Monitor Lizard in Agumbe
Staying in a cottage in the rainforest, especially during the monsoon, feels like being in the midst of action every moment of the day. Over the years, I have seen several adult monitor lizards in Agumbe, but this is the first time I've encountered a juvenile right outside my cottage.
Monitor lizards are formidable predators, and in this region, they are known to raid king cobra nests and feed on their eggs.

Hey guys, it's officially King Cobra season here in Agumbe which means that we are getting a lot of rescue calls from the community members. We got this rescue call last night. This individual was beautiful and magnificent. I also loved how feisty and full of personality he was!

We got a call for King Cobra rescue during our annual King Cobra Bionomics Workshop and the participants had an opportunity to witness the rescue of a big, male King Cobra that was resting inside a shed. King Cobras often wander out in search for food and a mate during this season. The king is now safely rescued and released back into the wild.

I've done a lot of rescues over the years, but this was probably one of the simplest rescues I've ever done, all thanks to the locals at the Ellimani village. The locals were well equipped and had the knowledge with proper snake handling techniques which made our job super easy. It was a pleasure meeting them. You say its not largest ? How many kings have you seen? I can make out you are a big fan of your one man army...sorry to say...I study and rescue these snakes, your one man army harasses them, its not called rescue. Him catching the king without using any stick is stupidity, I call that suicidal.

This is one of the most intelligent snake of all the snakes it never try to harm humans even if provoked most of the time unlike other snakes are short tempered. We need to protect this creature I once visited to Agumbe rainforest research station there I learnt about this snake.
