Is Dune: Part Two BETTER Than the First?
You dealt with this so respectfully and broke this movie down so well
You know, I’ve seen this and completely forgot I saw it 😅 Really isn’t memorable
I have never seen ring (always been too scared to see it) so it is defo something I want to see I didn’t even know about the thing being a remake!
My list of you if you get the chance! 1. The grand Budapest hotel 2. Rocky horror show 3. The princess’s bride 4. Labyrinth 6. Silence of the lambs 7. Lord of the rings: the return of the king 8. Howls moving castle 9. Pride and prejudice 10. Paddington 2 ❤
What a brilliant breakdown! I love the way you link this to so many different elements. You are totally right about the way it has completely influenced horror. The SpongeBob meme is always one I will forever remember as well
cillian murphy in peaky blinders clears it for me as the best
You would love Mr Denzel Washington in Cry Freedom. ❤❤❤
You see Steve Biko, Malcolm X, The Hurricanne, John Q. What an amazing actor. ❤❤❤
The movie is good in my opinion, if you hate this movie, go get help
Your channel is a hidden gem. Adding to what you’ve mentioned, this lead actress is kinda incredible. She communicates so much with so little.
@@Garrett1240 I appreciate that so much, genuinely, thank you.
@@kritpickproductions You’ve put me on to ‘El Conde’. Beginning it now at 3:30 AM Central US time, haha. Cheers. 🤝
@Garrett1240 Let me know if you enjoyed! Or if you have a Letterboxd where you write, let me know and I'll look.
I enjoyed this film and I'll die on that hill. 'The Wizard of Oz' was the first film I saw in my entire life. I'm dating myself a bit here, but my mom bought me the 50th anniversary edition on VHS and I quickly wore that tape out. So when, 25 years later, I heard that Disney was releasing a "prequel" of sorts to the original, one that drew upon the original novels by L. Frank Baum, I was elated. Lo and behold, I saw it in the cinema and enjoyed it immensely. Sam Raimi's clearly a cinephile (as one would hope most directors would be) and it shows in each frame. Not only did he give clear nods and cues to MGM's 'The Wizard of Oz,' but he also put his unique spin on the plot and characters. It was an enchanting experience and I hope that, one day, someone takes on the challenge of creating an Oz cinematic universe. Those familiar with Baum's original series know that there's a sh*tload of lore and it'd be exciting to see it adapted. Great assessment you've made here, my friend! As you can see, I, too, think it a better film than most people remember.
@@chestersakamoto6843 I appreciate this comment, thank you!

Once for all, "sex pistols" or "velvet underground". Who did it harder?
super late to the party but if you keep doing these my letterboxd username is @goht_cheez and my top 10 list is on my profile :))
7:22 I think my favorite Christmas movie is the Christmas special in Arthur show.
6:20 I think airing the episodes daily (Sunday to Thursday or Monday to Friday) is better than weekly and instant airing of the shows.
Nicely done. A bit strange that you don't mention Kurt Barlow from Tobe Hooper's 'Salem's Lot' though. Very Orlok-y.
@@rubennollet4623 I did initially have a whole section written where I went through a load of influences, and this was on there, but it eventually got cut because the video was just a bit bloated. Great shout though!
I'm a huge Oz fan and think Oz The Great & Powerful is a delightfully wonderous film that sits well amonst the Oz legacy. It's not perfect but it's got so much genuine wonder, awe and heart. Raimi brought his A-game with the direction, and the 3D was actually fantastic and not just an afterthought as it was for many films at the time. That climatic Witch fight is the stuff of dreams! And don't get me started on that moment Oz lands in Oz and it switches from b&w full-screen to color widescreen- still a mindblowing sight! Fwiw, I noticed that alot of Wicked fans get critical of Oz The Great and Powerful because it is an alternate prequel and challenges something beloved to them. I love them both and think there's plenty of room for them to be enjoyed by Oz fans! I way the Wicked. Also this film is always talked about as if it's a flop but it got decent reviews in release and was number one at the box office for two weeks. Not as successful as Alice in Wonderland but still a success.
Looking at Clementine and Kelly Anne reacting to the snuff film. Clementine is the working class. She responds with emotion and believes in conspiracy theories. Kelly Anne is the elite intellectual. She coldly analyzes everything however appalling.
Interesting and you’re right
Kelly Anne often reminded me of Gaahl.
I also find this movie to be underrated.
what i dont get is how ppl think shes satisfied at the end cuz she ''caught'' the killer instead of herself enjoying the evil herself as a satanist (looked more to me as she was orgasming at the end), also satanic upside cross + hints throughout the films and the obvious dressing up as the girl,.
I went to the movies back then and I loved it, great movie, and cool story about Oz background
Gonna go ahead and put myself in the "what are we even doing here, seriously?" category
@DetroitResident 1. There Will Be Blood 2. The Princess Bride 3. Good Time 4. Hot Fuzz 5. The Devil Wears Prada 6. Ratatouille 7. The Fellowship of the Ring 8. Inglourious Basterds 9. Thief 10. My Neighbor Totoro
I started collecting DVDs this year, just of my favourite old movies and tv shows and it has been a really fun hobby that I look forward to, especially when I discover that it comes with special bonus features. I hope physical media makes a comeback, there’s so many tv shows (Derry Girls 🤞🏻) out there that I hope will get a physical box set one day
I honestly thought this movie was really well done. Sure it could have been better in some spots but I really enjoyed it.
Really good read of the movie. Thanks for this.
9:10 Dom met Han in the short film "Los Bandoleros".
