Hey, you look nice today! ✨ How many names for the protagonist did you see and what were they? 👀 Oh and remember to share your thoughts on MC! Hope you liked the edits! 🤯 Thank you all for being here and have a good day! ...or else 🤍
Haven't really seen anyone give him a serious name that isn't just MC, but I like giving him a unique one myself. I like calling him Haruto. It’s a very common Japanese boy name, just like how MC is written as a typical dating sim protagonist, but the name means sunlight which is what he is to Sayori and to an extent the other girls as well. I think it fits him well.
The protagonist gets a lot of unnecessary hate because people think he said the "wrong" things to Sayori when she was depressed, when that never made her feel worse
maybe she didn't feel worse during that but I sure did lol, squirming in my seat going "wtf is he saying to this depressed person, this can't end up going over well" and then it ended up not going well
@aguyontheinternet8436 However it be annoying when people act like he's a monster for it and pretend they haven't said the wrong things in their lifes at some point
The thing that makes MC look bad is he never got any redemption arc or anything. Monika had it in act 4, natsuki had it near the end of act 2, Sayori and Yuri were victims. But MC was just being controlled by us and the script. Breaking the script, breaks MC. That's why you notice him not saying anything in the second half of act 2. People saying he's emotionless doesn't remember how he reacted to Sayori's death. Sayori's depression was incurable, because it's chronic, and monika made it worse to keep her away from MC. Like literally Monika's entire goal was to keep the girls away from MC, but the game itself did not allow her. MC is the biggest victim of DDLC and I am tired of people blaming him for the stuff that happened.
@aahiljcat It's also because his development got cut in half the moment act 1 ended. I always felt like MC was screwed in the writing department, especially when the game is so predicated on characters being more than their archetypes.
Not only is MC just as much of a Doki as everyone else is and deserves to be seen as such, he's also arguably more of a tortured soul than Monika is. Monika realizes she is all alone in a world she shouldn't be in, one that's fake. She created MC (presumably alongside Ive Laster using beta elements) to help her communicate with the world she longs for. But MC? He was effectively born to be a tool. Literally, you could apply so much genuinely harmful rhetoric to MC because he really does fulfill it. He has a personality, goals, ambitions, his own level of intellect, and yet he's nothing more than a puppet. A puppet, which, mind you, has really done nothing wrong and yet can never be allowed to be happy. Oh! And people wanna say that he damaged the club like he even had a choice to join. Sayori blackmails him into joining initially, and the girls all guilt trip him into staying as a member. He came so close, so agonizingly close to actual happiness. He went from a bitter NEET in the making to a genuinely supportive member of the club with new ambitions and a new hobby. He was going to better himself for these girls and not live the life of isolated misery that Monika programmed him to have (or at least didn't bother to improve in any way). But DDLC Plus and Acts 2+3 both confirm in their own way that MC was never allowed to be happy. Acts 2+3 basically show that Monika only ever saw MC as a means to an end. She lobotomized a living being in her world and used it to flirt with someone she doesn't even know. If that was it, well, okay, all the other girls are actually dead, so at least they all get somewhat equal treatment. But this only gets worse in DDLC+. Monika and everyone else got their happy ending in the Side Stories world. They all had a chance to be happy. But MC? It's implied he's in the anime club, but let's be real, he's doomed. He's doomed to just become a NEET, forever isolated in his home, to die alone and without friends. Those girls really matter to MC, and the poor guy is just never going to be happy without someone like them to encourage him to break out of his shell. MC got done so incredibly dirty. He deserves better, both from the game and from the fans. He's just a reclusive 18 year old boy who tries his best when given a chance. He was forced to join a situation that benefited everybody involved and had it all taken away from him by Monika's whims. He may not always say the right thing or do the best option, but he's really not a malicious soul. Justice for this man. He deserves to be on par with everybody else.
