I think my favourite approach to retirement is Hayao Miyazaki’s. The man has “retired” multiple times yet he’s still making movies now and I know people like to joke about this but I think it’s a clever strategy. You’re not always going to have ideas for stories to tell and if you have no ideas at that moment, it makes sense to retire as a way to avoid pressuring yourself into continuing when you don’t have the same spark. However, if you later come up with a story which you think is worth telling, you can come back to tell that story before leaving again until the next story comes to you. That’s what Miyazaki does. His process allows him to only tell the stories that he wants to tell and thus gives him more freedom and less pressure to continue when he doesn’t want to
I love how Miyazaki goes on the press tour for every film saying it's his last, just for him to start up immediately again when his film hits theaters. Biggest liar in animation, I respect it
Yeah I agree 100%. Though I'm fine with what Tarantino doing the 10 movie thing I still view him as a little gremlin with what he wants to do. He's a talented guy and to limit yourself like that kinda sucks. But to each their own.
Shayamalan should most def have stopped at 10 💀. But happy somebody else also gets that this 10 movie stuff Tarantino is pulling is silly, but its his decision anyway .
Tarantino puts way too much pressure on himself. I do think about when should an artist retire when it comes to music. Like a rapper like Eminem still puts out music despite the fact he's never gonna make anything as good as his early work that being said I always download his albums. No matter what people are going to see a Tarantino movie and I honestly can't see him doing anything else but making movies.
@@Infinite_Repeat Tarantino has spoke extensively about moving into the TV space which is a cop out, really but I think he's too young to just stop and be satisfied. I have no doubt he'll come back after 'retiring'.

He has a silly view on film which has put this self-imposed limitation on his work which is so baby-ish. Grow up and make movies

My hot take: Tarantino has never been a great filmmaker. He’s too wrapped up in gimmick, schtick, and irony to deliver great art
@@KayButtonJay To an extent, I agree
