I knew someone with OCD who painted his converter orange, etched his VIN all over the unit and eched the words "stolen" in 8 different areas. Thats in addition to using a cable system like the one shown in this vid.

My T harness has the normal male and female plugs but has 5 red plugs, not two like in the video. Are they extra?

Had a tailgate recall and the Honda dealership miss aligned the “throw” of the locking arm. The locking arm ways throwing -short- I had to go back in and realign the the throw Working perfectly now

Can you use it as manual lock if you dont hook up the power locking mechanism

Mine only worked for 2 years, then wouldn't lock. Took it apart and cleaned, lubricated and tightened it up and worked again but only for a month. I happened to be on a trip and needed it to lock. Wouldn't recommend it. One tacoma forum recommended the pl5500 instead which supposedly works better.

Installed like that, beyond the usual 2 pipe chops, I count you've added only 3 cable snips to take it. Then they can remove the cable entirely at their leisure at home. I'd be focusing a LOT more on making a lot more loops around the frame. Your own diagram at the beginning of the video shows making 7 loops around the frame. (1:02) It's no competition for a full cover plate, but I suppose this style does seems to be about the only way to offer a _universal_ deterrent that doesn't require some custom fab work.

Looks like the dumbest idea - you need to post a video of someone trying to cut it out, cause I don't see how that will slow anyone down.

4 comments after completing on G2/2018: 1st: Very helpful video, and routing to pillar works fine, saves time! 2nd: Do NOT bring wire up through hole he shows, as that's one of the holes the plastic parts lock to (to hold down the kickplate). Instead, cut/drill slits in the rubber plug 5-6" back, pull the wire up through that. 3rd: Green wire to red wire as he shows. Dark blue wire to thin-gauge yellow wire (24g?), NOT to heavier (18g?) yellow wire. That's not real clear in the video. 4: I found it easier to cut the tape holding the wire harness as it travels up the pillar than where he shows, but whichever is easier for you will work. Just tape back over the harness when done. Overall, big thanks for the video! Oh, PS make sure you get the PL8675 with keyed lock, not the 8600 with no lock. Toss the keys in the glove compartment, so if something malfunctions on the power lock you'll still have a way to get the tailgate unlocked...

Easy install and worked until the internal pin broke resulting in no way to get into my locked truck with a cover on the back. Reading the reviews on Amazon I see a LOT of people have had an issue with the plastic pin used in this lock failing. Complete waste of money!

BE CARFUL THIS COMPANY IS SCAMING THE PUBLIC BY SELLING A KIT THAT IS NOT PLUG AND PLAY. THE KIT WITHOUT THE T HARNESS REQUIRES SPLICING INTO THE TRUCKS WIRE HARNESS. THEY CHARGE AN ADDITIONAL $25.00 FOR THE WIRES TO MAKE IT TRULY PLUG AND PLAY. JUST ANOTHE MONEY GRAB BY A GREEDY COMPANY. I WAS GOING TO PUT THIS KIT IN MY DAD'S AND BROTHER'S TACOMA, NOT NOW !

The gasket from the old one doesn't line up with the new one and it's missing a bunch of plastic pins to secure the gasket. Also you can see daylight through the tailgate it doesn't fit perfectly. Not impressed with the quality.

Great instructional video, did it on my 2013 Taco and works great, handle could be better and ticker, feels so fragile but at least it works

This looks like a no brainer, quit DIY project. One question though, running the harness to the drivers side, will that lock/unlock the tailgate when unlocking the drivers' door with a single press or when doing a double press to unlock all doors?

Do I need an extension for tacoma long bed?

Very helpful video. One correction, on my 2022 Tacoma the wiring harness needs to be run to the passenger side, NOT the drivers side. I used the OEM Toyota kit. Works great!

I purchased this and cannot get it to work with my 21 3500 Ram. There is not enough room past the hinge to rotate the collar around. Is there a work around?

I know it’s mentioned in the title but will this work on a 21? Many tailgate locks I’ve been reading into are not compatible with 21 lol

@Pop & Lock LLC about 2 years ago i bout a pop and lock for my 2014 toyota tacoma, and i just found out that, the lock with the remote control even tho is lock you can still open it pulling on the lever twice. I need to know how can this issue get fix. Thank you @ Pop & Lock LLC