Well MC does show development and it varies from what route you go down but he always circles back to Sayori and cares deeply about her, Sure he uses poor choice words but he isn't the only one He wants to help Sayori he just doesn't know how to help her he even almost willingly canceled his plans to help Sayori much better friend than Monika was, Just sad the fans don't get his character he has a personally and does care about Sayori he's just shy for the most part and slowly grows! It's just that no one really understands him
@animebro14 And THIS is why I wish we had more MC content. While he was only something Monika created, I still want to see more of him. Maybe I should start playing mods. Anyways, love this comment and analysis
The most misunderstood character in the whole game While he does have a poor choice of words time to time he tries his hardest to help Sayori even when on Yuri or Natsuki route he tries to help her out and stop being critical when finding out Sayori had depression And MC has the most powerful line (Screw the literature club, Screw the festival, I lost my best friend) And no matter which choice you choose MC blames her death on himself which makes it even sadder because it wasn't his fault it was Monikas Yeah MC could have done more to help but knowing how some people are he may be one of those people that are unsure how to help. I've been I Sayori's place before and a friend didn't know how to help me I understand why he's least favorited but he's definitely underrated and the whole point of his character is to develop in the club that is his story and it all links back to his friend Sayori the one he truly cares for
@@Midori-Chan-t2k But regardless it all verts back to Sayori and he even admits he is thankful that Sayori had him join the literature club Like I said he attempts to support Sayori it's just he was unsure what to do to help. He even almost canceled his weekend plans to be with her
You worded this beautifully. A lot of people don't understand that we will be someone's MC at some point. Someone who is desperate to help someone, to understand them, but doesn't know how. Because they don't know the right words, or they can't relate. I never saw his actions as malicious. His reaction to Sayori's death, which wasnt supposed to exist in the game at all, proves how much he cares, how hard he's trying. As a socially awkward person who is bad at talking to people irl, I understand him a lot. The people who blame MC for Sayori's death are truly awful, because she would NEVER want to make her best friend feel bad, she would NEVER blame her actions or feelings onto him. And nobody deserves the guilt that he had, nobody deserves to see their best friend dead right in front of them. Does MC say some blunt and rude things from time time? Sure, but we all do. You can see that by interacting with the other girls (especially Sayori,) he learns to be kinder, he understands the weight his words have and he's trying to be a better person. That's very admirable. The second day on the Natsuki route where she gives MC such a hard time, only to end up breaking down crying and he doesn't say "I told you so" or anything of the sort. He doesn't act bitter, he can see that her actions have a deeper meaning and he helps her through it. That's probably one of my favorite moments in the entire game. Sorry for the rant lol, I just think you made a lovely comment and have to contribute :3
Sometimes I worry about that happening, where I say something wrong and hurt the person I'm trying to help. MC's blunders illustrate that in a beautiful, but ultimately horrifying way.
I mean,if sayori's death wasn't in the script...MC still reacted to it in a grief and despair, but in act 2, he just doesn't react to anything anymore, like he lost his free will.😢
That’s kinda been my big gripe with the “MC broke because of the script” explanation some fans give. It just isn’t consistently applicable as seen with his final line in act two being “sure, I don’t care” which shows some level of reaction.
Has anyone considered the possibility that the reason the mc acts differently around different girls is because he’s human. People change their behavior around different people more times than you might think. I think he’s acts tough around Nastuki because she always acts tough and acts soft because he knows that Yuri is sensitive. Of course he’s all shy when Monika around since she’s implied to be the most popular girl in school and Soyuri is his childhood friend so of course he’s going to act a lot more mean to her because that’s just how some people act around their best friend. (Sorry if I missed spelled the girls names)
FINALLY !! AN OFFICIAL DDLC MC VIDEO!!! Never saw him as an asshole personally, even though Dan Salvato wrote him to just be that guy that says the right thing at the right time.. I find him to be really patient, kind and understanding No one is perfect, and that's also his case I think Also a lot of people act differently depending who they are talking to ?? Before Dan Salvato streamed the entire game and talked about the protagonist I aleays thought it was a similar case Edit: thank you for the likes omg +-+ I thought it was a hot take, but I guess I'm wrong-
I’ve said this before to many different people, but I believe that MC is just as much a victim as everyone else. He had to suffer watching the only friends he’s made in literal years die horrible deaths without knowing why. I don’t think he ever got to find out the truth either, since I’m pretty sure he also dies at the end of Act 2. Being stuck in one spot for 3 whole days without any water is fatal (not to mention a slow and painful way to die), plus we don’t see him talking or even thinking in Act 3 IIRC. Also, MC haters really expected a recovering loner/socially awkward teenage boy to know how to properly comfort a heavily suicidal teenage girl? Bullshit. Justice for MC
Awesome video! I always enjoy your thoughts and analysis! The MC is a tragic character to me because he’s just… under-equipped to help his friends. He’s a stereotypical teenage boy who finds himself WAY in over his head, and doesn’t realize how out of his depth he truly is. It always struck me how the MC blames himself for Sayori’s death no matter how you choose to respond to her confession. He thinks (or tells himself) he could have changed something, yet the player knows otherwise. I’m pretty sure he calls himself selfish in both cases, and it hits me hard.
It’s a nice “Checkov’s gun” moment for something Sayori mentions in the second day of her route. He tends to take responsibility for when she gets hurt even if it isn’t his fault with this being the ultimate example of this.
I think something very important that people should remember when criticizing the protag's words and actions, is that he's canonically about 16 to 18 years old. Ofc he doesn't know how to help his friends, no average 16-18 year old would, even if they think they can. The fact that he spends the whole game trying already says a lot about his empathy.
This is the first time I've heard about what happens when you friend-zone sayori, I thought it played the same scene as when you told her you loved her. To find out she breaks down on the floor screaming and crying, I feel so bad.
I like the official concept art of him. He was cool for the most part except how he talked to Sayori. Surprisingly enough, I feel the same way about him as I did before this video. He's okay.
He finally did it. He made the MC video. RUclips hasn't been giving me notifications about your content, so I had to keep checking back, waiting for it to come. And it finally has. So... Mr. Cow video when?
