I think selling out is when someone once did something for love and then they switch and do it for money. The money clouds their decision making and the original thing they were focused on is no longer the same. And it doesn't have to be with music or art. Even in science and engineering it happens. You can have a hobby project that you like to do in your spare time but if that project ever became commercialized it loses all its original flair and is not at all the same.

The biggest sellout industry which currently impacts me the most is the gaming industry. Holy shit, gaming is just a credit card swiping machine nowadays. The definition of selling out to me - Taking a product with a dedicated fan base and milking them for all their worth, with the first priority being generating revenue and the second being quality of the product. A standard triple A multiplayer game today will cost you $60 (prices likely to have increased on average) + premium account status (cant be grinding the game with that 1x XP earning rate now can we) + $10-20 Season/Battle pass (Limited time events, quick sign up to get some emotes and basic reskins before its too late) + Lootboxes (We all love lootboxes aka literal gambling) + Purchasing in game currency (Been around for a while for multiplayer games but how is this now an actual thing in single player games...) All in all, you're looking at the average casual gamer shelling out $100+ on a single game title, today. I rememeber when we all used to joke about games reaching this state around 2010, but we gotta have them fornite skins and emotes I guess, lol.

I'm Canadian and studied at the University of Windsor near the International border. I think Chinese students are better off in United States unless they have some extended family ties in Canada. Canada's antiracism and twisted signaling about the housing crisis only work against Chinese International students. The antiracism makes it harder for Chinese students to get into University because Chinese students do the best academically among the racial minorities. Trying to get equality of outcomes for racial minorities works against Chinese students who tend to get better grades than even white students. Liberals are restricting International student quotas while blaming them for housing price increases. Canadian liberals prefer poor, uneducated and Muslim immigrants instead of highly educated, wealthy, financially independent Chinese. United States does a better job of genuinely helping everyone succeed. The rich have advantages there but race doesn't honestly make as much difference there. United States is not racist but United States lacks as much disingenuous antiracist virtue signaling from liberals. There is no place in the world where rich parents or having wealth isn't an advantage but any form of racism including antiracism shouldn't be a hurtle for anyone.

In practical terms, 99% of the time when someone shouts "sellout!" it's because they're jealous they couldn't do the same. It's projection. Musicians only call other musicians sellouts. Animators only call other animators sellouts. The normie audience doesn't care about integrity anyway. Very few people truly give up their integrity, except maybe censoring lyrics. If a musician changes the genre or style of their music, it's usually organic and not just a get-rich-quick scheme.

Those days were traded in from our grandparents generation. You can't just live off grid. You can't just homeless it up with out still being apart of these oppressive systems. Rejection is a part of life, yes, and I don't mind a few. However it comes to a point where theres way too much rejections that it's nearly impossible but to take it personally. It absolutley destoryed my mind and self esteem when i started my job search first time in my life. It ruined me to say the least.
