Outstanding! Seems to me Rinkhals are an exemplar of convergent evolution. The spitting and hooding of true cobras, the keeled scales of many aquatic frog/fish eaters, the play-dead act broadly distributed among species, and to me the most profound, is the similarity to the Eastern Hognose snake of North America. That species shares, diet, play-dead, hooding, and keeled scales, and an upturned snout, albeit that feature is subtle in Rinkhals. Put all that together with the snakes beauty and the spectacular habitat it thrives in, and that makes it my favorite snake! :)
Stunning film work as always. I ❤ these snakes. So beautiful and at the same time a bit comical (but dangerous). Funny to watch how they play dead and also when they look like they’re almost falling over when they spit. So many differences in how the individual snakes are coloured. One of my very favorite species.
You are absolutely right that Rinkhals are funny when they play dead and their behavior is so complex! We love how colorful some of them are 🙂 Thanks for watching!
Easily my favorite cobra species even though they aren’t true cobras. I just love their color and patterns. The best reptile species seem to all come from Africa definitely my top favorite place in the world. Thanks for sharing this video definitely enjoyed watching and learning few new things. Keep up the great work just stay safe and have fun you two 🙋♂️✌️
The rinkhals are dangerous but hilarious because of the way they play dead. Another great video that explained the many differences between the rinkhals and true cobra.
Always loved this species. I recently went herping on a trip to Singapore and found Multiple Blue coral snakes. You guys should totally film that species!
Thanks for watching! Hey, we are searching for locations in Thailand/Malaysia/Singapore where we would be able to find and film the Blue Malayan coral snake! Could you send us more info and locations (if you are willing of course) to livingzoology@gmail.com please???
As i have said before i am not a big fan of snakes but i have always found this specie's to be my favorite. They have a mystery behind them and i love how black their heads and eyes are even seen one of you all reflection from its eyes. You dont have to like or love snakes to admire and respect them and if you really think about it most encounters with snakes are our own fault taken their habitat away to the point they have no choice but to live nears us. Remember if you like snakes or not there's no need to mess with or kill them just like us they want to be left alone and go about their day and do the job they were born to do. As always a great documentary would love to see your work on some kind of streaming platform you all deserve for your work to been seen by millions and educate future generations.
Well said! The most important idea is that even if you don’t love snakes you can still respect them 🙂 Thank you for wishing us to reach a much bigger audience! 🙏

You ppl call it "A ring necked spitting Cobra", while at the same time you deny that it belongs to the Cobra family, so how do trust you if I may ask just in good faith?
The King cobra is also not a true cobra (genus Naja) and it is called cobra. Read the information in the video carefully and you will understand everything.
Quite a striking "death noodle". Just like King Cobras, who are also not true cobras but a species unto themselves. May look funny when they spit venom but I'll pass on a spitting contest with one. Are they as accurate as true spitting cobras? Or do they spit and then say, "missed you by that much!"
I grew up in South Africa and the part about them not being a true cobra is nonsense. They are a variety of Spitting Cobra. I do not understand how anyone can say that they are not. They have the hood and they spit venom.
The hood is not what defines a cobra. It's a matter of biology. Genetics. A hyena looks like a dog, but is in fact more related to cats. Hippos are related to whales and dolphins. Looks are not what defines.
This channels footage is absolutely gorgeous everytime! 🐍
It’s splendid, isn’t it? It’s always all about the animal, not the humans. The video and audio are both superb.
Glad you enjoy watching our content! 🙂
Our goal was always to primarily show the animals, not us 🙂
Thanks again for this nice video. You are the best snake channel.
Wow, thanks a lot! We really appreciate it!