13:10 AW MAN! It feels like you didn’t cover everything! During the Sayori route he seems oddly insistent on others not misunderstanding their relationship when he reflectively comments against the notion when it isn’t necessary. Adds to Sayori’s route in particular. Notes a character trait of hiding some of his feelings not only from others but in this case himself as well. There’s also the smaller trait that comes up in Sayori’s death scene that was foreshadowed earlier, that being his habit to take responsibility for when she gets hurt. Also as said earlier in most instances him “teasing” is usually unintentional, like with the Natsuki line you mentioned earlier. He says he underestimated her, she interrogates, and then he backs down like it was a misunderstanding. There’s another scene that showcases this that I don’t remember but it’ll come back to me eventually.
Don't you just love how the MC is demonized for unintentionally saying potentially hurtful things to his secretly depressed friend but then giving Monika nothing more than a slap on the wrist for deliberately making the depression of her close friend worse for selfish reasons? Don't you just love double standards?
@@Firebender554 I think most people demonize Monika far more than MC. And often either way, they usually don't fully understand the story and characters.
@@_thejuicebox Well, that's just been my experience as a casual member of the DDLC fandom. I've seen MC hate more than I've seen Monika hate. I haven't been here that long though so I’ll believe you about the Monika hate.
@@_thejuicebox The reasons for demonizing MC are far more unreasonable than the reasons to demonize Monika even if both are unhelpful simplifications of both characters. In terms of popularity Monika wins out but in terms of severity I think MC takes the cake.
@@Firebender554 She is certainly hated by some (I was one of those people) and I can see why even if its unjustified, but with MC while I can see why but don’t understand its extremity for some. I have genuinely seen a tweet where someone says MC should just kill himself to let the girls be happy. I have also seen horribly uncharitable interpretations of some lines that paint him as “sleazy”. Ever seen someone take “Perhaps I’ll get to know these girls.” And turn it into “I wonder if I can make them mine.”?
It's amazing how you can see all this from the MC! Like you said, he's like a blank portrait that's being painted in one way or another depending from the character he's talking with; I don't know if that can count in 'personality', but I guess so. It can represent us very well in the way that he doesn't know how to act when the things get complicated with the girls, after all, those situations aren't teached in school, it's a shame. It's a very good message that you left in the end, thank you, really. The edition is very awesome and neat! Take care, Juice. Just Monika 💚
I think a lot of people miss the fact that the protagonist is supposed to be a teenage boy. Of course he doesn’t know what to say or how to handle Sayori’s confessions. His actions are incredibly realistic for someone who doesn’t understand mental illness but still desperately wants to help. This is emphasized in the dialogue after Sayori’s death. He cares, but he doesn’t know how to help, and then it’s too late.
Yaaayyyyy new Juice analysis!!! That intro looks incredible, your editing and humor in this video were really on point! I've been waiting so very long for someone to talk about the ddlc mc in such depth. I'm so glad that you can point out how mc's teasing of sayori can go too far and that he didn't know how to handle her depression well, while also still acknowledging that he cared for her very much and in the end, he was just a teenage boy who had never dealt with these kinds of serious mental health problems before. Some fans tend to talk about him in extremes, but i knew i could trust you to come at it with a more balanced perspective! The way he molds aspects of his personality to the other girls is interesting. I obviously knew that he was going out of his way to impress them since it's that type of game, but i hadn't really noticed stuff like that metaphor he uses with yuri! And i like that you acknowledge that he does have some consistent personality traits across routes :) To answer some of the questions you asked in the vid, my opinion of the mc is mostly in the middle, leaning slightly positive. Like i noted earlier, he sometimes says some kinda shitty stuff but i don't think he's a bad guy. My favorite thing about him is the horror of watching him go from a distinct character who thinks and reacts and makes choices based on the circumstances to an empty shell with no free will over the course of Act 2. It drives home the destruction of the "typical dating sim" atmosphere, and makes the player feel even more like a helpless victim of monika's whims. And i like his official concept art, i think it captures his vibe really well! But the juice version is cute too, of course! Another great video, as always!!
3:02 The thing about this is reading back the dialogue the “teasing” is usually not intentional on his part. I know you’ll connect the dots later but I just want to bring it up.
I remember in the DDLC anniversary covid relief stream in the QNA section Dan went on record to give his end all be all statement on MC. he’s essentially like he said just a blank slate with absolutely zero personality and even said he dislikes the MC but is fine with the fans giving him their own character. I feel stupidly guilty though, because I was the person who asked that question Dan answered and as a result it’s like I helped kill MC as a character when I actually did like what character he did show beforehand, I was just genuinely curious on why Dan said he disliked him, and accidentally helped Dan delete his nonexistent character file for lack of a better term. I’m no better then Monika 😅
Damn, it sucks to have the on your record. It was gonna come out one way or another but being the cause of what I personally see is a massive era of uncritical acceptance that MC has no character must suck as someone who LIKES the character.
