The General Sam Houston - Six Flags and Texas Railroad
This song has remained in my memory since I was a kid. It's cool to get to really hear it again. Thanks for sharing it.
You're most welcome. I kniw every time I heard it, I knew it was going to be a good day!
I just recently retired from the Union Pacific Railroad Shop in Fort Worth and I really love your video...thank you for sharing, now I really miss the railroad again!
I'm glad you liked it. You can always come join us!
Shithole
Very interesting!
Rode this as a kid years ago, good memories, thank you. God bless. Jesus loves you!
A day on the railroad, but no mid-trip relight to wake the neighbors? Those were my favorite… It’s been a few years since I worked with y’all. Good to see some of you are still around over there. I hope ol’ Red’s running well since she’s not in the video, unless Kirby broke her. Miss y’all. -R
Red is the only one out at the moment. Sam is going through some major refurbishments
Sounds a LOT like sierra #3 whistle
This one would sound so much better if they'd back that shield off of the back a bit to allow all 5 chimes to sing out loud.
I miss this engine running I love the red engine but my favorite one is the green one though
we got a 2-4-2 tender engine oil fired
Great video! It's amazing to see those old locos running well and looking great after more than a century
I remember riding that train as a child. I'm happy to see it's still rolling.
texas rangers stadium 1 from 1972 - 1993 for 22 seasons. texas rangers stadium 2 from 1994 - 2019 for 26 seasons. texas rangers stadium 3 from 2020 - present.
Where did you find the audio at?
A friend took a tape recorder with her in the park and just randomly recorded stuff. This was 1975 I think.
Is their an audio of the full ride?
@@GiantSquid2319 No. That was just the scene at the station. That song played over and over and over and over.........
1:39 fiesta train
texas rangers has 3 stadiums in arlington tx in the dallas fort worth area.
They've had three. One still being used, the other has been converted for the UFL and the 1st one is gone
That is clearly a reflection of a candelabra. You can see the general shape too.
Yes....The lights you see reflecting are in fact a sconce hanging on the wall. There was one to my left and one to my right. But look to the right of the sconce reflection and you'll see something taking shape.
Great video. I grew up about a mile south of town. My mom is still there and my brother is CPL Thomas Hilbert. I moved away in 2007.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I was very happy and proud to feature your brother's memorial in downtown. I make it a point to highlight those whenever I can. Thank you for watching.
Hey Cliff! Former SF&T engineer brethren here, 96-99. Now a line haul truck driver moving double pups to and fro. Started there as a conductor as did my wife of 25 years. Currently injured nursing a broken wrist. Thank you and the rest of the crew for this. It did my heart good. Not a day goes by that I don’t think of my first loves Mary Ann and Lydia P. I am so amazed at how things have changed but also stayed the same. I laughed so hard when seeing the rail being greased. I thought "they will be a dropping sand later on the inside rail." Then the wheel slip in the same places followed by sand being dropped on the inside rail. I got a face full of sand by an inexperienced engineer one time during a similar sand out as in this video. They did a great job! Also loved seeing my Lydia (CJP) having her cameo at the end. Again- Thank You and enjoy it every day! PS- I got to work Goodtimes Depot, make full loops while they built Boomtown Depot and was one of the ride supervisors" there when Boomtown opened 😊
I'm really glad you enjoyed this. I started as conductor originally back in 1980 and moved up to fireman. Moved to the river for the 82 (last) season. Came back I'm 2014 and am still having a ball. If you haven't already, be sure to check out all the other videos on the channel. Lydia has her own show on one.
Been in Dallas And Lindale for a time Mineola's looking good to me, Lets hope Mineola don't go like Lindale
"promo sm" 🌟
I lived in Sanger 87-89 , the town itself was bad , just the woman I was married to was bad.
You mean the town wasn't bad? 🙂
@@DustyWingsProductions My fat fingers have no excuse. Sanger was not bad, ex wife was.
So did you ride?
Yes. Yes I did. Manged to get in on the virtual queue twice. It's an amazing coaster.
@@DustyWingsProductions That is awesome . I only want to go there for the Train and this ride
While here and up in Winnsboro, you'll hear plenty of "No, she didn't have a sister named 'Ura'." We've spent a lot of time in Mineola down in the historic district, and I just passed through recently, reminded that it's about time for me to spend a little more time at the nature preserve. I think after a hike it'll be time for a trip to CowBurners or the East Texas Burger Co. Extra points for covering the Spiders. Didn't even know about that until I stopped for the historical marker some years ago.
Thank you!
I lived in Venus until I was close to 6 years old. We had to move out of our house because it was haunted as shit and we lived on cursed native lands. Even with all the scary shit I went through there, I love Venus - there’s something special about the night sky there.
Would really love to visit your old house!
When it starts at old town thats venus
Would have loved to have seen it when it was all new and thriving. I'll bet things will turn around there as LOTS of people are moving there. New complete neighborhoods and apartment complexes are popping up.