Yes, the Rinkhals has some similar traits to other snakes! It is a stunning species 🙂

Amazing research analysis.
Thank you for watching!
What a striking looking snake!
Thanks for watching! It is!
So cool! How do you do it? Incredible pics!
Thank you so much! We put lot of effort into filming snakes, great that you like the results! 🙂
Awesome video. Beautiful snake. The banded variant resembles the “Western Barred Spitting Cobra” (Naja nigricincta nigricincta) from southwest Angola and northern Namibia.
Thank you! Yes, banded Rinkhals resemble a bit the Zebra spitting cobra 🙂
The rinkhals are dangerous but hilarious because of the way they play dead. Another great video that explained the many differences between the rinkhals and true cobra.

Cottonmouths were featured in our last episode of On the trail of a snake 🙂
Superb job❤❤❤❤
Beautiful and charismatic animal.
It really is! Thanks for watching.

Thank you!! 😊
Another amazing Video! thank you again, their antics were hilarious the clowns of the snake world for sure

My favorite snake on the entire planet and that will never change. My absolute dream species to keep. Thanks for the information on them.
Very welcome!
Ty! Did you see the video of the man getting bit by a Twig Snake recently?
Yes, we saw it! 😮
Very beautiful snake... dazzling warning colouration; especially with the orange red on black. Interesting how it slithers with its hood still out
We agree, this species is very beautiful! When it slithers with its hood it tries to warn us from coming too close.
Thanks for featuring this most interesting snake - and explaining why it isn't a true cobra...such a unique species
Very welcome! We are happy that you love our video!
Just awesome ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you! 🙏🙏🙏
I know about this snake.its a good actor.,Am i right?😊...this snake is my childhood memory...And i love this snake❤🐍
Yes, very good actor! 😀
Damn I totally missed the premier. Great job anyways.
Absolutely stunningly beautiful species of snake. I have suddenly become very fascinated with this breed.
Very cool that you love this species! Thank you for watching!
Thank you great information on Rinkhals I always thought it was a species of cobra
Great that you love our video! Thanks for watching!

Might have less toxic venom!
But what a strikingly beautiful specimen from God!

Alwaya love a good Rinkhals ! Perhaps a "proto cobra?"
Thanks for watching! Proto cobra is a good way to describe the species actually!
Rinkhals are super cute
They also emit a rather nauseous stink when they play dead...it takes weeks to get that smell out of your nostrils...
They don’t necessarily musk every time when they play dead, we actually never smelled anything bad while filming them playing dead!
Please turn down the Hadeda sound channel 😂 - it gives me PTSD.
It is part of the natural soundscape! 😀
Highveld Roosters...
Beautiful species !
We think so too! The banded individuals are amazing!
Beautiful snake.
We agree, thank you for watching!
Just came across one in our garden in South Africa - it killed our dog . Scary sight .
Cool😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

What an amazing serpent, 🤘
Yes, indeed! Thanks for watching!
Certain specimens are amongst the most colourful elapid like the african Aspidelaps lubircus, the Naja pallida and the gold variation of Naja nivea.
Thank you for watching! 🙂 Yes, same Rinkhals are amazingly colorful!
My computer screen is as close as I want to get!
Haha, thanks for watching!
The snake Seems like a paid actor.
???
This snake spits, almost never bites people, cape cobra doesn't spit, won't hesitate to bite!! Both snakes are in South Africa!!
Beautiful cobra ❤
Thank you! 😊
is this beautiful Cobra 🐍 ❤
Yes, it is!
amazing
Thank you! Cheers!
The bird in background sounds like a peacock but I know we don't have peacocks that are wild in africa 😮
Or is it a jackdaw
You probably mean the Hadada ibis 🙂
@@LivingZoology Thanks. I thought it was some kind of jackdaw
Keep videos coming👌😎

The morphological differences are explained in the video and there is genetic evidence too.
The King Cobra is not a Cobra.

@rickjason215 really? Says who?
Not a true cobra that is hilarious because it definitely looks and spits like one,😂😂😂😂😂!
It usually spits in a different way than true cobras! Check how it throws its body towards the direction of spitting.
