  • @CancerTreatmentOutcomes
    @CancerTreatmentOutcomes 5 дней назад

    Very well explained, but the exercises are beyond what most people can do with arthritic hips that have deteriorated to the point of requiring hip replacement. For example, strengthening glutes is important, and just learning to squeeze/tighten your butt from standing, lying down or sitting positions a few times a day is plenty.

    Isn't that second one crossing your legs??

    • @PTTimewithTim
      @PTTimewithTim 9 дней назад

      Great question. This is an easy misunderstanding that is made by many people. Post-op precautions regarding crossing of the legs is referring to a traditional female style of crossing the legs. This is when the leg crosses the midline of the body. The “male” version of crossing your legs does not involve the leg crossing midline though should still be done slowly and with caution initially. You can read my detailed article on this with illustration at pttimewithtim.com/exercises-before-hip-replacement-surgery/

    The pectoralis is a broad muscle. It extends from the clavicle above down as far as the 73 below, and its origins. Stretching it at one height as you demonstrate on the video is not sufficient. It needs to be done that at least three different heights, including below the shoulder, at the shoulder, and above the shoulder for further inclusion of the pectoralis minor, when the palms are held on the wall above the shoulder, the wrist can be bent downward, and ulnar deviation

      This is a great question, with most lateral approaches the precautions include hip internal rotation (crossing of the legs), however the piriformis stretch is hip external rotation. Of course, always follow your surgeons guidelines. If you read my article on preparing for this surgery, you’ll see the pictures which explain everything. Also, given the rotation of 8 exercises, how many times a day? "Someone" said that since I only have 3 weeks instead of 6-8 weeks, I should do these 2-3x a day. Thank you Dr. Tim. I am going in for TRKR on July 30th I am scared. Your exercises are helpful except, I noticed you are not alternating the legs. Is there a reason for that? Great video Tim! Just two questions and one comment: Q1) The sit-to-stand seems a little too easy for me. Can I substitute deep knee bends? Q2) I assume "daily" means 7 days/week (vs. 5 days/week to allow muscle recovery)? C1) When first trying to learn each of these, it might be helpful to keep the "sets X reps" graphic up during your entire explanation.

    • @PTTimewithTim
      @PTTimewithTim 25 дней назад

      The sit to stand can be progressed by doing a standard body weight squat, but only if it doesn’t aggravate the hip joint. Daily typically refers to 5 days with rest days built in to allow the body to recover. Thanks for the comment and questions, Tim!

    • @PTTimewithTim

      Thanks for the comment. I wouldn’t recommend having the mindset that I shouldn’t exercise because I have hip bursitis. Rather, I shouldn’t do exercises that make my hip pain worse. There are specific exercises can actually be beneficial to relieving hip bursitis. Yes, cold packs can help significantly reduce the pain from this condition. I would strongly urge you to read my article on bursitis, which will explain how the condition develops and what to do and not do. You can find it here: pttimewithtim.com/hip-bursitis-exercises/

If not, checking out a nearby gym or recreational facility would be a great idea as you could then use it post-operatively as well after several weeks. I’ve also had patients purchase one as there are some more affordable ones out there for sale. Finally, if you still cannot find one then that’s okay. You’ll just have to use the one in the PT clinic post-op. Hope that helps!