@DustyWingsProductions yea it's growing, new housing going up several places around outskirts...
Wish the ga six flags was still steam
We really feel special to still have ours. I think it's just Tx and SL that still run steam.
1 the owners wont alow it 2 even if they did I doubt six flags would be able to get a moter in the tender anyway
Brings back a lot of memories!!
Ok i didn't know they had that i need to go now
We also have an 1897 H.K. Porter!
Just curious why the metal plate on the back of the whistle? It’s covering up the back chimes
The whistles are right in front of the engineer's faces with no windows in the front of the cabs. It's to keep the water/steam out of our faces. I've come up with some ideas to back that plate up a bit and let all five chimes sing proud.... but they haven't done anything with it yet. But I'm hopeful
@@DustyWingsProductions The shield could be set out a bit more and still prevent the distribution of steam and hot water toward the engine crew.
@@royreynolds108 Yep! And I've been trying to get them to do that very thing!
We want to move there
I remember when it was "Turnpike Stadium", home of the Dallas/Ft. Worth Spurs.
I also attended many a Spurs game there.
@@DustyWingsProductions It was a state of the art minor league ballpark in the 60's. Built with expansion for a hoped for MLB franchise in mind.
Man this takes e back. In the late 80s my best friend and I would drive from Flower Mound to Arlington while listening to the game on the radio and then we'd park in the parking lot for free and continue listening until the middle of the 5th inning in the car. At that point, they would open up the outfield for free and we'd go watch the 2nd half of the game for FREE!. We saw Nolan almost pitch his 8th no hitter, he took it into the late 8th inning. Such precious memories. Enjoy life while you're here, soak it in, cuz it goes fast!
I grew up going to games there, and even as a kid, I knew it was a horrible stadium, for fans and players, alike. But, aside from my childhood memories the few milestone events there, its only real claim to fame came in the movie, Bull Durham. Can you name the scene?
That one event wasn't the stadium's only claim to fame. But it ranks up there for sure.
I have the Section 413 sign (upper deck behind home plate). It's still in pristine condition.
I could always see it in my mind. But this video is such a treasure. Thank you!!!
You are so welcome!
Cliff you know ceder point also has a hk porter steam engine on there railroad they have 4 or 5 steam engines I think all built for different services
I have heard that
I dont remember what there hk porter engine was built for though but I think theres is slightly newer then the over texas one
@@gradymcclintock6160 The oldest Porter engine at Cedar Point was a 2-6-0 sugar plantation engine with only link-n-pin couplers, no air brakes, and also asbestos insulation unless that has been removed. It survived because it was a replacement for a beautiful little 4-4-0 someone had bought from a plantation and had been scrapped without permission.
I alway wondered how hot the cab gets in there
In 1980 ot got as high as 130 or so. You can generally say it's about 15°‐ 20° hotter in the cab than thr ambient temperature
@@DustyWingsProductions In the cab of No 7 on the J&CB, the thermometer in the cab could easily hit 140* F. She burned propane, and the cab was steel.
@@royreynolds108 I've seen the General get up to 135 in the heat wave of 1980. It usually stays around 120 during the hottest months.
I grew up going to this track
I wonder what Arlington Stadium would look like if they installed a roof?
Would have been interesting for sure
What a FANTASTIC video! Thank you Cliff for all of your hard work on this! And thank you for all that you do for the SF&TRR!
Glad you enjoyed it! It is a labor of love for sure.
Another great video!
..... Said one if the featured people. But really, thank you.
It would be cool to see Kings Island do something like this
I'd do it for 'em if they wanted.
There would be no SF without the train, thank you for this video.
You are most welcome!
Nice work. Glad to see you guys seem to have survived the heat this year.
Thanks! It got to a couple of us here and there.... but we did come out on the good side
Mike, remember me at the Jefferson & Cypress Bayou RR in Jefferson, TX. I was there off and on until 1/92.
@@royreynolds108 That's a serious way back memory, Roy. Hope you're doing well!
Amazing job, Cliff. I miss working with you guys on the train so much.
Miss you being here
How can I do what you did
What is it that I did that you want to do?
@@DustyWingsProductionsgo inside the steam shop, and gets behind the scenes
@@Texasrailfan89 Well... it helps that I'm an engineer there. That's me that takes over for Johnny there at 19:20
@@DustyWingsProductions so is there no other way I can take a vip tour behind the scenes
@@Texasrailfan89 As of right now, not that I know of unless you're part of some special group event. But that's it.
Great Video Cliff, THANK YOU.
You are welcome!
SFOT should use this as a training video. haha TRAINing
Cliff...this video was AWESOME!! A very interesting and informative video that can not only teach people who are not familiar with what all goes on in the background, but it's a great instructional video for people who are "train savey" as well . All I can say is EXCELLENT 😀!!
Thank you very much!
How can I do this
