    errrr refill the water ????? Just to be clear a single cig contains between 10 and 14 mg of nicotine, and when you smoke one , you take on approx. 1 mg of nicotine, Nicotine is harmless , but in cigs the combustibles contain much worse chemicals. @stevejones-gz4vd I think there’s some confusion here. The safety profile of NHS-provided NRT, which delivers low, controlled doses of nicotine to help people quit smoking, doesn’t make nicotine itself harmless. Nicotine remains a highly addictive substance with proven effects on heart rate, blood pressure, and brain development. The fact that NRT is a tool to minimize harm doesn’t negate the risks of nicotine, especially when used recreationally in vapes or cigarettes.

      @DrSophieGP 10 часов назад

      I’m so sorry to hear about your experience, and I truly appreciate you sharing your story. Cancer is, unfortunately, very common, and it’s understandable that this would shape your perspective. We know from evidence that transdermal oestrogen combined with micronised progesterone carries a very low risk of increasing cancer risk for most people. However, it’s also true that all medications come with potential side effects, and the decision to take HRT should always be a personalised one. It’s important for individuals to weigh up the risks and benefits with their healthcare provider, considering factors such as family history, other risk factors for cancer (e.g., smoking, alcohol, obesity), and overall health goals. Thank you again for sharing your experience, as it’s a reminder of how nuanced these decisions are.

      @@RockyRoe-g8v I respectfully disagree with your assertion and assume from this link that you believe keto / carnivore diet is the only one to prevent diabetes. As I explained in the video, there are many effective dietary approaches to weight loss and managing pre-diabetes, and the key factor for long-term success is adherence-choosing a diet someone can stick to over time. Promoting one diet as the only way to lose weight and prevent diabetes is not only misleading but irresponsible. The evidence clearly shows that weight loss itself is what improves blood sugar levels and reduces diabetes risk, whether achieved through a Mediterranean diet, keto, or any other balanced approach. My advice is evidence-based, and I encourage people to choose a method that fits their lifestyle and health needs. The same cannot always be said for proponents of extreme diets. I stand by my recommendation because it’s grounded in science, not dogma. If you have constructive feedback or questions, I’m happy to discuss further, but personal attacks have no place here.

    T2D is not just about diet. A person can develop insulin resistance due to high levels of cortisol, caused by anxiety/hypertension.

    • @DrSophieGP
      @DrSophieGP День назад

      The aetiology of T2D is indeed complex, but we know losing weight in those who are overweight reduces the risk of diabetes. People in one large study reduced their risk of developing diabetes by almost 60% after losing approximately 7% of their body weight with changes in exercise and diet. We don’t have good evidence to suggest a causal link between anxiety / cortisol and T2DM

  • @Jon-es-i6o
    @Jon-es-i6o 2 дня назад

    I don’t understand how all this has come about. I’m 60-yo, my parents were non-smokers, rarely drank alcohol, but ate pretty much whatever they wanted. Plenty of carbs, sugar, and caffeine. My dad lived until 90-yo, died from Covid. My mum 89-yo, had PBC liver and died of a weak heart. Personally I find all this talk of T2D very depressing.

    • @DrSophieGP
      @DrSophieGP 2 дня назад

      The root of the increase in type 2 diabetes is linked to the increase in obesity and the cause of that is very complex, but we live in societies where high calorie, processed food is readily available and we are more sedentary than ever before. The less depressing bit is that we can change our paths and make positive changes!

    PA is a popular profession migrating from the US to the UK. The bottom line is PA's are cheaper to employ and on many levels they are as competent. The NHS itself is in a very poor state and anything they can do to make it cheaper they will. To be honest the whole educational process for Doctors in archaic and does not support scaling to meet modern demands, its overdue for a revision.

    • @DrSophieGP
      @DrSophieGP 2 дня назад

      Medical education for doctors is always adapting and isn’t stagnant. PAs are a false economy, as may be cheaper than consultants, but not resident doctors, moreover, less knowledge is likely to lead to an increase in unnecessary investigations, as well as errors.

    PSA level is high , prostate is the size of a 20 y.o. per my urologist by MRI scan. Suggest a biopsy, but I declined. He wants to see me back in 6 months. Should I get a biopsy? BTW I'm 67 y.o.

      I can’t give any personal medical advice I’m afraid. The urologist is the expert here, or if you have concerns, you could seek a second opinion

    Thank you. I got albuterol with antibiotics for a chest infection, I’ve never needed an inhaler before and the included literature was… lacking. I’ll hold the next dose for 5-10 seconds 👍

    Hi Sophie, I’ve only recently discovered your channel and really enjoying the videos that are really helpful. My brother who I care and support does have attacks of gout and know how painful it is for him. I will definitely look into the medication you have mentioned with his GP to avoid further flare ups. I am also curious where you are based in the north of England. I live in The north west of Lancashire and your accent sounds very familiar. 🥰

    Most will not believe what I'm about to tell you. Went to primary care Dr. For routine check up at 69. PSA 11. he recommended i see a urologist. 2 months later my PSA. WAS 17. BIOPSY WAS then done 8 pulls cancer 15% in 2 pulls. Growth is outside the prostate capsule. Gleason good 7. 3+4. They categories me as stage 3 cancer.Proton was recommended and hormone therapy. I agreed to neither one. The urologist told me Proton and then changed to photon therapy . His reason didn't sit well with me so I walked away. A year later my PSA WAS A 34. ( NO DECIMAL POINT ) still no treatment whatsoever. Lots of testing. MRI, PET scan, cat scan, bone scan, negative lymph node scan negative. Trip to the hospital over a year ago random PSA done . Was a 23.. I am 73. I have NO symptoms. I go to bed at 9 and up every morning at 5:20 No pee breaks Employed full time . I will die WITH prostate cancer, NOT From It. I have God's word on it.

      Thanks for sharing this. If you were not high risk and were asymptomatic, I wouldn't have suggested you needed a PSA in the first place. Glad to hear you are remaining well.

    I discovered a way of getting rid of the dizziness associated with virtigo. In it I find a fixed feature on the wall or ceiling and focus fully and utterly on it for between five and fifteen seconds. The dizziness disappears within this time frame provided that the eyes remain open od fully focused on the chosen spot. It helps if the focus spot is clear and sharp, even if it's a nail or screw or a small wall light. I now rely fully on this method to get rid of any dizziness. Hope it helps someone.

      Evidence shows us this isn't true, the carb-insulin hypothesis has been thoroughly debunked with metabolic ward and real-life studies.

    Allopurinol side effects is that it causes gout. I was on it for a few months eating clean & had flare ups happening & couldn't understand why, I then looked at my meds & that's when I found out that Allopurinol causes gout. Stopped taking the meds & have been clear of gout thus far, while eating clean.

    • @DrSophieGP

      When you start allopurinol, it can cause a flare of gout, so we always start it alongside a preventative medication at first. You certainly can reduce risk of gout flares with lifestyle changes, so well done 👍🏻