@@thefrubblewarrior4678 worst part is I wouldn’t say it was uncritical. There was a bunch of fighting in the community I saw between people who liked MC too and disliked this and those who didn’t really care and accepted this. Even recently every time I see a post about MC there’s always the one guy who says he isn’t a character and people start fighting again, it’s the only major thing I ever see DDLC fans argue about anymore aside from ships (which there’s some of those like sayonika I vehemently disagree with and could rant about for a long time) and that isn’t exactly fun either.
@@Crackedcripple I guess the whole Monika debacle was an early fandom thing if that’s the only two. I don’t know much about the ship discourse other than MCSayo shippers hate Sayonika and vise versa. It’s not an absolute but its common enough that it’s something I picked up on. Also I was probably one of those people since I came into the fandom during that era.
It may used our names, be it taught us to be like more understanding with the characters, and how it is. And I like how we basically met the Dokis and their personality, and I love Natsuki as the character although she’s my favorite although I was brave from those creepy moments.
I love how this game is getting pretty old yet people are still talking about it and making theories. The only other games that I’ve seen do that are Oneshot, rain world, and hollow knight
2:07 The “issue” with this intent is… It just makes him have varied dynamics. It doesn’t make him seem inconsistent due it most of these lines falling in place with his usual characterization outside of these moments.
I literally watched all the other episodes on like Monday, and one of the videos they said something about an mc video, I checked and it wasn’t out yet and it had been months since the last episode, and then I read the community post and saw that it was come out this Friday. Stuff like this always be happening to me and I’ll never not love it!
Hey man, thank you for still making DDLC vids in 2024. This game has meant a lot to me ever since I stumbled upon it in 2020, and it’s rare to come by new content for it! I also really love all the quirks in your editing like the funny text boxes or little audio clips :)
To me MC has the same problem Chara and frisk have in undertale, WE the player refuse to acknowledge ourselfs in the gameplay, deciding to blame the mirror protagonist for the things that transpire despite them not having the autonomy to actually do the things we blame them for
Not quite one to one. The things that MC says are not really controlled that much by the player and all the stuff people give him grief for is usually said without prompt.
9:09 Thinking about this from MC’s perspective… I can see where it’s coming from. For someone who feeling are often against themselves he tries to place himself as know who knows how she feels…
Yo, I actually follow your channel because of the ddlc content and how good they are. thanks for making another and making my day better, I appreciate it
Someone else said everything I wanted to, but there's one more layer to this than everyone thinks. The reason he doesn't understand depression: he has it, and his underachiever persona prevents him from trying to understand himself. Think about it. Why is he so much harsher at the start of the game? It's because he's at his breaking point, the last straw, that he acts rough to start. The game specifically points out how MC and Sayori were getting so close to separating, and it was Sayori who ended up pulling him back in with her little stunt. The reason he knows what to say to everyone else and not her is because their problems are more generic in his eyes, something he's had time to reflect on and think about. But Ive Laster and Monika's bastard love child over here never put any thought into himself and what he's going through, simply because he's designed to mirror Sayori. She's selfless, he's reliable. She tries to be the optimist, he tries to be the comforter. She knows she has a problem and doesn't understand how to fix it, he doesn't know his own issues because he's spent so long living only to fix everyone else's problems. MC is a noble man, which is a real shame when you look at the people who made him. Ive doesn't consider him a real person, and Monika only saw him as a means to an end. In addition to having far more depth than people realize, he also has way more issues than people assume and just think he's generically okay and mentally sound when he isn't.
I knew someone else would have the “MC has depression but has no idea” interpretation. Depression manifests itself in different ways and MC’s is to be crabby and distance himself from those who worry about him. The line about Sayori worrying too much about him felt like a reflection of her saying the same in a way. He tends to avoid self reflection for certain things like with why he’s so defensive to how some interpret his and Sayori’s dynamic as more romantic than it is to the point of shutting it down when Sayori might take his words as romantic.
Awesome video, Juice! I've honestly been on the side of "MC bad!", but this analysis really helped me see him in a new light. I still don't like him all that much, but seeing him as a placeholder to represent people not truly understanding mental health is something that I really like. Good job and have a fabulous day!
As one individual said "The reasons for demonizing MC are far more unreasonable than the reasons to demonize Monika even if both are unhelpful simplifications of both characters."
I really do agree and appreciate what he says about clinical depression because I do have it and I don’t really know what else to say but thanks 😊 have a good day everyone and I’m also here to talk about this stuff to help others
I think on the whole for me personally it feels WRONG for me to JUST see him as a blank slate or a self insertion when through my time of playing games I went on to do that less and less due to how people were dismissing any signs of character the protagonist has. Hell, MC as I usually call him is kinda the reason I look for official names to put on all other self inserts due to him just not having an official name at all and why I try to put other self insert’s dialogue as close to what I feel their official personality to be like. It’s why I keep wanting to insist that he’s not JUST a self insert or that his character is NOT ONLY that and that there is a through line with his actions and attitudes to be made. I personally see the message as the same but on a more individual level and that it’s more a personal tragedy than a message to us. It makes me sad he didn’t get any side stories or was even included in that at all.
