I watched your video. I bought the 35-150 for my z6ii. I adored the lens, still do. Yesterday, I bought the MB-N11 battery grip. I attached the grip to the camera, with the 35-150 on. I proceeded to pick it up and hold it without much thought - *click*. You're right. The bone of my palm just below where my right index finger attaches to the palm exactly aligns with the bottom button of the lens. How unfortunate......

24-120 f/4 is a stellar lens and alternative. Rocking that lens you'll already have plenty of stabilization coming off your camera's IBIS I mean if it won't suffice in most cases then I'd argue it's not the lens, shouldn't be a factor Yes it's not as bright as certain other lenses, but it still performs really well and I'd honestly put the 24-120 as a viable option IMHO there will never be an endgame one-does-it-all type of lens. The 35-150 from Tamron is really versatile, but it's definitely costly. Pairing the 35-150 with a 14-30 or something like that would be pretty golden in my book, but I suppose it's all about individual use. I have the 24-120 f/4 S and the 70-200 f/2.8 S, and yes there's an overlap but I feel these two cater for literally anything, at least for me I mainly do product presentation and everyday outdoor / family photo. Some landscape. These are perfect for that The 24-120 is even great for semi-macro photography as it has a 0.35 m focusing distance across the entire zoom range I get it's not entirely the same as the 35-150 from Tamron, naturally these are different, but I'd argue some might be torn between these as they do cater for a similar use case altogether Fully extended the 24-120 even directly competes with the 35-150 due to the focusing distance alone, seeing that you'll be looking at a 0.85 m or something like that with the latter. The 24-120 even handles its bokeh and overall separation really well, even at f/4 There are definitely some gaps in the Z lens lineup, and on paper the 35-150 should be a very nifty workhorse in this specific segment, then again, and sadly, there will always be some caveats Unless you tend to work in very harsh or demanding lighting conditions, say weddings, stuff like that, the 35-150 would definitely be my pick Aside from that, the 24-120 is a very great option overall, and I'd strongly recommend it for anyone on that specific budget. If you manage to get a second hand unit in decent condition, that might actually be a very good deal

Great video, Robert. You're so fortunate to have places like Elan Valley in your neighbourhood, I wish I had. Will definitely have to add mid-Wales to my list of places to visit (but probably never will...😞). That train ride though seemed like a bit of a horror story. Pop your head out at the wrong moment and you'll never have to visit the local barber again...

Love your pictures, especially of the Loco. Kinda curious for the Delta 3200 results tho. 😜 I got back to shooting film as well lately. I find the slower approach simply relaxing, almost contemplative.

good as always. I would like to buy a more powerful lens for my S5, to go with the 20-60. Given that the prices are more or less similar, what do you recommend between a 28-200, 24-105, 70-300 from Panasonic? Many thanks

Nope not petty. I was having the same issue pressing that button. So I disconnected it. Lame to have it. I even got an after market foot for it but it was in the way of using the zoom ring. I'm so flustered because I loooved the idea of this lense. But sent it back

