  • STOP CATALYTIC CONVERTER THEFT with The CAT-RAP! The CAT-RAP is a universal theft deterrent designed to protect catalytic converters on a variety of vehicles including Cars, Trucks, SUV's, Vans, RV's and Buses.
Easy to install but difficult and frustrating to defeat. This patent pending design utilizes two stainless steel plates that when compressed create up to 20 individual security loops on and around your converter and vehicle frame. The steel plate cover adds another layer of protection encouraging thieves to stay away. Simple yet effective with all stainless-steel components to withstand the harshest vehicle environments. Visit www.CAT-RAP.com for more information.

I knew someone with OCD who painted his converter orange, etched his VIN all over the unit and eched the words "stolen" in 8 different areas. Thats in addition to using a cable system like the one shown in this vid.

Installed like that, beyond the usual 2 pipe chops, I count you've added only 3 cable snips to take it.
Then they can remove the cable entirely at their leisure at home.
I'd be focusing a LOT more on making a lot more loops around the frame. Your own diagram at the beginning of the video shows making 7 loops around the frame. (1:02)
It's no competition for a full cover plate, but I suppose this style does seems to be about the only way to offer a _universal_ deterrent that doesn't require some custom fab work.

Looks like the dumbest idea - you need to post a video of someone trying to cut it out, cause I don't see how that will slow anyone down.

Theres a RUclips vid of a guy with a portable grinder who defeated this cable clamp deterrent in 2 minutes. He had a much harder time with a sawzaw. He did make lots of noise however while cutting. Its supposed to be a deterrent that forces thieves to target an unprotected car.