The doki doki purest mod is a great example of how much better MC could’ve handled the confession scene. I agree that it’s a hard situation. But his wording could’ve been a lot better
offtopic, but I love the style of editing on these videos with the whole computer background, clicking off, ect. so interactive and fun for my adhd brain
Great analysis. I don't dislike the main character, but he fails at being a self insert for me. He's sufficient though, and his own personality goes well with the story he's in.
reminds me of when people said CE master cheif has no personality. he does. people forget he even has dialogue, and don't take note of the body language.
Okay, so even MC got his own video. Seems that's all of the characters. Now, i kinda used to believe that he was generic at first. But so am i, and at the same time, still have many different personalities. He appears to be just like me. I guess people usually forget about him as he's meant to be us and we rarely see how he looks like. (IF he even have a canon appearance?) And idk how many have him as their favorite character, but... He's not bad. I honestly expected him to choose an option more then just at specific times, such as when asked what he usually reads, i expected there to be some options. Yet, it instead already have him decide for himself and answering manga, so yes, he do have his own mind and personality, lol. I thought Sayori was going to be skipped being talked about because of Monika, but then she did come up suddenly, lol. Well, MC appears to be annoyed at Sayori at first, even if they're best friends. But he do regret being harsh to her later. I honestly forgot when he friendzoned her, causing her to break down crying. I usually remember when he confesses loving her as they hug. Tbh, he most likely didn't mean to make Sayori cry. Even i had moments when i said the wrong things, and i regret what i did. Oh, speaking of which, even if somebody most likely is joking about what they call me, i still feel down, just like Sayori. Another reason for me to relate to her even more. Since Sayori was the one he knew the most at first, i thought that she was depressed because she have this feeling that MC might choose one of her friends over herself. I think she is meant to be the canon love interest, but i think that i ship her with MC the most. (As for Yuri, i'd say she's mine.) MC do appear to find all of the girls attractive when first seeing them, so that made me believe that he might be a bit of a creep. But i honestly don't see that in him, at all. Well, i also like video games and anime, yet, i guess i'm not the type to express myself, if that is what MC is meant to be like... Then i'm totally like him, lol. (I releate the most to Sayori and Yuri, tho.) Seeing also how Monika later is JUST talking to us, as MC was just a character anyways and we don't rlly say anything during that, yeah, guess he is his own character. I kinda expected some choices that would decide his personality, but again, turns out that it already is so... Depending on which girl he talks to. I used to believe that in the bad ending, it was MC who was like: "Screw this, i'm outta here!" as i failed to notice that it actually was Monika who came outta nowhere. And yes, i believed MC to delete everything as it was all just a game, and he decided to stop playing it. But yes, that wasn't the case. But yup, I AM very much like MC then i thought. Guess he doesn't have a canon name, anyways? I also used to believe that some mods was part of the game (unless they are?) as i saw some stories where he gets to be with Yuri or Natsuki. If it was all just mods, then i honestly wish that the game was more extended. (Still haven't seen/played Plus, i know it's extended, btw.) He might not be my favorite character or be the first one i think of when it comes to the game, but i can say tho that i like him and understand him at times.
He's a guy that was thrown into situations he had no reason to have any knowledge on. Yeah, he says the wrong thing on occasion, but who doesn't? He just found himself in situations where saying the wrong thing just so happened to be seriously harmful. He's certainly not malicious, and I'm reluctant to even call him ignorant. He had no reason to think he would need the information relevant to the people he was dealing with, so why would he look for it? He genuinely cares for the others, especially Sayori, and that in itself says a lot. Yeah, he might call her annoying once or twice, but who doesn't sometimes think that of their friends? He well and truly tries to help, and being a recluse myself, I can tell you that can be REALLY hard sometimes. And to top it all off, he's forced into a HORROR GAME, and has no real control of his actions. He's not even allowed to leave when things get out of hand. Looking at him, I don't see some dumb teen or stereotypical protag. I see Kris Dreemurr, a teen that already has issues given a possible escape from those issues, only for them to be puppeteered through a total nightmare. With no voice to cry suffering. I do not hate him. I empathize with and pity him.
Hey!!! i watched a bunch of your doki doki videos and they're all so good! Also I just wanna say that the first time I heard "your reality" I thought "a pop punk cover of this song would kick SO MUCH ASS. Then I just happened to stumble upon your videos and YOU MADE ONE????? The cover is so good and everything I dreamed a cover of that song would be! You did such a spectacular job!! Edit: Also you'd kill it in voice acting!!
