This is very true. Society programs you to believe what success is and so many people don't even stop to think things like chasing money, sex, status don't even really matter. This is particularly true you when come to the realisation that no matter what you "achieve" in life it's NEVER enough.

@@lv2keepfit493Buying groceries is a downer? Then make it an upper. Tell the guy at the deli counter a joke. Tell the checkout person, "Wow, you're terrific at scanning!" Give a dollar to the local food bank. It's your way of saying, I have more than enough, I can share.

"Be the change you want to see in the world". This is one thing I fundamentally disagree with you and Gandhi on and I'll tell you why. I believe in strict and firm rule of law, in the interests of the people and not a parasitic minority. The whole point of government is people organising and governing over themselves - of the people, by the people. Today this is a broken ideal, governments have been usurped by the wealthy capital interests, people have been convinced into loving neoliberalism, an idea that government needs to stay out of the way of big business and that regulation is evil - when the original idea of a democratic government was that it was the will of the people and needed to regulate and organise society. As a result we today have a new aristocracy.
You being good and honest is good, but it will not change the world you inhabit, people who are opportunistic and unashamed will simply laugh at you and overtake you in most feats. In the past karmic motions of what goes around comes around generally saw the greedy and wicked end the way they lived. Today however, the neoliberal government is peopled by the wealthy and will act swiftly and with upmost hypocrisy, to protect the gains of the wealthy at the expense of he who simply wanted to do it right.