I use the Sigma fp L + EVF-11 Viewfinder with a Sigma 14mm f/1.4 lens and an XLCS cage on which I have a DPL aluminium rack fitted with a 2TB SD card (no wires) and a wireless shutter system. So far, I have used it for street photography, landscape and to a lesser extent architecture. It is unbelievable. Straight out of the box, I have found the Sigma to perform better than the Leica SL3 I have tried before from a colleague at work and yes the Sigma is expensive... until you try it and consider what you get for the price. Then you will realize it punches above the weight of cameras that cost three times as much. Sigma is actually a bit like Mamiya, these are extremely well made cameras but the brand is itself quite specialized. While Mamiya made an attempt at 35mm film camera in the 80s (I had one that was stolen in a burglary) it is not a brand that is known to the greater public, it is a brand that is exclusively known to professional photographer and anyone with an interest in medium format. These are two brands that are often ahead of their time but that for some reasons don't quite have the badge and appeal of a Leica or Hasselblad to photographers who very often never use their camera to the best of its ability. There is almost this idea that owning a Leica or Hasselblad will make you a great photographer without you working towards it. That's why I think the Sigma is so popular in Japan the way Mamiya was in the mid format offer, because it offers a hell of a lot more if you care to pause and read the manual and watch a lot of RUclips videos. Japanese people I believe have the patience and the will to work for it and extract what is hidden inside. It is an almost endless learning curve. It is ironic that the fp is marketed as being specialized because I have found it to be in fact quite versatile considering what it does. Even the preset settings are more interesting than that of the Leica. To me this is the sort of camera that might become collector because you know there is no guarantee Sigma will ever produce a series of fp upgrades. The fp and fp L offer is an acquired taste among photographer and the lack of mechanical shutter is the absolute breaking point for the "purists". I love a mechanical shutter too but I can work around it. When you look at Sigma's cameras over the years, they tend to come up with quirky innovative models but they are always hit and miss and never quite get the recognition they deserve just like Mamiya did not quite always get it compared to Hasselblad. The company was sold and bought a few times over. What is reassuring with Sigma is that their Lens are now recognized as some of the best when maybe 10 years ago, they were in the Tamron category, you would buy them only if you could not afford the Nikon, Canon, Sony and Pentax lenses. Overall I bought the fp L exactly for what you said, the quality and results you get, the ability to keep it reasonably compact and because there is so many smart accessories for the Sigma out there, the flexibility it offers. For the thing I do right now which is hiking and sailing, I only need three thing: my Sigma fp L, Insta 360 and a DJI Mini. I might get a 35mm Lens after that and it will be it. When I used to have a Nikon DSLR I would carry so much weight, very often I would not bother to take it out and use my mobile phone instead... this is how bad and sad it was.

My favorite type of lens either❤ It is extremely suitable for almost any kind of usage. No matter you want to take foods, streets, landscapes or playing instruments it always performs great. The only issue of this lens will be the motor, a little bit noisy especially with cameras like Zf, the noise of motor will be recorded to the audio and sounds like a geiger counter

Different Time zones could be pretty contra productive in lifestream, and some of us do full time job.... I love your videos, having 50 nifty I was not much interested in comparisons of similar lensens. As wildlife finderscoop rubberneck that 28-200 video was a piece of my interest. Planty of us are ADHD diagnosed, I do have to take time and watch videos in sequences as are I am not capable to do it in one 17 min dragnet.

I agree 100% with all of your comments, to be honest I am still using a lot of "F" glass on my Z9 as the Z glass is expensive and also looks boring!

I think this video highlights the problem with receiving gear for free for review. These are objectively minor nit-picks, but when you amplify those nit-picks by $1800 of your own money they matter.

Good video. I tend to agree with you and while the 1.4TC works fine on my Z8 with 100-400 it is far from that with the 180-600. I have found that sharpness suffers as do the other aspects as you mention. Fortunately I can shoot in crop mode if required & leave the TC at home when I have the 180-600 with me.

Yeah, trying to make all this online video stuff work is extremely difficult. I've been at it on my larger channel since 2011 and still have no answers. 😅 It's challenging to reflect on a video that takes at least a few full days of time result in 50 people being interested in it. Most of my work here is from search or external as well.

i think a walkthrough and brief history of older gear would be fun to watch. im not a consumer of shorts, i find the experience Not Good. personally i'd rather see a longer video with chapters. eg "cameras from the 50's #1 #2 #3" etc. keep up the good work, i super enjoy the content.

I enjoy your content here, its slightly esoteric and a bit nerdy, but so am I.

I gave up years ago. I have videos with 15k views but I have only over 1k subs. My channel been going a lot longer than yours. I know the issues, I am the worst YTer, I make videos too long (20mins) whereas my average audience is watching 4mins (unfortunate when my format is about producing evidence and coming to a conclusion/point at the end). I release seldomly and randomly and my attention can be split across brands. YT rewards trash released frequently. The vlogger will get traction. High quality infrequent video releases never get the love and attention they deserve. Probably my favourite RUclips channel is Bryan Birks, he sits on only 27k subs, releases 2-5x/year yet his content is infinitely better than anything else out there. I enjoy your channel and demeanor. Just curb expectations. If you want to really succeed you have to play the game, its a full time job.

