this video is great, straight to the point and was exactly what I was looking for. saved around $600 bucks according to the toyota dealership. thank you
Very helpful video. One correction, on my 2022 Tacoma the wiring harness needs to be run to the passenger side, NOT the drivers side. I used the OEM Toyota kit. Works great!
Did you have to run it to the passenger side because you used the OEM kit? The Pop & Lock kit has been tested on the '22 Tacoma going to the driver side.
@@PopandLock Any chance you would ever offer a plug n play harness for the passenger side? Would be nice for it not to lock and unlock every time you get in the truck and only when you want it open. I havent installed mine yet but Im guessing the harness provided only works for the drivers side as you stated in the video?
@@sitka999 You are correct, the current model only plugs in at the driver side. We are considering a new harness that could potentially go to either side but we are probably a few months out from any change.
This looks like a no brainer, quit DIY project. One question though, running the harness to the drivers side, will that lock/unlock the tailgate when unlocking the drivers' door with a single press or when doing a double press to unlock all doors?
@@PopandLock Thanks, I think this would be a great option to consider. Other trucks I have owned had the tailgate unlock with the driver door and eventually they broke. To unlock on a double click will preserve the longevity. I've ordered mine from this current kit and can't wait to install! Thanks again!!
FYI - this was an easy install. It took a little over an hour for my son and me to install it. The harness & adapter makes it idiot-proof. We ran the cable to the rubber grommet underneath the driver's seat because it was easier to pull the cable underneath the carpet that way and run it to the driver's footwell box. This is a great mod and I can recommend it highly!
Yes. Isolate and disconnect negative battery cable. Instructions can be found here: vehiclesecurityinnovators.com/product/2016-2023-toyota-tacoma-power-lock-w-plug-play-t-harness/

Yes! The main difference is that the Tundra version routes to the passenger side. Here's a link to the product -->vehiclesecurityinnovators.com/product/2014-2021-toyota-tundra-power-lock-w-plug-play-t-harness/
Perfect instructional video ❤
Dealer wanted to charge me $400 for the part and $900 for installation. Took about 25 minutes and I was $130 all in. 🎉
Glad we were able to save you time and money. We appreciate your business!
Great video. I might have tested BEFORE putting everything back in place

Will this work on double cab long bed Tacoma?
@@nimam81 Yes it will!
My T harness has the normal male and female plugs but has 5 red plugs, not two like in the video. Are they extra?
Came to ask the same thing
@@KroniklyLate I ended up just plugging in what was there and it all works fine.

It will lock/unlock every time with the door locks. We are looking at a double click option but a few moths out from that.

@@hjnorris Thanks for the awesome review! Hope you guys enjoy it :)
does this prevent theifs from using a screw to bypass the latch ? or nobody has figured out how to stop that yet
Why not run the wiring to the tail lights instead of almost under the hood?
Because there's no electric lock wiring outside of the cab... 🧐
Is it required to disconnect the battery?
Yes. Isolate and disconnect negative battery cable. Instructions can be found here: vehiclesecurityinnovators.com/product/2016-2023-toyota-tacoma-power-lock-w-plug-play-t-harness/
I know it’s mentioned in the title but will this work on a 21? Many tailgate locks I’ve been reading into are not compatible with 21 lol
Yes! This Plug & Play will work for your 2021 Tacoma :)
Where can I order one ?
You can order it here: vehiclesecurityinnovators.com/product/2016-2023-toyota-tacoma-power-lock-w-plug-play-t-harness/ Thanks!
Will this work if I have an after market keyless entry? Like n2 system?
Yes! Our system ties into the power door lock system so this should not be an issue.
@@PopandLock thank you! I’ll be ordering mine soon!

Do I need an extension for tacoma long bed?
Nope! It will fit the long bed.
This the same for 2005?
No, unfortunately not :( PL8521 or PL5400 would be the 2 options you can look at.
