    This brought back some childhood memories. My grandfather was a mechanic in the Santa Fe Cleburne TX shops and worked on steam engines and the early diesels. When we go to visit him we'd go to Six Flags. I always remember him going and talking to the engine crew and they would let him ride in the engine. He loved steam engines. I can understand why so do I. I hired out for the Santa Fe as a conductor out of Galveston in 1979. There were still qualified steam engineers left working at that time. I won't forget them or the stories they told me because they knew I loved trains.

    Hey Cliff! Former SF&T engineer brethren here, 96-99. Now a line haul truck driver moving double pups to and fro. Started there as a conductor as did my wife of 25 years. Currently injured nursing a broken wrist. Thank you and the rest of the crew for this. It did my heart good. Not a day goes by that I don’t think of my first loves Mary Ann and Lydia P. I am so amazed at how things have changed but also stayed the same. I laughed so hard when seeing the rail being greased. I thought "they will be a dropping sand later on the inside rail." Then the wheel slip in the same places followed by sand being dropped on the inside rail. I got a face full of sand by an inexperienced engineer one time during a similar sand out as in this video. They did a great job! Also loved seeing my Lydia (CJP) having her cameo at the end. Again- Thank You and enjoy it every day! PS- I got to work Goodtimes Depot, make full loops while they built Boomtown Depot and was one of the ride supervisors" there when Boomtown opened 😊

      I'm really glad you enjoyed this. I started as conductor originally back in 1980 and moved up to fireman. Moved to the river for the 82 (last) season. Came back I'm 2014 and am still having a ball. If you haven't already, be sure to check out all the other videos on the channel. Lydia has her own show on one.

    Oh man what a great video! I loved all the behind the scenes stuff and I am so glad that the various “owning entities” of the park have seemingly left the railroad and its equipment alone for the most part as it is really about the only thing left that’s original. Thank goodness they didn’t paint it yellow and black and put a stupid Batman on the front of it!

    It’s been a few years since I worked with y’all. Good to see some of you are still around over there. I hope ol’ Red’s running well since she’s not in the video, unless Kirby broke her. Miss y’all. -R

    • @DustyWingsProductions
      @DustyWingsProductions  20 дней назад +1

      Green just doesn't hold pressure like she used to. Getting to the sand out point at 130 is good these days.

    • @BrianGordon-r7l
      @BrianGordon-r7l 20 дней назад +1

      @@DustyWingsProductions Maybe so, but I didn't see the fireman getting the firebox hot before pulling out of Boomtown. That makes all the difference IMHO. Just happy to see the old girl run and appreciate the video. Thank you! I made it a life mission to sand out at no less than 145psi. I might be a bit OCD though. I'd have to open both injectors and the dynmo, to keep from popping off. I know it's not easy on Sam to keep the pressure up when the engineer is using so much steam. I'd go into notch 3 as early as boomtown crossing as the engineer and through the tunnel until putting it into 1 to sand out. It seemed to help the fireman keep the pressure up. Now, it is harder to play catch up on CJP, but once you have 150psi on him/her, not much the engineer can do to prevent me from being at 150psi the whole run. If the pop-off valves were not teasing me, I wasn't keeping enough pressure on a sand out! Once I fired and engineered the MBL/CJP, I totally see why it was Charlie's favorite engine! :-)

    Just curious why the metal plate on the back of the whistle? It’s covering up the back chimes

    • @DustyWingsProductions
      @DustyWingsProductions  7 месяцев назад +2

      The whistles are right in front of the engineer's faces with no windows in the front of the cabs. It's to keep the water/steam out of our faces. I've come up with some ideas to back that plate up a bit and let all five chimes sing proud.... but they haven't done anything with it yet. But I'm hopeful
