Top Offensive Tackles in the 2024 NFL Draft
I'm not surprised by the Zay cut given the cost per position on the depth chart value, but I don't understand why they did it now before having a chance to see that receiver room altogether. I'm not sure Joey Slye ever even got to town so it's an absolute non story.
He just simply cost too much for a backup, there was practically no way keeping him would’ve been a net gain. For him to reach his ceiling which is just living up the contract, you need another player to get hurt which means you lose value there, so I was just never on board given he was slated to earn around $8M.
Should have kept Zay. He caught more bad passes than any other Jag in recent memory.
I think the new system and DC will will give us a better understanding of what we have talent wise and scheme fit
I also believe Parker Washington will be cut before the season. On top of BTJ, we also brought in some very impressive receivers via UDFA. Keep an eye on Wayne Ruby Jr. of Mount Union and Joshua Cephus of UTSA. Ruby put up absolutely unreal numbers for small school powerhouse Mount Union. He had 15 receiving TD's last season and 30 receiving TD's in 2022! He has good size as well. Cephus was a receiver I liked all along, but he has had some alcohol issues in the past. Getting him for basically nothing is a steal. I expect both to make the roster. Jones being cut was no surprise at all. He's hurt too much and I like the cap savings by cutting him. I think we will cut Washington, because he's short, slow and now that we drafted another returner, he really doesn't have a role on this team. As for Slye, he was a real long shot to make the team anyway.
I had Cephus on my big board as an early day three pick
🤔
Freeing up cap room cus they finna trade for Marshon Lattimore.
💯 on Joshua good back up for Thomas or gabe, 6'3". Almost 1000 yards averaged 11.3 a catch, let's go
I appreciate the math in what you report. Being a numbers guy, I can see why the team did what they did. Will be sad to see him go, but it makes sense.
That's a lot of what I want to offer, it feels like most people get told something completely different than reality. In this scenario, it's people telling you Zay Jones only saves $4M when that doesn't take into account what you save in the future.
The success of this draft relies on our GM and scouting group being smarter than the average of the NFL scouting community who put out information online prior to the draft. We've seen no evidence of that over the last few years so I'm very apprehensive about it.
Exactly, if we just isolated this year I could justify each pick, but it’s a trend where we consistently make up our minds before the draft and reach. There was literally one guy I thought I’d be drafting when I did my version, and that was the first round pick. After that it was just whoever was the best on the board and that had the chance to be anyone. It’s almost like they put guys they like as a fit about 50 spots higher to try and justify saying he’s the best on their board.
Good content as always! Keep crushing it
We could’ve taken Chris jenkins with none of the risk
I liked everything but the RB and the Kicker picks. I feel a lot better about our WR, CB and DT depth now. It seems like Walker Little is officially battling for the backup guard position with Hodges and Shatley. Like u, I actually like Little as our next LT but our coaches don’t seem too convinced. Luke fighting for the backup spot against Shatley. Not really comfortable there lol I agree with keeping Zay Jones. Him, BTJ and Gabe are all guys that can legit win downfield. We’ve never had that in Duval. Plus they can all act as insurance for each other. Parker is already looking like someone that can step in for Kirk. I’d expect us to just roll with those 5 this year opposed to 6 like last year. Realistically, Jarrion is probably the only CB competing from day one. Can’t forget we were already investing late picks in the secondary plus we already have few options to cover the slot. It’s possible but I don’t see him beating out Buster for snaps just yet. No knock on him but Buster looked real good when asked to press. Good video tho fam.
I liked our draft even though we didnt get a guard. Got good corners and built the trenches and grabbed a star receiver
i agree. matter of fact its been like this for the past couple of years. seem like they do ok in the 1stt round and the rest of the rounds are throwaway players. as always hope im wrong but im not overly excited about the draft. i AM EXCITED about the D line though. hopefully it translate to pressure and sack vs stroud, richardson and levi.
Looks good to me in 7th round ruclips.net/video/o1skoXiejJI/видео.html
I'd rather have 4 or 5 good players than a couple good ones and 8 mediocre ones. Trade some picks to get what you want.
Agreed, especially with how many rosterable players are already on the team.
Do you think the jags will trade cam for a young guard to replace brand sheriff
I doubt Cam would get traded, I think at this point they have to start him this year unless they have a change of heart on Walker Little.
Hell no, they have to keep Cam now, at least for this year because Javon Foster should sit for a year and develop behind him. They didn't get a premium tackle.
