Beginner’s Guide To Linux (feat. Raspberry Pi)
Definitely turn off global illumination + shadows and your game will instantly run smoother ✅
I found the issue! I did some de-bloating and fps shot up to over 100! Will post an update soon
Nice one! Definitely makes me wanna get Linux fired up again
My experience is that PoE2 runs great on Linux. In fact, I don't think I've ever come across a game that doesn't run as well on Linux as on Windows lol
that few frames on a 3080 at 1080p is insane, is this a linux thing or are you doing something weird??
Was still tweaking some settings. Might try a different version of Proton also. I’m getting ~100fps now but still not very stable
I use DX11 on a 4600G onboard Vega 7 and I can play fine at locked 30 fps. (proton eggroll w/ fsr on debian) How are you getting such shitty performance with a 3080?
This is the command line I need to use to get the game playable for me (I have a dedicated card but it's worse than the onboard vega 7 (rx550) so it's only used as a multimonitor adapter) DRI_PRIME=1 DXVK_FILTER_DEVICE_NAME="RENOIR" WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR=1 WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR_MODE=performance gamemoderun %command% --nologo
Also, as mentioned by others, you need the game to be in dedicated (native) fullscreen (not windowed fullscreen) for proton's FSR to work.
OS: Debian GNU/Linux 12 (bookworm) x86_64 Kernel: 6.1.0-25-amd64 DE: Plasma WM: kwin CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 4600G with Radeon Graphics (12) @ 3.700GHz GPU: AMD ATI 0b:00.0 Renoir GPU: AMD ATI Radeon 540/540X/550/550X / RX 540X/550/550X Memory: 5575MiB / 13858MiB I'm on wayland aswell, not by choice... =/
Why are you running windowed fullscreen and not native fulscreen?
I tried both with no improvement. I think I figured it out. Will post an update soon
I dunno what's wrong with your setup, but I'm getting 100-120 fps at 1080p on a 2070 on linux (drops to slighly below 60 in endgame maps). Your 3080 should be able to completely crush my 2070. My CPU is somewhat overclocked though, and it feels like this game is very CPU bottlenecked. I'm also using the amd_pstate=active kernel parameter and setting my CPU scaling governor to performance, but I feel like a gaming focused distro like Nobara should set these by default :/. Maybe something's fucked with KDE, or kwin, I've had kwin's compositor just eat half of my framerate for no reason before, especially if the game "thinks" it's running in windowed mode. Have you tried alternating between X11 and Wayland? I do recommend turning on the "Dynamic Resolution" option in game while keeping your target framerate at 120. The dynamic resolution scaler works really with with DLAA/DLSS on my end and it doesn't look bad at all
I'm running PoE2 on Dx12 aswell and im getting well over 160fps in medium density maps and ~100fps in high density maps(breach). I've tested this on both Win11 and Nobara linux (kde) and both OS's run at about the same framerates. I'm running a 4070 Super and 5700X3D but I dont really see the game hitting the CPU until there's a high density of mobs on the screen. And like you said the Dynamic Resolution checkbox is almost required, since I crash without it checked when there's a high density of mobs
Bail on Nobara. Good for beginners but really limited and doesn't really make gaming better. CachyOS is my recommend. Beginner friendly but very optimized and well supported.
Hell nah, don't use CachyOS, Arch fricken sucks when it comes to reliability. Havent had any issues with Nobara
@@Gordoxgreycertified Arch hater in the building, I see. Cachy is notoriously stable.
@@NanomachineExE I've had exactly zero good experiences with anything Arch based. Debian I've had to tinker to get things working and Fedora I've needed to do next to nothing to get things working. Arch in general is notoriously unstable so i dont trust for a second that cachyos is stable enough to counter that.
On Steam Deck? Ehhhhh. On my Bazzite powered desktop: very well.
Vulkan is not an “open-source version of DirectX” its a completely different API, just like OpenGL or Metal from macOS, and has no relation to DirectX
Semantics brother, you know what he means
This bothered me as well but I think he is just trying to say they are both graphics APIs. The definitions he puts up in text during that point in the video does clarify a bit.
@ maybe
id like to clear some misunderstandings you may have, proton is used regardless because the game was not compiled to run on linux, what changes is whether you're using dxvk or not. youd expect vulkan to run better but the truth is vulkan in this game, regardless of driver or gpu manufacturer, has some very apparent issues, whether you're on linux or windows, from your test i noticed one thing that's fairly pleasant, that being that the game doesnt seem to run worse on linux or incur the same issues vulkan implementation has while using dxvk to translate to vulkan from dx. also something im not sure you're aware of, without dynamic res/culling enabled the target frame rate option does absolutely nothing. so it was kinda pointless to mention it. good job otherwise on this showcase!
My laptop died and the thought of Windows 11 on a new machine I'm not happy about. been wondering about this. Hadn't previously switched due to playing league with a friend but got him into poe2 and he hasn't looked back
fyi: you're running the game through proton on both dx12 and vulkan.
You’re right. That’s what I get for not reading from a script. 🔵 DirectX + Proton: Involves an extra translation step (DirectX → Vulkan) before reaching your GPU. 🔵 Vulkan + Proton: Bypasses that translation since the calls are already in Vulkan, leading to a more direct path and usually better performance.
@@DualWieldingDadif a game runs better on proton dxvk vs native vulkan then you konw that it's not as optimised as it should
No issues playing on stock Linux Mint: stable 120 FPS on vulkan with nvidia (driver 550.120)
What GPU?