I recently got diagnosed with clinical depression a few weeks ago and it’s been so difficult. I’m taking medication for it and I’ve been struggling to approach how I talk to my best friend about it / if I should tell him the full extent of what I’m going through and I relate to Sayori’s struggles a lot. Thank you, Juice. I’ll check out the resources you linked in the description. Again, thank you. I hope you have an amazing Christmas. ❤️
2:21 So like the MC has a Chameleon personality ..? Since he can change his personality to the person he is talking to (Sorry for my bad English, and my bad explanation of the mc)
i love doki doki for the topic it deals with and can make you learn some useful stuff in the main game and side stories and i love your work juice box, to make us understand better the characters and even to help ppl that are dealing with depression to open up by putting the links to seek for professional help. With that beeing said thx for all the videos and you too look nice today!
What if we got a DDLC game where we continue after Sayori's death, leading MC to become depressed as he thinks he's the cause of her death. 11:11 Is it okay that I have Yuri and Sayori's problems, and used to have Natsuki's problem?
love your analysis videos on the characters, all of them have been so good i also feel the need to comment on the mother 3 figures in the background of these you have great taste in games
My favorite MC is the one from Fruits of the Literature Club. He was so cool, and I love how the Doki he picked saved him. That or the Doki Doki Takeover one. He has pretty good songs.
RUclips recommended me your channel a few weeks ago, and I’m so glad to have discovered you! Your videos are very well made, well written, well edited and of very good quality. But I have a question: Now that you have done an analysis on all the characters of DDLC, do you plan to stop video on DDLC or will you analyze the poems or stuff like that ? In any case I love your videos, keep it up!
Hey, you look nice today! ✨ Welcome aboard! While we're finished making character analysis videos for DDLC and focusing on other franchises (that I hope you'll check out, like the Sonic videos we have), we do plan on introducing a more laid back and freeform video format for discussion type videos. I wouldn't be opposed to continuing to talk about this game in those at some point!
In my opinion I think the official concept art for MC is better I do like what the community did with MC's sprite, but it's hard to believe the fanmade one pulled 4 different girls at the same time
Hey, you look nice today! ✨
How many names for the protagonist did you see and what were they? 👀
Oh and remember to share your thoughts on MC!
Hope you liked the edits! 🤯
Thank you all for being here and have a good day!

I always though he was just a self insert lol
Haven't really seen anyone give him a serious name that isn't just MC, but I like giving him a unique one myself. I like calling him Haruto. It’s a very common Japanese boy name, just like how MC is written as a typical dating sim protagonist, but the name means sunlight which is what he is to Sayori and to an extent the other girls as well. I think it fits him well.
The protagonist gets a lot of unnecessary hate because people think he said the "wrong" things to Sayori when she was depressed, when that never made her feel worse
Also people forgets that he's human and not a mind reader
maybe she didn't feel worse during that but I sure did lol, squirming in my seat going "wtf is he saying to this depressed person, this can't end up going over well"
and then it ended up not going well
@aguyontheinternet8436 However it be annoying when people act like he's a monster for it and pretend they haven't said the wrong things in their lifes at some point
Love this passion.
@_thejuicebox appreciate it, dude 😀.
Well MC does show development and it varies from what route you go down but he always circles back to Sayori and cares deeply about her, Sure he uses poor choice words but he isn't the only one
He wants to help Sayori he just doesn't know how to help her he even almost willingly canceled his plans to help Sayori much better friend than Monika was, Just sad the fans don't get his character he has a personally and does care about Sayori he's just shy for the most part and slowly grows! It's just that no one really understands him
@@animebro14 This comment is really gold. I would love to have this level of understandment in all the things. Very well, Anon. Take care 💚
@animebro14 And THIS is why I wish we had more MC content. While he was only something Monika created, I still want to see more of him. Maybe I should start playing mods. Anyways, love this comment and analysis
The most misunderstood character in the whole game
While he does have a poor choice of words time to time he tries his hardest to help Sayori even when on Yuri or Natsuki route he tries to help her out and stop being critical when finding out Sayori had depression
And MC has the most powerful line (Screw the literature club, Screw the festival, I lost my best friend)
And no matter which choice you choose MC blames her death on himself which makes it even sadder because it wasn't his fault it was Monikas
Yeah MC could have done more to help but knowing how some people are he may be one of those people that are unsure how to help. I've been I Sayori's place before and a friend didn't know how to help me
I understand why he's least favorited but he's definitely underrated and the whole point of his character is to develop in the club that is his story and it all links back to his friend Sayori the one he truly cares for
Even with MC not having much of an understanding he's still a better friend than Monika
@@EliRetroVHS642 yeah, even though it’s a game and we control him, he doesn’t read minds.
@@Midori-Chan-t2k But regardless it all verts back to Sayori and he even admits he is thankful that Sayori had him join the literature club
Like I said he attempts to support Sayori it's just he was unsure what to do to help. He even almost canceled his weekend plans to be with her
His name is Ive
I feel bad for MC because he genuinely cared and tried to help Sayori and just didn't know how
Sometimes I worry about that happening, where I say something wrong and hurt the person I'm trying to help.
