One thing I really notice is how much prettier the park used to be. Lots of landscaping where now it's looks very industrial and bare. Thanks for putting this together!
Enjoyed watching this. Took me way back when I first visited six flags in 1973. As a kid , that place filled me with awe and wonder. The spelunker cave, flying Sombrero, log flume, the volcano, and mexican villa, mine train, mini mine train and the spinnaker. After 1983 six flags became so commercialized I didn't enjoy going anymore. Last time I went to six flags was in 2005. Have not been back since.
It's sad how the corporations have ruined what Six Flags orignially was. Angus Wynne would be rolling over in his grave if he saw Six Flags today.

Six Flags (TX) was my stomping grounds during the summers of 79-89.
Great memories. Thankful I got to enjoy the park before time and population density sort of diluted its charms.
Had the opportunity tag along with a family on one of the days the park was rented out by a large corp. This kept the park population down to even lower levels than it was back when I was kid... I was a kid in a candy store. Got to relive some great memories.

Love this so much! I started going to SFOT in the 70’s and worked at the Sid & Marty Krofft Puppet Theater in ‘73 & ‘74. Very few people remember it but I also worked in the entertainment department at the Seven Seas Sea Life Park that was next door in ‘72. What great memories!

Nothing stays the same. Lost some, gain some. I just wish the Six Flags Co would invest more for upkeep in the flagship park. Show some pride.
Really great video. This was my park back in the 70's and 80's. Anyone remember the Red Baron kids ride? Or Roto Disco?
The Red Baron right outside The Cave and the spot once occupied by The Flying Jenny. The Roto Disco... A "Himalayan" ride that was originally called "Cyrus Cosmo's Rotoriculous" and was one of the best places to work on a hot summer day.
Not one single thing is as good as it once was. Sad.
Anyone go to the all night parties back in the 80's? Those were a blast!
I did at Astroworld in Houston. Those were the days.
My mom told me that the Oil Derrick tower used to actually be open for visitors and it even had a slide attached to it for people to slide down to the ground.
It still is open when weather permits. The slide came down from the east side of the tower from the 50' level and had about 8 slides. It was fast and some kids tended to go airborne sometimes. One of the reasons it was removed.
Amazing how much can change in just 2 generations and how much people enjoyed the people factor back then. Didn't need big rides as wow factor. Thanks much for putting this video together and sharing with world.
I knew there used to be a covered walkway! I asked someone who worked there if they knew where it was and they said it was never there! Sweet Vindication!!!
Yes Sir! There were actually two of them. One was in between Happy Motoring I (GT Cars) and the Astrolift. It was covered in wisteria and was even air conditioned. The other ran along the top of the hill overlooking the riverboat dock. There was a rock wall along the ledge.

Thanks guys for doing such a great job on the video’ I can remember when The Run Away Mine Train was the big ride and was the only coaster in the whole park but it didn’t disappoint! What a blast! Later the added quite a few more extremes type of rides ie: The Shock Wave..Judge Roy Scream..The Texas Shootout..The Spinaker..which all were added around the same time. Then of course more good ones followed with The Conquistador..The Cliff Hanger..Splashwater Falls
Then came a few more with Flashback..Batman..Runaway Mountain..Mr Freeze..The Flume Ride thing that I’ve always thought was useless! Sry but was never impressed by it!
lots of long forgotten rides and attractions also..ie..La Salle’s River Boat Ride.. Spelunkers cave…The Spindle Top (floor dropped!)..
The Cable Trolly thing..the Carpet Slide (from the orange tower).. Skull Island with the barrel bridges.. The Tree Slide..The Canoes..etc,
Ahhh yeah! The good old days!!

Six Flags over Texas Needs better Management to UPKEEP the park to its beauty it once was, nothing wrong with these modern rides, but the park needs WORK .. SAD MEMORIES

Six flags St Louis St Louis Park was open June 5th 1971 I think it was the 2nd or 3rd six flags Park to open up back then it was six over mid America
It is pretty sad just to see how the past has changed all the way to the present day, how back then it looks like it was always full, now it is like it is a forgotten place, how building are some abandoned. But what I now in life is places or etc. don't always last, they change...

The landscaping, flowers and trees were alot more lush in the 70's at the park. Why they removed the actual six flags that flew over Texas at different parts of our history is strange to me. Afterall, that is what the park was named for. Seeing those flags at the entrance was a memory from my childhood visit to the park in the 80's.

Ownership. S F has changed ownership so many times. I think thats why the park kept losing its charm slowly but surely as the years went...
Newest management is doing their best to bring the magic back. Speelunkers are returning.... buildings being cared for. Give these guys a little time. It's gonna be great!
I love seeing these great old pics compared to the new. Didn't know about that drink stand/coffee shop next to the bathrooms. There's two mistakes unfortunately. The walkway under the train is not now where the Now pic is. It's a bit further down the path. You just cross over the train tracks now. The other is the old really pretty covered walkway was actually behind and around the USA Food Court. It was really pretty and sad that part was taken out. The area shown had the old Cliffhanger and before that the old GM Cars/Happy Motoring Way Cars there. But great pics non the least. Great job!
Hey DizUniSix! Thanks for your comment and I appreciate your kind words. However I can assure you that all locations shown in the video are correct. The location of the walkway under the the tracks to the Good Time Square area is correct. It was located just to the right of the carousel where Gunslinger is today. When the train is now parked at that depot, the last coach is over where that would have been. It's actually still there... just filled in. The building shown where that walkway was, is now a fairly new women's restroom. Where you "just cross the tracks now" is off to the right on the other side of the men's restroom if looking from the Boomtown side. There were two covered walkways actually. The first was covered in wisteria... was air conditioned and went between the modern cars and the Astrolift. I have many photos of it. The other was where you mentioned and overlooked LaSalle's River Adventure. I grew up in this park. Been going to it since 1967. I worked on the railroad back in the early 1980's and I currently am an engineer there now.
