What a great job you've done, Zach. The T1 looks amazing! I must agree with another of your fans that the original paint scheme really was super, but since you feel a real personal attachment to the Penn Central, it's an appropriate make over for your layout. Very skillfully done and it'll be a special model in your train room from now on!

Also I would leave the engine "as is" without weathering, it's beautiful! But then again it's your choice, no one will fault you for doing what you want. It's what you like, not what "they" like. Enjoy!

I love the alternative universe you've created. The T1s -- instead of being scrapped way before their time, were maintained very well by the Pennsy, and later, by the super-profitable Penn Central, which upgraded them and extended their lives into the late 1960s and beyond. Thanks to the very smart decision to keep coal burning steam locomotives in service, the U.S. easily weathered the multiple Energy Crises of the 1970s. Even today, several T1s labor on in active passenger service on the PC, giving fans an incredible show!

Wow. You are a gutsy guy. Repainting a pricey locomotive like this. But doing what you want with your trains is what the hobby is all about. You did a great job. it is quite the show piece on your layout. It would have been easy to panic when the paint started coming up. I had that problem cleaning a 614-switcher frame. Just stop and think through what it will take to fix it.

@@CountryBunkersTrains locomotive looks great, but this made me realize some thing. I NEED a Amtrak version of this! There are so many other potential ways something like this could go to. we could see a Conrail, New York, Central Niagara, a Burlington, northern 484 Northern Amtrak Milwaukee Rd., Hiawatha or a American freedom, train version of the Dryfess Hudson! There are so many non-Proto, typical post steam era, road names that would look awesome if they got this treatment!

It's fantastic Zac. Great. Protosound 1 engines are much less expensive to buy because like you said most people want cruise. My experience with Protosound 3 upgrades isn't good. It's not universal. Different engines require some special engineering. MTH used to have techs that could tell you what to do but I don't believe that service is available now. I got rid of all my Protosound 1 stuff and am buying Proto 2 or 3. If necessary I replace Proto 2 five and three volt boards with the MTH stacker boards. They work great. However MTH is out of them. I hope they restock them. Now I do try to by only Proto 3 but sometimes you can only find a Proto 2 version of a particular desirable engine. Another great video! One other comment. I started wearing white cotton gloves when I handle my expensive Premier steam engines. No finger prints.

Excellent job on that T1. It makes a nice, fantasy scheme. Nobody should crab about repainting an MTH engine of that vintage. It isn't like you are repainting a 700E. No need to weather it, as it looks quite fine as it is, especially with the passenger cars. The crew talk is still goofy. The vernacular is not very prototypical and It makes us railroaders sound like Bozo's. They seem to put the same talk in all steam engines, no matter what. You don't grease roller bearing side rods, for example. That is my only real rant about all of the engines and cars with crew or passenger talk. As usual, you did a superb job. I'm always looking forward to your next video.

Idea: Turn the URL of this video into a QR code, print it out and stick it inside the shell somewhere. Decades from now someone will acquire this locomotive and wonder how it came to be, Should RUclips still be around, they might just learn the story of it :D
Opinion (something I rarely give out on YT): If PRR actually kept a T1 around long enough to make it into PC ownership and the preservation era, it would no doubt be treated as a corporate ambassador much like UP 4014, and be accorded similar treatment appearance-wise. It might be the _only_ clean-and-shiny PC loco, but it'd be plausible.
In a similar vein, I also got myself a Proto-1 steamer at York (a year 2000 N&W Class-A) that I had upgraded to Proto-3 by an experienced tech. Despite the well-worn box interior, missing foam wrap and missing outer MTH box, he reported that the drivetrain looked pristine, and the finished result runs and smokes like mad. Between the loco, PS-3 upgrade and labor, I got this monster for around $725 :D

Ohh ok. If you wanted to try to do it on your own it’s really not that hard. I called all around and no one really knew why the lights were messed up. But the problem is the chain file that comes with the ps3 sound file is for the ps3 2 board setup. The upgrade is a single board so it needs a chain file for that. It’s a little confusing but I did figure it out and my lights function right.
