Sayori make me understand myself better , cause i literally was just like her , but when i see she doing her best against the struggle it's inspire me to do my best to do the same.

Natsuki is like a cat. You need to spend a lot of time with her for her to warm up to you. Which not a lot of people seem to be a fan of. As, in my experience, people opt for dogs, who don't seem to need as much time. ... You need to gain a cat's trust. Like with Natsuki. Idk, this just came to my head.

I love Sayori, I love her quirks and kind nature, I love her personality and her hair, I love how she acts and how she cares for others. I love her plushies, and her energy. I love the bow in her hair, her smile too. I love her poems, and how she treats her friends, I love who she is. I love Sayori

Sayori was a comfort for a short time and means alot to me (as far as a video game character does I guess)

I might just be in tears. I've been a major DDLC fan since like 2018, and found it again during 2021 (it actually helped me through a lot of my own issues from the lockdown) but in every playthrough I watched, and every fan blog I saw at the time, Natsuki was always seen at face values and then tossed away, and it hurt SO MUCH as someone who related to her so deeply. I'm not nearly as strong as Natsuki is, even after being through a much much lesser degree of the same stuff, so she's a major inspiration to me on top of being highly relatable. Her poems are HANDS DOWN my absolute favorites in the game, contended exclusively by Bottles, from Sayori. Anyways, im just extremely grateful that there's people out there who see and understand her as well as I do, and value her as a character despite her outward abrasiveness <3

To me MC has the same problem Chara and frisk have in undertale, WE the player refuse to acknowledge ourselfs in the gameplay, deciding to blame the mirror protagonist for the things that transpire despite them not having the autonomy to actually do the things we blame them for

This is the first time I've heard about what happens when you friend-zone sayori, I thought it played the same scene as when you told her you loved her. To find out she breaks down on the floor screaming and crying, I feel so bad.

Ok hear me out mates,it might sound a bit too hard to believe, but I’m (emphasis on the present tense) only ninth grade and I can relate to Yuri’s situation a lot. I might not a reader, I don’t even know if I have depression nor social anxiety, but about the belief of ruining my own relationships, anxiety when talking to other, heck even the mental breakdown, relying on an unhealthy coping mechanism (In my case, I used to use…P) to calm myself, trying to suppress my own emotions in public and never want to let it out publicly, … I all felt it, even now, after 2 years of changing myself, I still cannot let go of those habit (except for the p stuff) and as I’m seeing now, it is getting worse. I’m really sad when I see Yuri like this, quite reminding me about myself. That’s why she is my top favorite character in every game. I don’t know why she is hated in the community. Last words before I go, I know I’m really young and I shouldn’t feel these things, even I don’t want this; it is just because I’m mature and aware about my surroundings better than my peers. I don’t believe in God, but I think He is trying to set me up through these hardships really soon for something greater… I hope those tears I shed, blood that I dropped, night that I couldn’t sleep, kys thoughts and hits that I withstand both mentally and physically, will someday worth it.

This is why natsuki is the best girl, she can play those drums like there's no tomorrow (really though i think this is amazing good job to everyone who worked on it)

The second paragraph is safe to read though To be honest pretty early in the game I realised that she might have depression. As someone who's childhood was filled with trauma after more trauma repeatedly, with no end in sight. If I went to school I was physically and emotionally bullied, but when I went home I had to deal with my narcasistic abusive father. I never had a safe place, I was constantly worried because I didnt know what was going to hurt me nect and when. The anxiety, dread, and slef-blame was always a constsmt in my brain. Though on top of that I got a nervous system issue called CRPS (where no matter what you do or if you take medicine for the pain it's always there. Since its in my left knee everytime I stand up and put preasure on that leg, have to bend it, and walk my pain would increase tenfold. I was sorounded by physical and emotional pain and frankly I knew nothing else. Despite everything I wanted to be the one to make others happy and feel supported beacuse I never wanted anyone to suffer what I went through. I showed the kindness and understand I never got. To make matters worse my father doesnt believe in mental health or nervous sytem issues so he saw me as a pathetic failure making him look bad. My mom (who was the only one who loved, supported, and protected. Being my one and only friend for years) me would get inbetween my father and I defending my knee issues. When she did so my father got angry at her and would end up threating and physically hurtinh my mom right in front of me. No matter what I did I couldnt look away from the fact that my mother had to go through all that pain because of my knee issues. Due to all that I carry such a deep feeling of guilt, self-hatred, and shame for being a burden and always making everything worse. After years of that it's no surprise that my depression got severley bad, but I wont go into those details to much in case it's a triggering subject to anyone else. So I personally related to Sayori on such a deep level that it was like looking into a mirror. Which is why she's my favorite character

I mean,if sayori's death wasn't in the script...MC still reacted to it in a grief and despair, but in act 2, he just doesn't react to anything anymore, like he lost his free will.😢

Don't you just love how the MC is demonized for unintentionally saying potentially hurtful things to his secretly depressed friend but then giving Monika nothing more than a slap on the wrist for deliberately making the depression of her close friend worse for selfish reasons? Don't you just love double standards?

I think something very important that people should remember when criticizing the protag's words and actions, is that he's canonically about 16 to 18 years old. Ofc he doesn't know how to help his friends, no average 16-18 year old would, even if they think they can. The fact that he spends the whole game trying already says a lot about his empathy.

I think on the whole for me personally it feels WRONG for me to JUST see him as a blank slate or a self insertion when through my time of playing games I went on to do that less and less due to how people were dismissing any signs of character the protagonist has. Hell, MC as I usually call him is kinda the reason I look for official names to put on all other self inserts due to him just not having an official name at all and why I try to put other self insert’s dialogue as close to what I feel their official personality to be like. It’s why I keep wanting to insist that he’s not JUST a self insert or that his character is NOT ONLY that and that there is a through line with his actions and attitudes to be made. I personally see the message as the same but on a more individual level and that it’s more a personal tragedy than a message to us. It makes me sad he didn’t get any side stories or was even included in that at all.

13:10 AW MAN! It feels like you didn’t cover everything! During the Sayori route he seems oddly insistent on others not misunderstanding their relationship when he reflectively comments against the notion when it isn’t necessary. Adds to Sayori’s route in particular. Notes a character trait of hiding some of his feelings not only from others but in this case himself as well. There’s also the smaller trait that comes up in Sayori’s death scene that was foreshadowed earlier, that being his habit to take responsibility for when she gets hurt. Also as said earlier in most instances him “teasing” is usually unintentional, like with the Natsuki line you mentioned earlier. He says he underestimated her, she interrogates, and then he backs down like it was a misunderstanding. There’s another scene that showcases this that I don’t remember but it’ll come back to me eventually.

3:02 The thing about this is reading back the dialogue the “teasing” is usually not intentional on his part. I know you’ll connect the dots later but I just want to bring it up.

2:07 The “issue” with this intent is… It just makes him have varied dynamics. It doesn’t make him seem inconsistent due it most of these lines falling in place with his usual characterization outside of these moments.
