Antisemitism is out of control at this University! If they don’t take this seriously it will only get worse and worse! All those arrested should be expelled and prosecuted.
How many floors are there? I lived there in 1977 and remember the top floor was older Male students (seniors and grad students)- the one under that for Women, similarly a bit more mature)… good times…
@@joanmdoughty8145 oh wow, that's very interesting! There are 13 floors - I know the top one is now the arts Learning Living Community! Correction - there are 12 floors, my bad!
Thank you!
i’m gonna be a sports management major, and want to be somewhat close to classes and socialization, what’s the best dorm
@@Matt-kh4yk it looks like most sports management classes are close to the Recreation and Wellness Center, so Pioneer or Frontier could be good options, as they're nearby and very social
I just quit the job because i was sent to MIddleBrook to work. As soon as I got there it was meyham. It was so bad I couldn't even put the 2-week notice in. I was not in the best financial shape to quit but I didn't care. I will choose life over death, every time. I've heard of people committing suicide after leaving a shift at Middlebrook. They need to place all the robots in place of the workers. I got hired 3 days later with only $1 less pay an hr!. God knows I'm a great worker.
Update - I've learned that Middlebrook has been renovated over the summer of 2024! It seems that only the dining hall has been notably changed, most of the other footage should still be very similar or exactly the same as how it is now, but it does sound like the dining hall has been upgraded.
A great video on an important topic!
Thank you very much, Sebastian!
i got bailey and i’m kinda introverted so maybe it’s a blessing in disguise ??
It totally could be! Bailey seems like a quieter dorm, and there's a really strong community there so it can be easier to make friends without having to go out as much!
@@maxapritchard update: i’m thriving 😭😭😭😭
Bruh I got into CFANS house on Bailey and i thought it would be great but now I'm seeing everybody hate on bailey :(
I do have quite a few friends who lived in Bailey freshman year, and they all seemed to have a pretty good experience! Because Bailey is relatively isolated, it seems like its residents form really strong bonds and make close connections (this is probably even more true for those in the LLCs!). The travel to east bank can be a bit difficult but really isn't that bad; while the biggest downside is probably feeling a little disconnected from the rest of campus, Bailey is perfect location-wise for CFANS classes and has a really strong community
thanks for this, I am an incoming freshmen this year and I was very curious about welcome week
Of course, I'm glad the video was helpful!
So as a UMN student I will have access to all public transportation for free with my umn card .. any exceptions? Thanks for the informative video !
You're welcome! And I don't believe there are any major exceptions! Students get "unlimited access to the regional transit system in the Twin Cities metro area," the only transit option that isn't free with the transit pass is the NorthStar train line, which goes from downtown Minneapolis to Big Lake and isn't used for transit within the Cities. The pass does cover $3.25 of that fare (which seems to cost no more than $6.25)
Amazing video! Bedside caddies are great for dorms! Especially if you use phone alarms! Jumping off a bunk bed in the dorm each morning to snooze an alarm can be tough! Masking tape is also great to have! Can’t hold up everything, but if you find your walls sweat too much for command strips (especially when it gets humid in September), the extra surface area tape provides is great!
Thank you!! And ooh thank you for the extra suggestions, those are great!
Holy crap you look older from the first U of M video.
It's a side effect of three years of strenuous academics! Or probably mostly the beard
Updates: - On Monday, 4/29, the Divest Coalition held another protest at 2pm outside of the Memorial Union. In response, the University issued a Safe-U alert and shut down several surrounding buildings. This action was explained as a way to protect students, and deprived protestors of access to restrooms, water, and warmth/shelter from the rain. - That evening, police issued two dispersal warnings from a distance, one at 7pm and the other at 9:15. Protestors held their ground, and the encampment stayed up overnight. - On Tuesday, 4/30, most of east bank was shut down for the entire day, keeping students from using study spaces during a dedicated study day. The encampment stayed up all day, despite heavy rains and two further dispersal warnings. - On Wednesday, 4/1, buildings around the mall were closed once again. Organizers met with University leadership at 10am. Leadership claimed that an agreement had been reached for the encampment to be taken down at 5pm, though organizers denied this. The encampment has stayed up. - On Thursday, 4/2, organizers came to an agreement with administration, and the encampment was taken down. The University promised full financial disclosure by May 7, presentation of a divestment resolution to the Board of Regents on May 10, biweekly meetings with administration until full divestment is achieved, and public support of Palestinian students.
I have an undecided major in liberal arts. I value being able to easily walk places. what do you recommend? thanks for this helpful info btw :)
Hello! So sorry for this very delayed response - Comstock is probably the best location for walkability, it's in a super central location. Sanford is great if you want to spend lots of time in Dinky, it's probably the closest dorm to food/grocery options. Superblock is also in a pretty ideal location if your classes will mostly be on east bank, which I believe they should be for most CLA majors
@@maxapritchard awesome! I just got an email a few days ago that I'll be in Comstock, so this works out perfectly. Also, please keep this video up! There's not much information online about the differences of dorms so I had to base a lot of my decision around what I got from this lol
@@saintmoIIy That's fantastic! Yeah, it's a shame how hard it can be to find info about this sort of stuff - I'll definitely have to work on some sort of expanded version or follow-up!
@@saintmoIIyhow are you liking Comstock?
Got a 1980s feel to it. Can't they afford renovations
Hi do you get a mini fridge or a microwave by the college?
Great question! Unfortunately, those aren't provided, so you have to bring your own. I believe there is a communal microwave on each floor of Middlebrook, though!
@@maxapritchard thanks 👍
Which one would you recommend for someone with a psychology major and a criminology minor? I do want to make friends too.
