Nice introduction to your layout. You have a lot to work with and those long runs are going to be awesome. I liked that you mentioned what your focus will be and are looking ahead to the future. If I ever get the opportunity to build another layout there will be several changes including access, climbing, and bending issues. I know how challenging it can be to document your progress but if you could share your layout milestones with us that would be great. Congratulations!
Thanks for the awesome comment. So glad you stopped by. I am going to make an effort to update a bit more often than I have been in the past. It should be a bit easier now that it's at my home. Thanks again. Marc
Thanks Phil, I'm actually a big proponent of smaller sized layouts. I feel they are not so overwhelming when folks come to see it. They can really focus on the work and detail and not the size. I just got a bit carried away. :)
Just saw your video! I just subscribed. What attracted me was how similar your bench work is to the layout I started in April of 2020, when I was stuck at home for a good part of that year. At the time I was able to get 1/2” MDF to use for my tabletops at an inexpensive cost. I also did use 1/2” foam glued to the tabletop and Gargraves track. For your “duck under” consider using an MTH arch bridge and hinge it to one side, or get the Mianne lift section. Either way will make life easier to get into the middle of your rail empire.
Thanks Bob. Definitely looking into a couple options for the duck under section. With 3 tracks going over that area I will definitely need to look at some options.
This is going to be a fabulous lay out. I would like to ask you to consider one thing as you progress along that almost every RUclips, and layout creator dismisses. There are a couple of us that are really interested in how the transformer lay out panel is equipped. We don’t think about it, but we spend a lot of time looking at our transformers And our switch controllers and all of the things that it takes to make the layout great. If you go to any RUclips video, you may never see how the layout is powered whether you use new equipment or old equipment or a combination, layout panels, how they are laid out, where they are laid out, is actually pretty interesting. It may not be a focus of one of your videos, but I would like to see you include it for those few of us that are interested. Thanks, and keep up the great work.
Layout start looks great. Wish I had enough room for a 50 ft run! I agree with you on track choice, I too purchased a lot of atlas when it came out years ago but yeah, it's expensive. While the tie size is more prototypical the rail heads are too wide making it look almost like narrow gauge. But it was the flex track that really changed my choice to GG. Man it was tough to flex. GG, so much easier to flex (and cut). Thanks for the video, I found it very interesting, hope you'll provide some updates.
Great video update Marc! Your dad was telling me a little about this last time I saw him. I recently redid my layout with new benchwork and ross/gargraves, I couldn't be happier!
Awesome looking benchwork so far. I really like the overall size is perfect and the possibilities are endless. I will be watching if you do more video's. Thanks for sharing!
H Marc, could you include a few photos of the track plan that you have in mind? So far its all looking good but I'd like to visualise what is in store for the layout. Pete from Sydney, Australia
Thanks. Lots of great channels out there regarding O scale trains. I'm really glad to see how many have been popping up. I'm going to stop by your channel and check out your vids. Thanks again!
@@marcsoscaletrainsI have a basic layout with some live train action thrown in. I also do no editing. I will watch your postings, like where you are headed.
Subscribed and looking forward to more videos. I was wondering what you're using for roadbed? Can you give details on the cut saw. If you could include a shot of the underneath bench work in the next video, that'd be great. I'm just starting on my 3rd layout. It will be 10'x24'. I'm using Gargraves track, and ross switches. I have 3/4 inch plywood for most of the table top (it is all from last layout). I used Homasote on my first layout and debating on using it on current build.
Hi @rjshier9188, certainly will. I'll upload another video in the next day or two on the roadbed saw and underneath the bench. Thanks for the comment and for stopping by. Much appreciate.
We do have a lot of O gauge content coming on line, just not many layouts starting from scratch. Keep the vids coming it is informative and great to witness. TX
Marc...new subscriber here from Maine. I find your videos informative. Keep'em rolling please. A question on plywood... I'm putting together a 16' x 8' layout. Four sheets of plywood placed but not permanently attached on four 8' tables. Therefore I'm looking for plywood that won't warp and remain level. Would OSB be suffice or do you recommend something more solid ? I'm strictly conventional, four loops, four Z1000 transformers for now. Thank you for your advice. 👍
I think it depends on your location, humidity etc. Plywood would probably be best in your case as it is pretty dense and if it's lying flat it shouldn't warp. It would be best to screw it down just to make certain it doesn't, but I'd wait and see. You can always throw some screws down if it does start to warp, but I don't think it will. Appreciate the comment.
This is awesome. What a layout. I have a question. I have new model train channel. Can anyone tell me is it better to list my videos 'kids friendly" or not?
I avoid marking it kid friendly. It’s just too risky for the youtube internet police to hit your channel if they hear something they consider not kid friendly. That could be something as simple as you saying the word stupid or dang it! Yeah it’s that bad.
Nice start Marc. Sometimes simple is better, it just depends what you want. This link will take you to a drop gate that may be of interest to you. There is another video in the same group that has a video of a counter balance bridge. Looking forward to your next video. ruclips.net/video/1haGViPuXBo/видео.html

Thanks for stopping by. I never did a full video on how I built the benches, but I do talk about it in a couple recent videos. Pretty basic carpentry stuff nothing complex.
Nicely done Marc! Enjoyed watching the video and your commentary.
Great setup! Love the long straights and your use of multiple curves in the back corner, instead of just a big “O” loop. Keep up the great work!
Nice space, I love seeing layouts come to life from the creativity that inspired them, more updates please! Keep trains rolling!
That’s a very nice layout. Looking forward to seeing more in the future!

Thank you. This helps with my planning. Best Wishes always.
Yes, please...keep posting! I'm still debating Atlas vs. Gargraves for my eventual layout...
Do a lift out section to access the middle area. I did 4 on my layout to make my way through entire layout
Great suggestion. That did cross my mind and I may need to revisit that idea.
keep the videos coming Marc !!

You mentioned that at the end about MTH systems are they coming out with a new operating system?
It's just their newest version with the WiFi combined into the TIU.

Half inch.

Just some LiquidNails basic construction adhesive that I got from a local hardware store.
