    Got the S9 about a week and some change ago.. Been absolutely loving it, and getting great results out of it. Aside from that, it's been super FUN to shoot. And you're right, the Lumix Lab app lends itself to the "fun" I'm talking about. Not only is that a game-changer that EVERY major camera company will copy, but it has been a WORKFLOW changer, for me...personally. I haven't edited a photo in weeks.

      I’m all for others copying it! Nikon arguably already did with the Imaging Cloud setup they announced, but unfortunately it’s only for new releases currently. And despite me criticizing it pretty hard, I’m glad you’re enjoying it. There are a ton of great tools out there for different people, I just don’t want to see them get more expensive and prohibitive.

    Great call talking about how there is probably a "agreement" amongst the L mount manufacturers to protect the Leica Q by not releasing a 28mm prime, which sucks as that's my favourite focal length and having recently got a S5ii having to "settle" with the 35mm f1.8 is depressing. The whole issue with this camera, is it is a toy and not a toy! It looks to be a tik toker camera but is better than that under the hood, but doesn't quite get there. As a person coming from another system to buy into open gate and anamorphic lenses, it has a number of problems. You need an adapter, these are not penny's and pushes the price up (also these adapters don't work with AF that well). It also does not do any 50/60 fps in any compression in the open gate. This really cripples the camera for me. It is almost there, but falls short. Yes you can go, I will live with it, but I already have cameras that do all the thing in this camera better. For video it is more of a competitor, but it doesn't do 50/60fps in open gate for anamorphics or 4K, which will be my main use case.
      Then there is the price, the kit lenses are rubbish, and adapters are not cheap, which then pushes your outlay up, instead of a rubbish lens they should of included an adapter. Then the price for non Lumix uses becomes a bit more attractive 😜. Then there is the slow old sensor, this is not such an issue, but the price....... Its an odd thing to bring up on the loss of optical viewfinders, a mirrorless camera cant have an optical viewfinder! It has no mirror and to be honest, the EVF was one of the best things to happen to a camera in recent years.
    The S9 is an interesting camera, but so far all the videos I have watched criticized it from the point of view of what they wanted the next lumix camera to be. Its not that camera!! Its aimed at those who have been using a phone, those that wanted an X100Vi, but may consider this camera because it has the real time LUTS. I agree with you on this, I'd love the LUT features in my S5iix, because sometimes I dont colour grade footage, I shoot sooc video and just adjust for any exposure or wb issues, when i'm in a hurry.
    However I digress, the G9 is for these folks, the ones that will love to get a look from camera, the ones that use devices with an electronic shutter already, their mobile phone. They will like the flippy selfie touch screen, they care not for an evf and would not understand rolling shutter if it jumped out to bite them on the bum!
    This camera is ideal for them and if it sells big, great, because that means we may get a compact model that is more suited to us, i'd love a mini S5iiX, something lighter.
    Heck, i'd consider the S9 as I can stick it in a backpack for hiking and motorcycling. Its so light, especially with that 18-40mm lens.
    But its not for us camera nerds, and we need to accept that companies can make a product for other users! This is what so many of these reactions seem to miss.
    Sure, its missing a viewfinder, an mechanical shutter, and there are recording limits? If thats an issue, get an S5II or S5iiX, its that simple!
    Cameras are coming back in a big way, but as fun toys for those that can throw £1500 at them. We should embrace this as it means more cash to invest in cameras that we professionals and enthusiasts desire.
    I agree with you though, that Lumix should not try to influence reviews, Insta360 got caught doing this.
    So, my question to you, if you look at this camera as something for a none technical person who just wants something better than their phone, why would they not go for this? The fact the Sony has a shutter is not relevant, remember the buyers here are likely none technical.
    That 26mm lens, it is focused to infinity as I understand it, the idea behind it is to point an shoot, but have a very compact package. Just like a phone. I would, however, have thought that a 26mm pancake with AF would have been better. TTArtisans 27mm F2,8 lens on fuji is tiny, but manages to have AF

    • @LIGHTHUNTER.D
      @LIGHTHUNTER.D  6 месяцев назад

      So couple things.
      EVFs are good, and while it’s not easy to have OVFs because of not having a mirror, it is actually possible.
      The X100 and X-Pro series have the best of both worlds. Not every camera is going to have that design, but certainly rangefinder style bodies could have more options that do have that. I would argue the HVF has sublated the previous options.
      Probably the most alarming aspect of the S9, is that they’re calling this their new entry level. With less than barebones features. Likely in an attempt to charge more on the new mid and high level options.
      I wouldn’t recommend new photographers get this for a similar reason I wouldn’t suggest an X100 as their one and only camera. They will end up missing out on things that could impact their experience in a way that pushes them away from the hobby. I see a lot of disappointed people trying to offload impulse X100s for this reason (assuming that’s all legitimate).
      Someone getting a small body like this with all its compromises will likely disappoint them, and they can get so much more out of the S5,II, and IIX.
      And for the lens, yeah there are a plethora of options that prove it was unnecessary to make that compromise.

    • @NatsWright
      @NatsWright 6 месяцев назад

      @@LIGHTHUNTER.D But if you look into camera history, the rangefinder was replaced by the SLR camera and for good reason. With an SLR you could see what the camera could because of the mirror. While you could add a rangefinder style viewfinder, as the X Pro series have, they do not see the actual shot you have framed, because lenses zoom. Sure a rangefinder works on a fixed focal length camera like the X100 series, but thats because its a 23mm lens that the optical viewfinder is tuned to.
      So to answer your question, no, you cannot give a mirrorless camera a rangefinder type optical viewfinder, without it being as much use as a chocolate fireguard.
      While at £1500 the S9 is not cheap, look how much all entry level models are these days? Sony, Fuji, all the new APS-C models are approaching £1400-£1500 too.
      Sure the S9 has compromises, the digital shutter did seem an odd choice, but to fit a mechanical one, its claimed that it would have added bulk and weight.
      Ignore the camera if its not for you. Maybe Lumix will release and S9Pro, with the missing bits. Maybe slightly bigger, with better cooling, 3.6million dot EVF, Prores internal, and a mechanical shutter, for £1900. Basically a compact S6iiX

      @@NatsWright you’re telling me things I explained in this same video haha. I know the history, and those aren’t technically real rangefinders either.
      It’s not a question either, you can 100% give a mirrorless camera an OVF. The bodies I mentioned have that included in their HVF.
      APS-C bodies are getting overpriced too. The whole market is (did a whole video about MFT), which I’ve been critiquing. And will continue to, along with the S9.

It's very hard to add that to a rangefinder body and why dslr cameras have their classic shape, for the mirror and prisum. I strongly disagree on this point, mirrorless cameras were a natural evolution from a DSLR. Note that prior to mirrorless, there were upgraded DSLR cameras, budget was pentamirror, better was pentaprisum. The higher offerings had more AF points too, another limitation of the design that mirrorless are better at. You are essentially criticizing progress in camera tech!!

      And technically, you can slap an OVF on anything it just won’t be parallax corrected.