It looks like the intro psych and criminology courses are on west bank, so Middlebrook could be good for getting to those; however, you're likely to still have some classes on east bank, and Middlebrook can feel a bit isolated from most of the events on campus. It looks like a lot of the 3000 level psychology classes are on the north side of east bank, so Sanford could make sense! And Pioneer and Frontier are both good Superblock spots for socializing. For choosing a hall close to the classes you'll be taking, consider searching those classes in schedule builder and checking where they've usually been held! - schedulebuilder.umn.edu/

Awaiting for more of your videos bro! Thanks to you, now I attend UMN, make videos like a day of your life and stuff!
Thank you so much! I'm so glad to hear my videos had an impact - I had to take a break because of an overloaded schedule last semester but there should be plenty more videos in the next few months!
Which housing option would you say is best for making friends and community
That's a great question! I've heard Bailey is great for community-building within the dorm as it's so relatively isolated, although that makes it harder to connect with friends/community outside the St. Paul campus. Many of the floors at Middlebrook formed close-knit communities. Superblock is the best in terms of simply being around the largest number of students, and there are usually a lot of people socializing in the volleyball/basketball area between the buildings when the weather is nice; a lot of the socializing in Superblock does tend to be more partying-oriented than other halls, which could be a positive or negative depending on your preference. I've also heard that it's relatively easy to connect with people in Comstock, and its location makes it a good spot for easily accessing events and traveling to other dorms. That's all a pretty brief overview, feel free to ask any follow-up questions that come to mind!
Can you explain what semi-private bathroom means? In the video it looks private? Thanks!
Yes absolutely! Semi-private just refers to the fact that there's the gap in the wall dividing them, meaning you can be heard by whoever is in the adjacent bathroom, and vice-versa, but the bathrooms are essentially private and are single-occupancy
Thank you for the description. Kind of weird but I guess it’s still somewhat private. 🤣
I'm pretty sure the honors floors are 5, 6, and 7
There's also a pool table and an ice machine in the pool room.
hey Maxcan you please share one student group. would like to connect with students around the university
hello can you share a link for one group please. it would help in connecting with people around the university
Hello - absolutely, here's the link to the student group portal: twin-cities-umn.presence.io/organizations Here you can search based on your interests and field of study! I'm also happy to share recommendations based on what sort of groups you are interested in.
Do students have to bring toilet paper and cleaning supplies for the semi private bathrooms? Do students clean it or the staff?
That's a great question! Toilet paper is provided, and staff cleans the semi private bathrooms pretty regularly. The only thing you'll really have to worry about bringing, other than your toiletries, are paper towels or a hand towel.
i’ve watched all your videos! i’m an incoming freshman to the U and these resources have been invaluable :) tysm!
You're so welcome! I'm really glad to hear that these videos have been helpful - I hope you have a wonderful first semester at the U!
Thank you, this is so helpful! Do they provide trash cans in the dorms and if so, do you know what size they are?
I'm so glad this helped! Yes, they do provide trash cans - 11-13 gallon bags are recommended, according to UMN Housing. This youtube short I made briefly shows one - ruclips.net/user/shortsCAF8ON0CNSQ?feature=share
Loving your videossss!!!
Thank you!!!
Should we have all classes picked and schedules created prior to the two-day orientation (since day 2 of the orientation is when we are supposed to register with our advisor)?
You shouldn't need to have your classes and schedule picked, as your advisor will help you through that process! But it definitely doesn't hurt to explore class options before that meeting so that you can mention any that really interest you to your advisor
@@maxapritchard sounds good! Thank you! I’ll wait until orientation then :)
Super helpful video
Pretty much unchanged since I was there in 1975.
To add on to the Pros/Cons of honors section: I definitely recommend talking with your advisor about how the requirement load and opportunities offered will match up with your chosen academic path - honors might be more of a burden and workload for some majors than it is for others. Some of my friends and classmates have expressed frustration with the program while many really enjoy it. The majority of honors students stick with it, but ultimately the quality of the experience will vary between individuals!
I’m coming to Comstock to be in their Lavender House LLC, i heard the shower area was nice and the dining hall was decent
I've heard those things too! Their dining hall was one of my favorites, and Lavender House seems like a great community!
I'm pursuing MS in Electrical and Computer engineering (FALL23-24). Any recommendations 😅?
from my understanding, most engineering and csci classes are on east bank near the mall, so for proximity i'd recommend comstock or anything in superblock!
Wild Turkeys are the best part of the campus
Absolutely agree, they're so majestic
Fellow content creator over at the U of M. Can't wait to join you this year!
Please make more videos Max! I’m a junior from South Dakota and considering attending UMN! I’d love to know everything possible about UMN!
Thank you so much for commenting, Andrew - I'll have a lot of new videos up over the next few months!
What do you recommend for me? I’m going to be majoring in nursing and I’m from the east coast. I would like to only have one roommate preferably and want to be somewhat close to my classes
I would probably recommend Superblock if proximity to classes is a priority, as I believe most of the medical classes are closest to it, and I know that the STEM classes are almost entirely on or next to the mall on East Bank. They all have plenty of double rooms; I think Pioneer has the most three-person dorms, so if you're especially trying to avoid that then I'd rank Pio lower, while Centennial has lots of singles - I would probably recommend Frontier. Ultimately, though, when you register for classes you can rank double rooms highest, so it doesn't matter too much how many doubles the respective dorms have
Hey, Superb video man!! but pls. i need to connect with you, cause i have some questions about UMN, particularly housing...i am having a hard time with that....