I often get a video in my YT feed, and clicking on it discover it's a year or two old. Some with decent though not exceptional views, but when I look in the comments there are many from the previous few days! Where has it been hiding, and what is the engine of its sudden rediscovery? Regarding digital cameras, the market is clearly saturated. One well-known reviewer of new gear who has been around since the early days of RUclips, is better than most but gets nowhere near the traction of the competition. My own prejudices are towards niche subjects that are necessarily small and self-selecting, but do their little thing marvellously well.

Friend, do you understand that RUclips algorithms are a super dumb machine based on taking into account repeating combinations. RUclips recommends channels when the algorithm understands who they should be recommended to. Let me give you an example: you shoot a video about how to shoot birds, it looks for those who are looking for something similar and recommends it to them. Then you shoot a review of 50 mm lenses that have nothing to do with shooting birds, and the algorithm is dumb, it no longer knows where to attribute your content: to people who are interested in shooting birds or to people who are interested in lenses. And it understands your retina recommendations because it does not understand where to attribute you, and people who are interested in shooting birds do not click on your videos about a 50 mm lens, as a result, the algorithm understands that the video is bad and stops recommending it. Dude, the algorithm is a dumb machine, it only promotes highly specialized channels, it's that simple!

I love your honesty, I too have a channel and agree with you, I stopped chasing views a while back, I found the best way to promote the channel is through social media, rather than relying on youtube. Good luck Robert, I truly enjoy your content.

I am disabled veteran with same challenges. I can say with some authority, I do understand. The challenges are real. All we can do is carry on to do the best we can. I have taken up cameras for photos and videos. It holds my interest. Do what you enjoy for you. The purpose of my hobby is for me. I have reached a point where I welcome those who support my efforts and any others can just piss off. Do for you, is what I am trying to say. Approval is a unreliable rating of our effort because so many people are really fickle about everything. Do for you. Find what sparks you and do that, for you. Cheers.

I have this camera and the flickering is really bad, I have contacted Nikon and asked them if they have any plans for a firmware update as I can't keep it if they don't plans to fix it, they asked for samples of the problem, I sent them many video samples and they have escalated the case to their technicians, hope they can fix it otherwise I guess I'm gonna have to sell. I hope as many people as possible contact Nikon to get this problem noticed and addressed.

Few tips: (z7 ii user) - Set Zebras (mostly used by cinematographers but I use it for photos as well) - Use mini histogram and watch the right side to never over-expose - Use Aperature priority mode with: Auto-ISO and minimum shutter. Then set the EXP-Compensation to between -1 or -2 depending on light situation and the light metering to multi-zone. I always shoot my z7 ii like this. Just adjust the minimum shutter depending on how fast of movement u are shooting and adjust f-stop how you like it, camera does the rest. Once I found this, I’ve never shot manual anymore.

So glad to find this video! 😌 I absolutely love the look of an 85mm on a FF body with a low f-stop. Vintage lenses especially, love it! Hands down my favorite focal length for look. 135mm comes close tho but it is WAY TOO TELE FOR ANYTHING BUT PORTAITS! Every single 85mm shot looks like a movie, idk why that is: the depth compression, the focal length, words don’t do it justice. It Really made me realize that years ago as a beginner photographer I didn’t focus on the different compression and look of different focal length lenses enough. But I find myself in the same scenario that it’s not really usable for lots of things, only portraiture and very selective street/travel/wedding photography. I got 2 hacks tho: Hack1 is using extension tubes to be able to use it for macro shots. On really sharp 85mm lenses this is golden. (To get past the min focus distance problem) Hack2 is using a high mp body and switching it to crop mode with a custom button map to turn the 85mm into a 127,5mm for wildlife. Also there is a specific reason why 85mm is so popular: - The compression of an 85mm is the most similar to what the human eye sees when photographing people. (Wide/Tele lenses make people look weird because of the compression)

I just traded the 24-105mm for the 28-200mm and feeling a bit of seller's remorse. Although the image quality of the 24-105mm was excellent, I'm hoping this bit of kit will inspire me to bring the camera along more often and that the images quality will be comparable in the long run. I supplement with Lumix 18mm and 50mm, Sigma 105mm with TC for other photographic needs.

I have the same problem myself but there is a very easy solution: 1. take a piece of hard thin cardboard like cut a piece of a business card 2. take some black tape and tape the little piece of cardboard over the button Solved. It’s ghetto but it works 😂