New kickoff rule gives Keilan the 2nd returner role on kickoffs
Yeah, I heard that too, we’ll see how it plays out!
The most disappointing thing about this draft was that we did virtually nothing to upgrade the interior O-Line situation, even with depth. The same goes for edge rusher. We needed depth there and all we did was select a 7th round DE who had 5 sacks in 6 years with 2 coming in a single game against Tarleton State. I doubt he even makes the team. We spent more assets on special teams than we did OG/C and edge rusher. I'm gonna be scouting the OT's hard this year since that will likely be our first round pick in 2025 to start opposite Harrison. The only picks I liked outside of the first round were Jarrian Jones and Cam Little.
I can understand why they didn’t address IOL in the draft because they brought back Shatley (don’t agree with it but that’s my reasoning) and they like Fortner at Center for some god-forsaken reason. Myles Cole is hands down Baalke’s guy. 37” arms made him foam at the mouth a little bit and yes we need another edge guy and boundary corner before I’m comfortable with the roster
That’s gonna be a huge need and overall conversation next offseason.
Javon Foster was a guy I wanted. It's a good pick. Maybe a round ahead like all of Baalke's picks. Jones, Foster and Little are good picks, the rest is crap.
Last year we traded back , drafted a bunch of no names, and analysts had to do research and talk themselves into liking the picks... sound familiar?
It’s exactly what I did last year which is why I mentioned that at the end of the video. I want it to be a great class, but the likelihood isn’t encouraging now as much as I want to be wrong.
The draft class is horrible yet again. Trent cannot evaluate talent. Drafting guys because of their traits and not production is absurd and the reason why he fails every draft. He also has a hard on for SEC schools. These Jags fans that think every draft class is “solid” need to have their heads examined. Thomas Jr. and Jones are the only ones with any upside.
Well said. I do think Javon Foster could be a solid Walker Little replacement but yes overall I agree 100% with you. Now I’m starting to worry about Pederson’s evaluations as well because after the Jalen Reagor pick, Pederson left Philly and now Howie looks like an amazing drafter while he joins Baalke and we have awful draft evaluations every year going forward so far
@@scrubberducky5003the GM is in charge of roster management. These picks have Trent written all over them. Idk if it was just me, but Doug did not look happy in most of interviews when discussing the picks. Trent was all smiles, while Doug was stone faced for the most part.
@@Duuuval23 Doug has always been like that in media pressers. He's an even-keeled guy.
@@Duuuval23 kinda like the above comment he has a resting pissed off face but I don’t like that he wanted Brenton Strange over Darnell Washington last year and didn’t like how he wanted to trade up for Brock Bowers but yes it ultimately all comes down to GM making the picks.
Welcome to #DUUVVAAL🏈🔥
I think we had a Solid draft, now we need these Coaches to go and elevate these players!
Of course you did. You’re a biased fan who probably thinks they have a “solid class every year”. The class is terrible……. Again.
@@Duuuval23 Nope ... your wrong. Been a Die Hard Fan since 1993 when they were drawn up on Paper ... Ive been there since the very beginning and I have seen all the bad drafts and the bad seasons ... If you looked at the Roster rite before the draft started .. The Jags had already set up Starters except two positions : WR and CB, We got Brian Thomas Jr to play Outside WR, and we got Jarrian Jones to play slot CB which both players graded out well for what they do, the rest of the draft is for depth purposes and if you can find a player that can develop and become a solid contributor, then thats what you want. So you saying that this draft was "Terrible" is over exaggerating by a stretch.
They should have been evaluated before the draft.
@@jrfly4307 We are one injury away from having to go back to Fortner and that guy has no business being in the NFL. He would be a backup Center in the Arena League.
@@jayshupp5971 Nobody wants to see Fortner starting ever again, but the Truth is you cannot fill every position on the field wuth 2 or 3 top guys ... No team in the NFL can do that, each team has a whole or two. Also ... we resigned Shatley. He can fill in if need be and would stand a better chance than Fortner. Also, dont forget, you still have undrafted players and then even training camp cuts that can still make us better ... way to early to worry about a center.
Jones is a steal. He is the nr1 or 2 Slot corner in this draft.