@@rihabshaikh9666 oh yeah, I know but I meant general audiences were not familiar with it and still aren't, really
There are a few places in NYC that show the movie Nosferatu every Halloween with a live band or organist playing the movie. I really should go see one of the shows these days.
Major error at 3:55. You said there was a film version of Dracula that was made in 1986 that predates the movie Nosferatu which was made in 1922. Think about that for a moment. You're not making any sense. 1986 is 64 years AFTER 1922. I don't think you understand how math works. I think you meant to write 1886, or something along those lines. That's a 100 YEAR DIFFERENCE!
Those graphics in "the Devil's Castle" are way too good to be from 1986, looks more like 1996, lol.
Please do the original 1986 and 1988 35mm film restoration and scan of The Great Mouse Detective and Oliver and company . Their 1985 opening logo variant from Walt Disney pictures has not seen since the 1980s and never placed on home video.
Please stop getting the century wrong lol. Even in your caption here you got it wrong @3:57
It was an innocent mistake that is also quite evidently a mistake, it's not that deep, man.
haha I know, I know, but after the like fifth time my OCD-ass had to comment 😭
Great video!! Loved the breakdown of the Dracula source and adaptations. And it's crazy to think what a film world would be without Nosferatu!
@@PaulLBerriman Thank you so much! I'm glad my research wasn't for nothing haha
@@kritpickproductions Definitely did not go to waste, and I learnt something!
Great coverage of a truly great movie. The 1922 Nosferatu is my favourite vampire movie so you're preaching to the already converted (me)! I'm waiting for the Eggers version of Nosferatu and hoping it's faithful to the 1922 version and a horror movie to take that extra step over Herzog's remake. And I also love Shadow of the Vampire and What We Do in the Shadows, and given that it's a Kiwi movie and I'm Australian, that's a pretty big leap on my part.
@@brettcoster4781 Thank you for watching! It's a brilliant movie and I'm glad you're a fan of all that I am too lol, I think Eggers will do a fantastic job too.
4:12 1896
yeah i was like wtf?
@@Tiago_SD Yeah, I mentioned it under a different comment but it was an error I didn't pick up on in the edit, my mistake. Happens sometimes when you're a one man team doing a video a week whilst trying to have a full time job and all of life's other grievances. My apologies!
@@kritpickproductions Great video man, really enjoyed and give a lot of insight, good research. Just to let you know 🧛🏻♂️
Oh no the 1980s.
Polidori's book is from 1819
Saw it with live organ accompaniment. The improv was shining esque. Brilliant.
I like the analysis, it seems pretty accurate. The background music is very distracting, please consider recording without it next time:)
I cannot believe and stress how much people do not understand the meaning of remake / reimagining of movies. Remake I'm not supposed to copy seen by scene from the original movie. A remake takes ideas from the original movie and modernized it for a modern audience. People don't understand why buddy is not Brad dorff. Did the Giants this is a completely different version of Chucky people need to understand that. People who do not like the remake it's because they're ignorant in their own minds. And fyi. Don Mancini did not create chucky. It was actually Tom Holland Tom Holland came up with the idea of Charles Lee Ray character, the voodoo, and the Lakeshore strangler idea. Dom cry babies need to do the research before they talk crap about the remake and realize that he was not the one who created Chucky.
3:55 Muppet bat!! 😂
this would be a terrible movie with bad pacing, you can send a message but you also have to sell tickets. I think the opening and young-ish snow is a good shout. But then slow down, make the audience like Haymitch, give him personality (even if it's sarcastic quips) Throw in some 12 lore for book fans. Then introduce his first mentees, have them be likeable and have Haymitch be hopeful and optimistic about them winning despite being from 12. Trick the viewer into thinking the same even though they know better. Have them die immediately. Haymitch starts to drink. Some scenes showing his alienation from the capitol and the rest of 12. More of his mentees die in ways that further trigger nightmares and PTSD allowing us to see scenes from the gorgeous utopia arena he fought in that fans love. He drinks more, the nightmares lessen, the tributes blur together, he goes from sweet and optimistic to cold towards his tributes. They continue to die. At some point a young Effie Trinket appears when Haymitch is in the capitol, they start out irritated by eachother but eventually have entertaining back-and-forth flirtation. He won't let his guard down though and certainly not for a capitol citizen. His drinking gets him in trouble with the capitol, maybe he accidentally makes a mockery of things or says something he shouldn't and THEN he's punished by Snow threatening his tributes or Effie. He should make friends with a morphling for some good writing about addiction and trauma. Maybe we see him bond with other victors through the years. His alcoholism starts to make him ill, heightening the stakes, and he continues to be cruel towards his trubutes until one year, maybe a decade or two before the 74th games, he gets a pair who don't seem promising but are good natured and likeable. Haymitch does not bother to negotiate them any sponsors, one of the pair make it to the final battle only to die as a result of Haymitch's lack of sponsorship. The guilt near finishes him off. I don't think it should end on a depressing note though. Maybe a relevatory one or a hopeful one. Maybe he sticks it to the capitol in some way by continuing to exist. I also don't think it should end around the 74th reaping. Movie should only span during his like 20's.
I feel like this era of movies, with The Lone Ranger, Alice in Wonderland and Oz the Great and Powerful all were great but were movies that were better as one offs than having franchises and sequels. Their quality is questionable but I do think they have their own charm to them. I do wish this kind of cinematography would come back because even if its poor quality, it has character.
great review :)
1986? Dont you mean 1886? I'm sorry I was alive in 1986 and movies definitely didn't look like that
@@reporeport Yes, kinda. I meant to say 1896, I missed that error in editing! Apologies.
Wow you must be fun at parties.
