    Great restoration. Positioning of camera would improve the video, particlarly the testing of both planes. PM-V11 is quite difficult to sharpen. If you're just putting tiny micro-bevels on the blade right out of the box, not too bad, but try and regrind the primary bevel and you'll be there for quite a long time.

    From my own experience the Sargent is easier to adjust the iron because of the shape of the iron. It gives you more easy access to the blade adjuster , where the Stanley doesn't, and the lateral adjuster on the Sargent autoset is a better option than the Stanley, i have restored hundreds of plane's over the years, and love my Stanley planes, but i do love my Sargent planes too , it the Stanley Iron is slightly off on the Gauge plane it's a pig to adjust , you did a excellent job of restoring them both, they look amazing now, great job and great video much appreciated thank you.

    I thought on a bevel up blade, you don't need to add the bevel to the back of the blade as only the top is cutting. You could add a secondary bevel to the top bevel. But I'm perhaps wrong.

    • @cannonwoodworking5917
      @cannonwoodworking5917 3 месяца назад

      Another viewer asked a similar question. He suggested that I flatten the entire back of the blade instead of the ruler trick. The back bevel or flattening is to give you 2 polished surfaces for cutting. If you don't do either one the blade will not produce clean shavings. Thanks for leaving feedback and watching

So instead of having to comb through & remembering what individual channel does what, the addon basically created Satellite TV channels. I have categories such as wood working, DIY, Machinist, Auto, History, and sports. I don't typically like sports but there are some niche channels that makes sports interesting to me. The Addon is great for adding small & new channels like yourself.

    I swore for years that I would never NEVER have a Sawstop. I did not care about the safety technology, I did not like the asshole who came up with it and has been lobbying the government to REQUIRE it on all new saws, and I basically did not want to jump on the Sawstop bandwagon like almost everyone else in the world. I looked at everything and finally realized that there’s just not a better saw for the money than the Sawstop PCS. I hate to admit it, but it’s the truth. For real SCREW SAWSTOP! But they make a damn good saw.

    • @rainbowbudgies1129
      @rainbowbudgies1129 3 месяца назад

      You have received some bad information my friend. The man who developed the brake stopping technology, first offered it “free of charge” to all the major table saw manufacturers. They all declined. They felt the increase in price they would have to charge, would make their saws unaffordable for most people and they would take a major hit in sales. He therefore decided to create his own table saw in order to put his safety feature out there; thus, Saw Stop was born. Recently, congress has been lobbied to take action toward table saw manufacturers, to develop a safer table saw due to the increasing number of user accidents which seem to be growing each year. Congress (or maybe the Senate), asked Mr Saw Stop (sorry I can’t remember his name), to appear and be questioned for his advice and opinion. The government is the entity that wants to make the braking feature mandatory. Mr Saw Stop did not push for it as far as I understand.

    • @wulf67
      @wulf67 3 месяца назад

      @@rainbowbudgies1129 His name is Steve Gass, and yes he lobbied and continues to lobby the government to require the use of the technology. He claims that anyone is free to use his patented technology, yet Sawstop continues to sue anyone who attempts to sell a saw with technology even remotely similar. Now that you know his name you can google it, but I have a feeling that you would rather just believe what you already believe, and not care to know whether it’s true or not. That’s how most people are.

    Just received my Harvey 3HP 2 days ago. I waited until they had a "free shipping" sale. Not impressed with the way the unit was packaged for shipping, although it appears that it is all there and undamaged. Pallet was just wrapped with plastic with fence and dust collection boxes on the side (with a little crushing evident, but contents OK) and a separate box containing the rails. Nothing at all like the wooden cage that my Grizzly bandsaw was shipped in. Anyway, XPO logistics driver delivered it into my garage. No begging required... Haven't started assembly yet. Will need to go retrieve my shop crane from storage. Looks like a quality machine.

    Looks a lot like a Stanley Handyman. I didn't know Eclipse made Bailey style planes. I know about their honing guides. You should get one. You don't have to get an authentic one. The clones work. My knock off did need some flattening on the bed with a file though. That took 5 minutes. I got mine off Aliexpress. I got the "stainless" model they have. It has a nice heft to it. Honing guides are a game changer with chisels and plane irons.

    I think that sometimes woodworkers have been greatly influenced by RUclips contributors and feel the need to spend tons of time sharpening instead of woodworking. I have never understood the reason going above an 8000 grit stone to get a perfectly sharp edge for most woodworking. I tend to now watch Paul Sellers as my guiding light, down to earth, very experienced and very well respected.

    As per a wiser woodworker than I: "I avoid the Ruler Trick like the plague! The RT was designed for blade backs that are old, pitted and too much effort to get flat. David Charlesworth was inspired in this regard. BUT for BU planes they are a big no-no if you sharpen and maintain blades as I do. The thing is that I strop my BU blades as I work to maintain the edge as much as possible. You cannot strop the bevel face with the secondary bevel (I just do not have the hand- and eye skills of Superman to maintain the angle that is on the microbevel ). So all one is left with is the back of the blade, and it you add a microbevel there (in the form of the RT), then you cannot strop the back either."

    How about a 55 min video reduced to four letters. RTFM. Idiots.

    Had a harvey, upgraded to a sawstop, i mean UPGRADED! The dust collection on the harvey is a joke, if youre working as a hobbyst in your garage its fine but certainly not in a production setting. The sawstop safety feature is the biggest upgrade, people dont consider the price difference between a nic in a finger and a 50k to a 250k surgery... while everyone is comparing a few hundred bucks left or right, thats fine, its your budget because the feature isnt worth a penny until its worth 100k, a year in recovery and possibly lifelong lingering pain. Safety feature aside, lets talk about price and harveys horrible sale tactics, the price changes every other day rendering the resale value worthless, sawstops even on marketplace go for near the purchaese price, the harvey i sold i barely got half the price i paid because their sale prices fluctuated so much. I understand everyone has a budget, so get what you can afford, but i learned my lesson.

    Just setting mine up. Noticed when you lock the fence down, I got some scratching of the paint on the front rail. Has anyone had this issue is it normal? Also, do you want the throat plate flush to the tabletop across the entire plate? Seems I cannot get mine flush over entire area. Tanks

    Q: The brass screw, why did not remove it from the metal holder, will not the rust within continues to eat the metal? .. Also thanks for showing us the progression of compounds BLK - WHT - GRN

    I have the same saw, and I also disable the overarm dust collector and replaced it with a separate shop vac. The thing is, you almost HAVE TO use the main dust collection. If you don’t the inside of the saw - in the internal hose - will clog up badly. The switch should be better placed. Other than that I love it.
