Giant King Cobra rescue in Malnad

King cobras a revered in the Malenadu region*. People here are highly tolerant towards King Cobras.
Since morning this family observed a king cobra basking on their roof and moving near their house, but when it settled in a burrow right next to their house, they sought our help to remove it and release it back to the wild.
This is when we at the Kalinga Foundation stepped in. In typical situations, a snake in a burrow is left to itself to leave when it pleases, but this situation demanded a more proactive approach as the burrow was right next to their house and we could see the snake coiled in.
We had to take action to keep their confidence, help them get on with their daily tasks, and strengthen their resolve to continue to conserve these snakes.
