Knobs!
Making some gear to help with making videos.
See my main channel 'Attilas Workshop' here: www.youtube.com/@AttilasWorkshop
I'm getting a lot of comments wondering why I don't just hang the camera under the rail.
There are a couple of reasons why I don't do this:
The first is the camera has a large monitor attached and the main reason I have this is to allow me
to fine tune focus. I just can't focus using the small LCD (poor eyesight) so the monitor needs to stay. With the monitor and the cage handle the camera just wouldn't get very much closer to the floor, and
composing and focusing would be very difficult.
The second reason is all my controls for ISO, aperture, white balance, shutter relea...

Mini Lathe Chuck key Safety lockout
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.Год назад
This project is just something to help me play more safely with my metal lathe. I continually forget to remove the chuck key, as pointed out very gently by a comment on one of my videos, and I'm too old to rewire my brain so here the lathe is rewired instead. I haven't shown any of the electrical work here for obvious reasons due to the strict laws where I live but it's incredibly simple, think...

I've had this little drill press vise for about fifteen years now and almost every time I use it I think to myself, 'gotta do something about the handle'. The thought was to just make the holes in the handle bigger and run some steel rod through, but now that I have a lathe something a little nicer and more useful can be made. I'm still only relatively new to the lathe but this was the first ti...

Mitre saw station from old kitchen part 1

Originally on Attila's Workshop channel Sep 2021 We recently updated our kitchen and I was left with the task of finding a use for the old one. Originally on Attila's Workshop channel April 2019 It's getting more difficult to focus using the small LCD on my camera, so I decided to buy a cheapish field monitor to help. Your high-end build quality and production styling immediately reminds me of two of my favorite makers - Neil Pask of Pask Makes and the eponymous Brian Oltrogge. As others have stated, I appreciate you leaving in some of your process and missteps - we all have them, and (hopefully) learn from them. Great work! With regards to the parting, the more rigid the tool post the better, and reduce your speed and feed to 1/3 of what you normally run at as a rule of thumb, and plenty of cutting fluid, a lot of my parting operations I use the sound of the cutting to tell me when I'm going too fast or if there's too much vibration. Hope this helps

    Always a Treat, Attila!! Sorry for the late show, been preoccupied. Excellent Videography, Design and build, as usual! Terrific on the Anodizing and Nice Job on the Indexer too!! This mount will give you so many options you may not get any work done. 😂 A little tip on the parting large diameters is to go in about 1/3 depth, back out and take a half-3/4 bit width cut from the next part and go in a little farther then back and forth until through the material, also Lots of Lube (all about cooling). You use a bit of material and requires a face off of the next but worth the little bit extra time and saves an insert. Just takes practice and patience on the feed/speed. Also for AL I prefer HS Cut-off tools because they don't break and don't auger in if I peck feed in slowly, plus easy to resharpen. Spiral taps are the best IMHO. Threaded rod is typically Grade 5. Had a project for my brother years ago to thread a 6-32 set screw into the end of a 10-32 SHCS (Grade 8)...Can't tell you how many taps I broke until I "broke down 🤪" and ordered a $40 Spiral tap!! Totally worth it, but still had to go slightly oversize on the tap drill so I wouldn't break my Golden Tap, but it worked great . (BInk- the worst sound in the world, imho). Thanks Always for sharing your considerable talents with us!! Hat Tip, ~PJ

      @awintheshed 2 месяца назад

      Hi PJ, thanks for all the tips I will get some HSS tooling and include a parting blade. As an aside, that tap I broke in the video is only the second tap I've managed to destroy, the first one was in 1989 while tapping a new thread into a 4.2 litre jaguar engine block. I'd just finished rebuilding the engine and was in the process of retro- fitting a later oil filter and line system. I had to tear the whole thing down again and found the broken tap end resting against the rearmost crank bearing. But then again I mostly work aluminium so broken taps are not something I normally have to worry about.

    • @pjhalchemy
      @pjhalchemy 2 месяца назад

      @@awintheshed Didn't realize you started a new channel...Sub'd. 😊 Totally agree with hardly ever breaking taps. E type or XJ? In the late 80's I rebuilt the whole front end and redid the cooling system on an XK-E V12...very nice job except waiting for parts. Sweet sound! Who Knew, rebuild-able ball joints. 😎 My first "Bink" was in a Ford 460CI water pump/timing cover probably early-mid 80's. Broke the hex stud one, had to easy out it then when chasing the thread I broke a "Cheap" Tap. Finally got the broken tap out but then had to put a heli-coil in because the threads were gone. Worse part was you have to take to radiator and front clip off to even get it out...some brilliant Detroit engineer! Maybe broke one other till the 10-32 incident. Agreed about AL, usually except for deep, blind threads. Hat Tip, ~PJ

    10:30 - you are using bad type of tap. This one (with straight chip canals) is for through holes. For blind holes tap have spiral chips channels. This one broke probably because it pushes chips forward and got stuck.

    • @awintheshed
      @awintheshed 2 месяца назад