Just when I start singing Trent Baalke's praises after round 1, he goes right back to what we all know him to be. IMO, I would've traded down from #48 and I would've taken Renardo Green. Instead, we reached for Maason Smith, who I had mocked to the Jags at pick #114. It was a big reach, but Smith has the tools to develop into a good player. I just believe he would've been there later and this was a perfect chance to trade down and collect draft capital. In round 3, there was no way I would've passed on Javon Baker. I would've snagged him in a heartbeat. The thought of BTJ and Baker being our starting outside receivers in 2 years would be too enticing to pass up. Instead, we drafted Jarrian Jones, who I like a lot, but IMO, I think he works best as a Nickle corner. In round 4, I would've easily taken Tanor Bortolini at pick #114 and T.J. Tampa at #116. I had always intended to draft 2 CB's and to get a couple the caliber of Green and Tampa would be much better than I would have ever anticipated. Bortolini could play either OG position and Center. As soon as I picked him, I would've cut Fortner. I would take Bortolini with the anticipation that he would be Sherff's replacement in 2025. Instead of these picks, we took Javon Foster and the worst pick of our draft, Jordan Jefferson. I don't hate Foster, I just think there were better OT's on the board. If we play him at RT or better yet, OG, he might be decent, but I just don't see him as a starting caliber NFL LT. Jefferson was the reach of all reaches. I had a 7th round grade on him. He wasn't even a starter until the last 6 games of the season and he got "manhandled" at the Senior Bowl. What a waste! In round 5, I would've taken Edge Brennan Jackson and OT Walter Rouse. Jackson's size and productivity would be perfect for our defensive line rotation and Rouse was one of the most underrated OT's in the draft. He could immediately compete for the Swing Tackle job or maybe even a starter's role opposite Anton Harrison in 2025. Instead, we reach for a CB who might have even gone undrafted and a RB for God's sake! What is with Baalke and his fascination with RB's? In the sixth round, I would've taken Auburn DT Marcus Harris. He's a bit undersized, but is a fierce pass rusher who played very well at the Senior Bowl and he has versatility to play inside or outside. I really like him, but instead, we took my #1 Kicker, so I'm not gonna complain. Cam Little should stabilize the kicking game and he is very accurate from 40-55 yards. In the last round, I would've taken South Dakota State OT Garrett Greenfield. He's a project, but I really like this guy and believe he has the ability to play OT or OG in the NFL. He just needs coaching and time to develop. Instead, we took an unproductive DE who only had 5 sacks in 6 years of college and 2 of those sacks came in a game against Tarleton State. Good grief! I don't get it! We should be on the phone calling UDFA's like DT's Fabien Lovett and Judge Culpepper, Edge's Gabriel Murphy and Nelson Ceaser, LB's Jett Johnson and Aaron Casey, S Akeem Dent, OG's Javion Cohen and Kyle Hergel, CB Dwight McGlothern, TE Dallin Holker, WR's Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint and Hayden Hatten, OT Gottlieb Ayedze, RB Blake Watson and QB Carter Bradley.
Thank you for your service bro! The Jaguars community really appreciates your time, efforts and analysis this offseason. Go slay those final exams my man 🤝
Thanks man, appreciate the elite posts on Twitter! 🤝
I give them a B grade
Yeah you would lol. Your bias is showing.
@@Duuuval23 tell me how my bias is showing Einstein
Baalkes entire draft after the 1st were literally all reaches. You could literally drag and drop every pick from round 2 down a round and they still would've been overdrafted. Dudes like Maason Smith were projected 4th rounders. Jarrian Jones (who I wanted for the slot) was a 4th rounder. It's cool if you pick a guy like 5 spots ahead of where he should've gone. Baalke was doing 88 picks ahead of where they should go, that's three rounds over drafted.
@@Kharmatos13 it’s typical of him. He thinks he’s smarter than everyone lol.
Having a D grade for Jones is crazy. One of the best man corners in the draft and arguably the best nickel corner
Go check out the day two video, I explained why which was essentially because my evaluation wasn’t complete. Renardo Green was low as well before I revisited him, so that grade is in no way final.
This draft class is so disappointing. Our best picks were in the first (as usual) the kicker and Foster. Jordan Jefferson is the biggest waste of a pick in my opinion, he is a penalty and locker room cancer waiting to happen. Our secondary honestly I don’t think improved at all, and that is so disappointing with Kool-Aid getting drafted 7 picks ahead and us reaching on two DTs when better corners were on the board
Jarrian Jones is great pick up u sleeping
Totally agree about Jefferson. I had a 7th round grade on him.