@@thefrubblewarrior4678 you gave me a little thought, what if monika was controlling MC script? 😯
The mc is very reliable to me due to a lot of my friends suffering from something and I have no idea on what to do. I just end up listening to them.
very helpful thing to do tbh, your brain just thinks differently when it's thinking out loud
"whatever im gonna go back to watching k-on" mc canonically watching k-on now is now approved i love it
Has anyone considered the possibility that the reason the mc acts differently around different girls is because he’s human.
You talk to each member of your family differently and you don’t usually talk your friends the same way you do family and so on and so forth
@@thefrubblewarrior4678 I’ve done it before.
FINALLY !! AN OFFICIAL DDLC MC VIDEO!!!
Never saw him as an asshole personally, even though Dan Salvato wrote him to just be that guy that says the right thing at the right time.. I find him to be really patient, kind and understanding
No one is perfect, and that's also his case I think
Also a lot of people act differently depending who they are talking to ?? Before Dan Salvato streamed the entire game and talked about the protagonist I aleays thought it was a similar case
Edit: thank you for the likes omg +-+ I thought it was a hot take, but I guess I'm wrong-
Thank you for pointing that out. People act differently depending on who they’re talking to, that doesn’t make them inconsistent.
@thefrubblewarrior4678 it's weird when everyone in community acts like people don't do that IRL
People have an unrealistic expectation that MC's are supposed to know everything about everything because they're the protagonists.
It’s a thing you kinda think about and go “so that’s why him and Sayori connect so easily.”
Right after the "Friend 2" video.
@@_thejuicebox I can wait to have a deeper understanding of "Friend 2"
I'm like the MC because I too tend to put greater effort into my craftsmanship when there's cute girls involved.
When the world needed him, he gave us a premiere😔👌
He has risen once again
Yo, didn't expect to see my Art of mc to show up ( 0:59 the omori style one)
VAL JUMPSCARE!
Seeing "Eggman" just sent it for me xD

Ever seen someone take “Perhaps I’ll get to know these girls.” And turn it into “I wonder if I can make them mine.”?
@@thefrubblewarrior4678simple: projection
It's amazing how you can see all this from the MC! Like you said, he's like a blank portrait that's being painted in one way or another depending from the character he's talking with; I don't know if that can count in 'personality', but I guess so. It can represent us very well in the way that he doesn't know how to act when the things get complicated with the girls, after all, those situations aren't teached in school, it's a shame. It's a very good message that you left in the end, thank you, really.
The edition is very awesome and neat! Take care, Juice. Just Monika 💚
Blank portrait in author’s eyes but in some ways that couldn’t be further from the truth. Who really talks the same way with everyone they meet?
I think a lot of people miss the fact that the protagonist is supposed to be a teenage boy. Of course he doesn’t know what to say or how to handle Sayori’s confessions. His actions are incredibly realistic for someone who doesn’t understand mental illness but still desperately wants to help. This is emphasized in the dialogue after Sayori’s death. He cares, but he doesn’t know how to help, and then it’s too late.
And he blames himself.
Mc had to watch a girl rot for 2 days omg 😔
He never said he hated him tbh.
@ in the stream he did
It may used our names, be it taught us to be like more understanding with the characters, and how it is.
Feels weird to say something silly when the video is really serious. The British accent when he was talking to Natsuki made me laugh out loud
1:58 WHICH IS DUMB BTW! If the fandom had something to HATE him over personality wise for a long time then he must have SOME personality.
2:57 yay!! I’m so glad it was natsuki first, she’s my favorite!
*As someone who knows how she feels. Doggonit!
I LOVE MC, I can't say with words so underrated he is
His depths can be well inferred by the inner monologue and the words of others.
He's literally me

Holy crap, the edits with the Plus desktop were amazing! They literally looked like you modded the game. Amazing video!
I have to go with the official concept art for MC. I absolutely love the edits within the video and the message behind it. Can't wait to see more
Awesome video, Juice! I've honestly been on the side of "MC bad!", but this analysis really helped me see him in a new light.
Thank you for the character analysis! It's going to make for great help for at least one of my DDLC modding projects.
The doki doki purest mod is a great example of how much better MC could’ve handled the confession scene. I agree that it’s a hard situation. But his wording could’ve been a lot better

Great analysis. I don't dislike the main character, but he fails at being a self insert for me. He's sufficient though, and his own personality goes well with the story he's in.
That’s kind of the dissonance I’ve seen. He’s somehow supposed to be a self insert while being so restrictive as one.

ok, but in all seriousness, you're back!
No ive always liked the official one way more (but juice box is a close second). Uh, this is the MC designs at 0:44 in the video
YES JUICEBOX MADE A NEW DDLC VIDEO🥳🥳🎉
(As for Yuri, i'd say she's mine.)
MC do appear to find all of the girls attractive when first seeing them, so that made me believe that he might be a bit of a creep. But i honestly don't see that in him, at all.
Well, i also like video games and anime, yet, i guess i'm not the type to express myself, if that is what MC is meant to be like... Then i'm totally like him, lol. (I releate the most to Sayori and Yuri, tho.)