PoE2 work better on Vulkan. Win or Linux -> more stable ... DX12 crash sometimes on Win11
Vulkan wouldnt even launch on my Win11 machine, and i've got it maxed out at 160fps the entire time on Dx12 at 3440x1440
@Gordoxgrey Update Nvidia drivers to newest build. VulkanRT 1.3 create less Game Crash. I Always Limit FPS to 60.
@@NetrunnerAT Hasnt made any difference to me mate, Vulkan just sucks on my Win11 for some reason. It's almost 2025, I'm not limiting my fps to 60 anymore, games should easily be able to reach above 120fps and PoE2 does
@Gordoxgrey my Screen cant Show more than 60fps 🤷🏻♂️ i can say Vulkan RT dont Crash Like DX12 in my machine. Also friends have less issue with VulkanRT with Nvidia Cards.
I get the switch. And it's very commendable. I have certs in Linux and so on. But I am getting 140-220fps in this game whether or not I have global illumination on. So I just can't switch to Linux not losing 50% fps.
What are your specs?
Bro i was searching for a video like this and got to know i have the same laptop. lmaooo what a coincidence
First, I want to say I'm so happy I found your channel! next what's your profession? You sound like you are a Linux Sys admin.
Wow what nvidia drivers do you use ? I couldn’t run PoE2 on nvidia-open with vulkan on. Only dx12 works (dxvk)
My Nvidia drivers are 565.77. Hope this helps!
i wish this was how the original game was like! This amazing mod puts the original version to shame!
I don't care for the art style. I think it mainly clashes with the backgrounds. But if that was what was in a comic I was looking at I would put it down. Game looks like it plays great.
I get it. People said the same thing about MvC2 with its 2D pixel art characters and 3D backgrounds
We totally need more WoW handheld gameplay like this, off-screen recording
Is a shower still needed if I installed EndeavourOS?
the best netcode ever are just moving into South Korea because of the best internet speed compared to the world
I'd vacation there just to experience their internet infrastructure
How to do gaming efficiently steps: 1) Buy a second NVMe 2) Install windows on it 3) Boot into that NVMe that has windows 4) Install game 5) Play game
And recall now knows your credit card number 😂
honestly anything wrong with linux, you just look up the fix and follow directions
🤝
MF talking like he the commander of NERV
Why didn’t it automatically install the wifi drivers?
Alternatively: 1. Buy a Steam Deck 2. Game
Too complicated. I panicked and bought 2 Windows11 machines instead.
is this 5 player game ?
The Switch version supports up to 6 players locally. There’s online multiplayer also
The shower step is uncalled for 😂
Critical step
Taking a shower is bloat. I've got more important things to do with my time, like watching pacman download. Besides, I haven't showered for 4 days and I don't smell a thing in the whole basement. Dude sounds like my mum when she brings me dinner.
Installing Windows 10 is the answer
i need help adding home server into my setup.Attached to the network I have main tower pc with dial monitor setup with no computing power and 2 headless machines to which i remote to via the Sunshine/Moonlight remote streaming on local network. Goal is to have a box or 2 that does network attached storage 24/7 and one that does virtualization for non HW accelerated tasks like downloading and scraping and fetching data from databases. I require No internet services. All is on local. I wan't to get rid of the tower pc. and replace it with single board computer with entry level laptop hardware. That means moving my 3x 12tb drives shared via SMB inside the windows. secondary I use 1 pc for local AI experiments and second one for Linux experience and running software like downloading utils and scrapers in Docker containers. From what I understand I don't need DNS service and Firewall if I keep my ISP router that has all that. So I will have network like this ISP Modem>via WAN port to Router/wifi combo>From router to swich and 2 acces points.>Switch has 8 ports, 3 are PC 2 are TV?
Is it your first day in IT? Users always lie or talk some bulshit. You just stop listening them and do your job. You brag about that HDMI case like it is something special. This is normal IT helpdesk struggle. Several times each day. Every day.
I don’t do general help desk for end users. I talk to IT professionals. The joke was his response, not the situation.
You can only select yes
I blame RUclips 😅

Wayland fixed in the same update
That’s amazing. I was using X because Wayland couldn’t share my screen at all
@DuelWieldingDad fair, I just swapped to X11 KDE when anyone wanted to call until now.
Wayland support?
Yep, I can finally daily drive Linux since I use hyprland.
I’ve been using X for this reason but I’m hearing Wayland support was added also. That’s huge too
fucking finally
My windows laptops dead, and i am on my android phone, its technically linux!
bruh
American cheese is technically cheese, that doesn't mean it tastes good
@@kittenzrulz correct!
@Luigi_bros4321 My point is Android is a Linux based OS but not a Linux distribution. For a Linux based OS to be a proper Distro it needs multiple of the following: GNU, a proper init system that supports extensions (SystemD, OpenRC, Runit, S6, etc), a package repository, a package manager, a terminal, support for packaging formats (apk, deb, RPM, etc), superuser (root) support (through a privilege escalation command such as sudo or doas), Flatpak support, and following some or all of the standards set out by the Linux foundation.
Shout out to my android homies

Now for rich presence support
I waited for 4 years! Finnaly
Started playing on Fedora 40, got around 60fps at 3440x1440p with my rx 6800. Updated to fedora 41 now I get less than 30 fps regardless of settings. . .probably a wayland thing, but Idk. Glad to see others playing on linux.
