Hi Davy, Had an SLK 350 a couple of years ago and loved it! Unfortunately the dreaded tin worm started eating the wings and they are a fortune to replace and I hadn’t the finances at that time so I let her go! The tax is criminal isn’t it! Last year I lost my dad and inherited a few quid and bought an Aston Martin DB9! It’s a 2005,5.9litre V12 & only £350 a year to tax!👍 doesn’t make sense does it? Enjoy your car!👍❤️

Thanks for the video Davy, greetings from British Columbia Canada. You mention changing the cam drive belt. Was that the timing chain or the serpentine belt? If it was the chain, do you happen to know why? These engines have the balance shaft gear issue which would present similar codes to a "stretched chain"... just curious, thanks.

Great video. Isn’t the tax just daft? Think how much you’re paying in fuel tax and VAT etc. VED is putting so many great cars into scrap way too early. I love the SLK and it’s only the tax that has stopped me. Keep up the good work on the video, it’s a slog but you’ll get there 👍

Thankfully imines a march 2006 so misses the ripoff tax, I pay more tax than insurance tho which is annoying. Spent quite a bit in parts, twin tube shocks on standard hight springs to replace the 95k comfort suspension that didn't like speed humps, handles the corners well but certainly not as soft. The main intake flap rod had broken due to sticky flaps, took inlet off and cleaned all the sticky residue out before replacing the plastic rods for metal. I'm running the Goodyear f1 3s on rear, great tyre and cheaper than the later 5s and just as good reviews. Replaced the air filters for piper x upgrades as those work well and give more room for air flow in the rather small air boxes, had those on advisory when I had car remapped so just under 300bhp which works very well with the auto box

Finally bought a 350 a couple of months ago. Jasper Blue, the colour i wanted and cream leather. It’s missing the heated seats and air scarf but i can live with that as it will only be used in the winter as backup car. It’s on 53,000 miles on 2005 plate so the lower tax. I am just not prepared to pay the £710 tax for a later model.

Great detail; had an '09 (Facelift) SLK300, it was going to be my "last" car, but there's always a but !!!!! First off, I'm an old guy, and these SLK's do not get easier to enter or exit as age takes its toll on one's legs - you have this cool little car and you look like a dork trying to get in and even worse trying to get out. As for costs, I live in Canada so cannot compare insurance / motor taxes; gas (petrol) on the other hand very comparable to yours, great on a run (in the low to mid 30s) not so much in town!! Repairs and Maintenance, as an old guy, little to no work done by me, everything with the local M.B. shop. I owned the car for just about 2 1/2 years, purchased in pretty much perfect shape with 78,000 K's and traded it in after adding 27,000 K's; my servicing and repairs cost me close to $9,000 (that's Canadian dollars) and that did include two sets of tires - I think Mercedes has shares in the rubber industry or these SLK's just like the smell of burning rubber (it is an SLK problem apparently). Absolutely loved the car, loved driving it, especially loved driving it with the top down, BUT between my inability to get in and out PLUS the costs involved just could not continue with it. Sadly I now drive a Kia Rondo / Carens which after 3 months is totally trouble free !! Hope you continue to enjoy the SLK350.

what insurance company are you using ? I've got a r170 230 and it's cost me 730£ and I don't get a courtesy car I thought I had windscreen cover but I had to pay 75 lb for the guy when he came out

Do anything like that for the r170 I'm after some sort of visor on top of the windscreen pillar or something that attaches to the sun visors. I get awful sun glare when the roof is down feels like the roof doesn't go far enough back when it's high in the sky. is there any like smoke glass window that covers over the front of the windscreen roof??

The long nose does take a bit of getting used to. It's longer than most cars. You're effectively sitting in the back seat.