Seeing also how Monika later is JUST talking to us, as MC was just a character anyways and we don't rlly say anything during that, yeah, guess he is his own character.
I guess the same reason people like Sayori: His kind and empathetic nature speaks to them in a way.
What’s worse is he blames himself for the outcome.
Hey!!! i watched a bunch of your doki doki videos and they're all so good!
Ah I’m so hyped you made a video for the Mc too!!!
Your videos are so charming and it’s so creative that you lay out the video similar to the game!!!!
@@candyqueen8744 Thank you!! ^^
@@_thejuicebox of course!!!!❤️
Yeeees w vid, i literally got into ddlc a few days ago and i found your ddlc vids and watched them, and you made this like right after!
Next, do who is the best doki from a narrative standpoint or who is statistically the best doki (Decision matrix) Please!
yesss
I do look nice today, thanks for noticing.
This is suspiciously under appreciated…
And too good.
Best girl!
2:21 So like the MC has a Chameleon personality ..? Since he can change his personality to the person he is talking to
(Sorry for my bad English, and my bad explanation of the mc)
Oh hey! I'll watch the video soon. Just came to say I'm glad you still make analysis content for DDLC. Cheers.
I love MC so much
i love mc
also for some reason i liked the fanon design more than the canon one
i love doki doki for the topic it deals with and can make you learn some useful stuff in the main game and side stories and i love your work juice box, to make us understand better the characters and even to help ppl that are dealing with depression to open up by putting the links to seek for professional help.
With that beeing said thx for all the videos and you too look nice today!
What a great video and what a great way to finish with DDLC stuff
Unless you have more up your sleeves...
Or straw since ya know... juicebox
I love your style of videos! They’re unique and very immersive!
See you on Sunday juice I'll be taking some time off on Monday to go to the fair
0:44 obviously the fan made one, hes so cute!
Joos is adorable huh?
@@_thejuicebox juice boxes aren't very attractive dude
@@_thejuicebox unless thats the name of the fanmade one and im being stupid, sorry
@@huskadog7748 OHHHH i thought you meant our fan made one like our design, but yes I like that one too! also I wasn't talking about attraction 😅
@@_thejuicebox sorry, im too gay for this 🤭
MC is the most tragic, tortured character in the game, nothing awaits him but suffering
Worst part is he'll never find happiness like everyone else did in the side stories. He was made to be unhappy
@@animebro14 Made to be forgotten.
@@thefrubblewarrior4678 You nailed it there. He deserves so much better
I was waiting for this!!!
STANDING MINAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
🌠🌠
What if we got a DDLC game where we continue after Sayori's death, leading MC to become depressed as he thinks he's the cause of her death.
11:11 Is it okay that I have Yuri and Sayori's problems, and used to have Natsuki's problem?
THE LEGEND IS BACK !!!
love your analysis videos on the characters, all of them have been so good
i also feel the need to comment on the mother 3 figures in the background of these you have great taste in games
Love me some Mother 3!
So happy you're back 😊
I do not think Monika created MC.
I mean, Monika sucks at coding. How could she create him??? I believe he just got lobotomized by the end of act 2.
It might not be too difficult for her to create a proxy of the protag
Welcome back
Your powers of analysis are truly on another level. I always enjoy these videos from you. I would pay you to do an analysis of my oc you are that good
I would actually like to se a side story for MC
absolutely me too
Same for me
@@ImthinkhesBen saaaaaaammee
That was the only thing keeping me from seeing the side stories.
We coming full circle with this one boys
Being blamed for the player's mistakes
DDLC Protag 🤝 Chara Dreemurr
Guess that Pokemon!
Me: It’s Sayori!
It’s Pikachu!
Me: F**K
The king is back👑
LADIES AND GENTLMEN THE FINAL BOSS HAS ENTERED THE BUILDING.
I’ve waited a long time for this video, a very long time.
Finally full club analysis achieved :D
My favorite MC is the one from Fruits of the Literature Club. He was so cool, and I love how the Doki he picked saved him. That or the Doki Doki Takeover one. He has pretty good songs.
Each version of You and Me was tailored to each character in a way I find emotionally griping even if there are no lyrics.
@thefrubblewarrior4678 You and Me is probably my favorite FNF song of all time in that regard
RUclips recommended me your channel a few weeks ago, and I’m so glad to have discovered you!
Your videos are very well made, well written, well edited and of very good quality. But I have a question:
Now that you have done an analysis on all the characters of DDLC, do you plan to stop video on DDLC or will you analyze the poems or stuff like that ?
In any case I love your videos, keep it up!
Hey, you look nice today! ✨
Welcome aboard!
In my opinion I think the official concept art for MC is better
I do like what the community did with MC's sprite, but it's hard to believe the fanmade one pulled 4 different girls at the same time
Also I think the official design fits the “frowner” personality he sort of has.
Fun fact in case you didn't know: natsuki is the best girl
HE'S BACK
