LOVE these trains and your layout. My dad had a GG1, the union Pacific Alcos, and those beautiful NYC F3s as well! Love the mobile home in between the tracks and the "dirty hoe" garden supply store! Sure wish my parents had not traded in the old Lionels for the HO sets they got for me.

Zach - I'm making the switch from Realtrax to Atlas as well, sort of the same way you did. I am not replacing the Realtrax under the second level (too much work) but will be connecting the Atlas using the MTH transition pieces. My question is how many drops did you run for the new Atlas track, and did you solder anything? My layout is 37'x10'.

Upper loop is out standing. Layout is going to be "the balls" when done. How do you reach the trains on the walls?

The biggest plus in my opinion with Lionel fast track that no other manufacturer has ever bothered to address are the hideous looking switch motors other manufacturers produce, that absolutely destroy the look of every single layout they adorn. Lionel made a compromise that split the hair between classic toy train practicality, and semi scale appearance.

I'm presently using fastrack and I like it along with old school tubular. I tried the MTH track and experienced some problems with dead spots.

I haven't had a trainset since the 70s why are there 3 rails but only a positive and a negative for 2 rails ?