@@michaelallen8112 Jarrian jones would be a good pickup if we didn’t have two slot corner-safety hybrids already on the team. It’s hard to project a guy who was moved inside to slot at FSU for a reason to play well outside
@@scrubberducky5003 just go after Travis Blackshear Furman CB or Micah Abraham Marshall
I agree with a lot of this, gonna revisit each player on film but it felt like each pick was a reach. There wasn’t a single pick other than Foster that was a higher ranking on my board than where they took them.
Dude i literally spammed them to pick myles cole and they actually did
Cole had 5 sacks in 6 years and 2 of those came in one game to Tarleton State. He is unproductive as hell.
@@jayshupp5971Yeah but I bet he's better than Chaisson! 😅
I’m good with that one, it’s #236 and the ceiling is great but definitely lots of bust potential.
@@jayshupp5971 That's why he's a 7th rounder. His elite build gives the coaching staff something to work with.
@@moonillusions832 Always take production over potential. Baalke keeps drafting for potential on the third day of the draft (sometimes the second day) and that's why we have no depth on this team.
Im starting to think baalke gets all his drafting ideas from playing madden!
Day 2 was bad even if the guys we take turn out to be better amazing bc we could have gotten them later
It definitely wasn’t what I wanted, but there’s the potential for it to work out. It just hasn’t that often for this regime.
I like smith pick after seeing how we progressed with Travon walker and Nielsen has history developing great d linemen I like this guy
Ryan.Nielson gonna be here 1 year He’s gonna kill it and get a hc job
1st round was a hit drafting the player they wanted and getting 3 picks, but it looks like Baalke is back to being Baalke. Not a fan of these 2 picks
I’m sorry, but I am not a fan of any of the picks. BT isn’t because of the player himself, it’s because of the position. They could have gotten Quinyon or Arnold and then snagged AD in the 2nd and taken Smith in the 3rd.
I didn’t necessarily dislike the player, but I wasn’t a fan of the pick. I had Smith mocked to the Jags, but at pick #114. Taking him in round 2 was way too early. We could’ve traded back and still got him. With that said, I see a lot of upside with him, especially as an interior pass rusher. He looked very good before his injury and was starting to flash at the end of the season. I just wish we could’ve traded back and taken him.
Patrick Paul and trading up to get Cooper Beebe was my dream day 2. Smith could have waited til day 3. Hopefully Smith can put on a few more pounds and take that nose tackle position.
U doing a live stream tonight?
Today is all about taking the best available player. We could go in variety of positions. I'm guessing they target a CB and perhaps a DT. Ideally, I'd love to land JPJ or Renardo Green at #48 and Khyree Jackson or a good OG like Zak Zinter at #96. I'd love Jer'Zhan Newton or Cooper DeJean, but I'm not trading up for them. I really wanna see who is on the board at #48, before I decide if I wanna trade down though. Personally, I would not trade up though. I like how the board is falling. As far as yesterday, I really believe BTJ will be our CeeDee Lamb in 2-3 years. I'm expecting very little from him in 2024 though. Rookie WR's take a while to develop. I believe we will start seeing good things from him in 2025 and by 2026, we will realize that he is turning into something special. I'd still draft another WR, later in the draft. Our depth at the position is poor and why not start looking for a younger, cheaper version of Christian Kirk? I like Kirk, but if we find a similar player, we could save a lot of money. I wouldn't do it until Saturday though. I really like Luke McCaffrey and Jacob Cowing in that slot role.
I know for how my draft has gone I’m just gonna be watching McKinstry, Mitchell, and Powers-Johnson and see how long I can wait before only one is left. I had Newton penciled in at #23.
Why is it Camp - Bell ?
Not trying to be rude, but why is it important?
@@cardiacatsbrand No worry, it just seems a bit off. Don't hear it and it peeks curiosity
Am I blind? You don't have Cooper DeJean on your list of undrafted players going into day2
I’m very low on him, probably too low
@@cardiacatsbrand gotcha. I think his flex between outside corner, slot, and safety... He could be utilized well by Ryan.
Christian Haynes is an absolute dog. Take him if he’s available move up somehow and get a corner.
Outside of QB, RB, LB, and WR. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE JUST TAKE BPA. Baalke your track record after the first speaks for itself. Don’t reach here
We have new assistant coaches from Auburn, LSU and Ten. Prepare for kids like Maason Smith (long arms and knee injury) Prichett, Kamal Hadden, etc.
I’m almost more excited for today than yesterday. So many options. Personally I’d go kool aid.
23 for BTJ. I’m still pinching myself. 2nd and 3rd round is gonna be some fun tonight!
