Good review. Very fair points. I'm a current FP owner. I agree whole-heartedly about the accessory options. It would have been nice to see Sigma continue to develop new modular attachments. At this point, it seems Sigma, and most 3rd party manufacturers, have largely given up on new accessories for the camera.
Yoooo Luke Taylor. Appreciate your content and surprised to see you haha. Yeah I’m nostalgic for it sometimes too, built in color profiles were amazing. DPL basically picked up all the slack for them when it comes to accessories and that has its limits unfortunately. Like a rangefinder style EVF would sell gangbusters. I would hope that a new model or the fabled Foveon version could reinvigorate their development and third party development. Unfortunately, Sigma lost me with their service more than anything ultimately.
I'm hoping Sigma will come out with a 'fp M' - a monochrome 61mp sensor with no Bayer array and no low-pass filter. I have a couple fp's and love them. L-mount is easy to adapt, and I do that with Pentax film-era 645-A lenses. I do mostly stills. I tried the EVF-11, but despite the bulk I really like the immersive experience of the LVF-11. A flippy screen would be great. -Tom
The fp color is already so great, it would be hard to achieve much higher with monochrome IMO. Maybe a full frame Foveon version would be something if they can sort out the ISO limitations. Starting to think they might abandon that road though for financial reasons
@@LIGHTHUNTER.D Agreed, but I think we're dreaming about the full-frame Foveon anytime soon, given the interview statements from Yamaki-san. He also is talking about new lenses for medium-format, and Sony has just revealed a 247mp medium-format sensor (color and monochrome) - though whether those sensors will find their way into a camera is your guess or mine. I also have a Sigma DP2M that I use for monochrome, and the fp also does a very good job with that. But, an 'fp M' might be a good intermediate offering until the new full-frame Foveon appears, re-using much of the fp tech. Just my $0.02. -Tom
I do actually! Had the dp2 Quattro previously as well. Amazing quality, looks cool, but essentially unusable beyond like 400 ISO even (and probably using black and white at that point). Workable and unique if you know what you’re getting into.
As a Sigma fp owner I understand you perfectly well. But I love the camera, and I really wouldn't bother with a Sony. Yes, the range of lenses, the af… but they're clinical. So Panasonic is my choice for all the fp can't do. Also clinical. But at least an underdog. Maybe it's totally moronic to see it like that, but in the field of creativity, creation and gear addiction combined, logic is not the big player 🤣
@@JerryLass Sony is definitely a strictly utilitarian option. Sigma fp still has a place in my heart, but I wish Sigma dealt with the repair issue better than they did. L mount keeps getting better! LUMIX refresh will likely be interesting, the SL3 though 😬
@@JerryLass the IIx was a fantastic hybrid option when I had it. Just realized I’m not that focused on video (and the leaving L mount stuff). I’m guessing the S1 refresh might be inline with what you’re looking for
Hm. Thought I was pretty fair considering I had it for years. Great color and images when you can actually nail focus. Too many trade offs compared to what’s available, and abysmal service from Sigma.
@@LIGHTHUNTER.D , If you had used fp, you would not have come up with an image like the one in this video. Sorry if I upset you. I have a couple of them and no alternative has appeared for most tasks. I’m talking primarily about video shooting, although I constantly take photographs with them. There were no problems with quality, the service consulted remotely a couple of times, everything was perfect. It's Russia. I use Nikon for sports photography.
@@UriRayeah this was on my phone after selling it haha. Doesn’t upset me, I’m primarily a photographer. They’re great cinema cameras for the price. Gudzon specifically has done amazing work with them. We seem to disagree based on use case if anything.
@@LIGHTHUNTER.D , Great movie cameras no matter the price. fp was used by Spielberg’s team, and they are not very limited in budget..., it’s generally difficult for me to imagine what fp won’t shoot, it’s much easier to say what Arri can’t) Photography was not the main thing for me, but in fact, everything except sports - FP, a lot of studio shooting with constant light, fortunately it is now simple and cheap.

@NWPipeSmoker for sure. I think we’ll find out this year about Foveon. Hopefully anyways 🙏
speaking of sigma do you have any experience with foveon

Sad to hear a selection of stereotypical opinions about fp....
