    I just bought a LLL 8-element in a collapsible mount. Basically v1 35mm Summicron glass, with a unique - first and only, in house designed - compact collapsible LTM/L39 mount 35mm f2 lens. Yes, there is the ‘CHINA’ engraving at the front lens information, and a ‘Made in China’ in Chinese script on the mount base, the same as Leitz did with their ‘Germany’ country of origin. It is very well made, brass and beautiful chrome, smooth focus and aperture adjustment, and looks very cool on my 1940 Barnack camera - right at home in style and still a classic optical quality, without the vintage age problems or collectors cost. I can image what could be done with a ‘clone/reproduction’ vintage Leica camera, and it could be very interesting - but of course no ‘Leica’ top plate engravings.

      @@LIGHTHUNTER.D In some way I was surprised and not surprised with the LLL release of the ELCAN. The original from what I heard at the time (early 1970s) was made for the US Military as a ‘budget’ alternative to the better optics of the v3 Summicron. More compact and simpler for field repair. The ELCAN was very limited production and not offered to the public. So, LLL saw an opportunity to offer the build and optics of an unusual collector’s lens. The LLL 8-element is their ‘bread-and-butter,’ on its 8th 1000 production run. It is a good selling lens, well made and the optical quality matches the original v1 almost perfectly (I’ve not seen any LLL ELCAN to the original comparison). Until the special Lanthanum-lead glass is finished they may keep making it. LLL stopped production of their ELCAN (maybe lack of sale demand), but started again with a platinum version. Coming from a long time Leica user I’m very happy to see these lenses being made again, with quality, and at affordable prices (well, at least compared to the prices of the originals ;-).

    The whole issue with this camera, is it is a toy and not a toy! It looks to be a tik toker camera but is better than that under the hood, but doesn't quite get there. As a person coming from another system to buy into open gate and anamorphic lenses, it has a number of problems. You need an adapter, these are not penny's and pushes the price up (also these adapters don't work with AF that well). It also does not do any 50/60 fps in any compression in the open gate. This really cripples the camera for me. It is almost there, but falls short. Yes you can go, I will live with it, but I already have cameras that do all the thing in this camera better. I want to love it, but just can't!!!!!

    I doubt it is more profitable to forego X100 sales now, planning to raise prices later and defer those sales. This is because they would have to raise prices enough to cover inflation and the reduced pull through of sales due to dissatisfaction with the brand over wait time and higher prices. Like I have not done the math but this is not how corporations work they seek maximal profit now. If their plan is to raise prices to some level then I think they will just do it without an underlying conspiracy. I think they are losing money by not meeting demand and they must know that.

    • @LIGHTHUNTER.D
      @LIGHTHUNTER.D Месяц назад

      Fulfilling demand has nothing to do with margins. Even with X100V shortages, their numbers have only improved pretty much steadily since 2021. Their reports are public for people to look at. Some of the jumps are astronomical. Strict “we need to make a bunch to sell a bunch” economics hasn’t been the case for a good century now.

    • @korteksvisceralzen2694
      @korteksvisceralzen2694 Месяц назад

      @@LIGHTHUNTER.D Well selling more equals more profit at any margin and when folks can't get what they want there is some likelyhood that will be a lost sale, which is zero margin. I have not looked at their fincials but not surprised there is a big jump with all the x100 demand. I just think it is pure speculation to say it's a production/pricing conspiracy.

    X-M5 is their real entry-level camera candidate after not having one for a while now, essentially replacing the X-A lines of cameras that is seemingly forgotten in the western world but is decently popular in Asia and other 3rd World countries. The likes of X-S20 or X-T50 are still out of most people's reach here. According to the rumors it'll have cheap build quality, so I won't expect X-M1 level of sturdiness. To be fair, there's a reason why X-M1 flopped and gets replaced by the significantly cheaper and more successful X-A1; people don't really look nor care for expensive and rare magnesium alloy in their entry-level camera.

    • @LIGHTHUNTER.D
      @LIGHTHUNTER.D Месяц назад

      Yeah I don’t fully disagree. While build might not be super important to people, there’s no reason to go with a cheap plasticky feel as a brand in general anymore.

    I think the Zenit looks incredible. Went to check it out and saw they dropped $1k off the price tag and is still available. I dont expect this to be in production for long, so it might be something worth considering. You have always been able to get a Lecia, but when was the last time you saw a new Zenit? I thought they went under like 20 years ago. Good to see that they're not only coming back, but pairing with the biggest name in the business to debut their return. I know you arent a fan of the collab, but I get why they're doing it. If I remember, Zenit still holds the world record on most SLRs produced, but they need a little more public confidence after their hiatus, hence the pairing with Lecia.

    Is the Z7's thinner sensor stack working well with the M-mount glass? The other day, I was using my Voigtlander 35mm f/2.5 adapted to an L-mount body and was getting some serious green color cast in the corners. I had never considered the Nikon till you mentioned it in another video.

      Yeah it’s been solid as far as I can see. Not sure how much it varies lens to lens without doing a bunch of tests, versus other systems, etc. to see firsthand, but that was one of the main reasons I didn’t go Sony after the switch. And I’m not spending SL money haha. Combined with the TZM-02 now, whatever I can adapt to M becomes way more useful. The Pearl River 58mm used in this is a Minolta mount lens

    Its inevitable that this will happen sometime soon. It'll be am M mount, maybe even a film camera before a digital one is produced. Things are going to get interesting!

      I certainly hope so! Leica gets to keep their purist experience, and we arguably get the best of all worlds.

    Interesting. I hadn't heard of this one! Ive got the TT 90/1.2 and 50/0.95 which are both great, particularly as they're so affordable compared to big brand offerings.

      That’s some serious glass right there too! Kind of hoping they, or another OEM, make a 90mm f2 soon.

    MFT also makes perfect sense for street, family and everyday fotography. My 14mm(28) and 15mm(30) can almost be hidden inside my hand. With my OM-5 it's tiny compared to my old Nikon gear (both FF and aps-c). And it cost a fraction of Ricoh or Fuji cameras and i can change my lens when needed. The stabilization is amaaazing. I would even go so far as to pay a premium to avoid carrying a FF body and the Bazooka lenses that is requires when out and about with my playing children. And i only payed like $900 for a used Om5 with a 15mm Leica lens included. When my kids are playing outside the IQ is basically the same as it was with my old FF gear. (i am no dof fiend, so thats not a big factor)

    I have the S9 and it was fun to play with. But now that I am home, I find myself just grabbing my S5 II instead over and over for the EVF and better handling. They sent the wrong group of creators out to Japan IMO

      Yeah the II/IIX make infinitely more sense and are solid cameras. Even an A7C tier EVF and hotshoe would’ve gone a long way

    I don't do video...A used pair of Sony A7c bodies along with an even older A7s handle most things photographic for me now ....( I am an American retired in Bangkok). I gave up on both Panasonic and Olympus M43 since they seem to refuse to continue their 'rangefinder" style GX9 and Pen F bodies....Cheers

      A new Pen F would be great if they actually update the internals and sensor