The facelift was 2009, not 2007. After 10 or so years the R171 inevitably gives hydraulic roof problems - which is an expensive fix. Otherwise a quality build. The 350 is thirsty, but the 200 is surprisingly economical... at 6 litres/100kms (42mpg)

Well packaged. Look simple enough. Perhaps they can update their instructions. Also the bolts would look better black

HELP ME WITH MY SLK GLASS ROOF PLEASE Hi Dave I've just bought an SLK 250CD with a glass roof and there is a solid lining blocking out the light fox sake why did Mercedes do this So would you do a vlog with my car and i can pay for the parts I can get a roof liner for £300 on EBay its £2300 with Mercedes Benz All there is are 2 screws and 6 clips I think I saw a German guy relacing his roof on a SLK 350 and it looked easy Surely there must be loads of people with glass roofs who don't know you can do this and nobody has done a vlog here on this subject Obviously i will help if i can to hold things lol So if you are interested please let me know I'm fuming i was conned, I asked if there was a glass roof and the salesman said yes which there was but I should have asked if it was a sky roof so its my fault, the salesman could have been more helpful but then I wouldn't have bought the car ok look forward to hearing from you hopefully

Really nice review. My partner and I own a black 280. We were going to sell it, but just it out from storage. We are falling in love with it again. I think they are starting to age really well. Much prefer this version to the newer ones. The only thing I really don’t like is the head unit. I agree with you, it’s really dated! I am going to change it completely to a modern CarPlay / android auto unit. Just going through the models to choose.

Thanks, i didn’t get a fabric one so i had nothing to compare. I have one of Pippon's deflectors, he wasn't selling inserts at the time. I had troubles fitting mine and Pippon was so helpful. We were whatsapping in Australia. I ended up putting it away and waited for a sunny day to do it outside as the garage light was poor. When i finally got a chance (it was winter), I got it in, the speaker cover protruded too much (mine had little speakers in there). So I trimmed the bracket and all fit in perfectly. When driving, i get the wobble too. I thought it was due to my trimming of the bracket, but you get it also. So now I don't feel I stuffed it. Great honest video, thanks for posting. Thanks to Pippon for providing a great product as you have to sell a kidney for the genuine one. I think what we have looks fantastic, mine has the merc star in the middle, I love it.

Great video. The Tow button in the centre console needs to be activated when using a ferry. It will prevent the alarm sounding when the car is rocked and tilted etc. There was also an ipod connection option instead of the CD changer giving more space.. Apple reversed the connection so an adaptor may be necessary now. Track information for the ipod is visible in the centre console and can be controlled via the steering wheel buttons. Cars with Xenon lights have automatically adjust headlights and the button below the light switch is the manual headlamp wash. I believe it automatically washes after 5 screen wash activations?

Sounds like some of your drainage holes are blocked up - particularly the issue with the boot. My 2002 R170 is fine touch wood. My seals have been regularly maintained since I bought it six years ago, silicon spray seems to work well every few months, but Mercedes have their own stuff.

Cheers. If you can share the details of the product, price and where to buy. I have the exact same leak areas but very little leakage. Boot , I get leaks from the two plastic pipes that run over that dip which collects the water. I laugh when I clean it thinking MB designed that knowing it would leak or a preventive. I use a cover daily as only use the SLK once a week if that. I've used the official seal cleaning liquid some months ago for this first time. Good shout on the dehumidifier.

Why do I never see a Hawes to Leyburn drive along the opposite side of the valley, going via Hardraw, Askrigg, Carperby, and Redmire ? In many ways it's more scenic than taking the main road.

I have a Mercedes plexiglass one that clips into the headrests, no gap at all. Two quick buttons and it slides right out too

Enjoyable little drive; Have driven that road many years ago but in either an Escort or a Capri (Sadly can't remember) and at that time never thought too much of the joys of driving in an SLK !! Now much older (a lot older) I too own an SLK ('09 300) but I drive on much wider North American roads with no freakin' sheep!!!!!!! I now enjoy the car driving through our mountain passes in British Columbia Canada. As much as I enjoy your videos, please check your pronunciation of the Welsh place names😅😂🤣 - I know it's not easy!
