Okay everyone!~ I just had a few things I wanted to say about the video that I'd love for you to take the time to read! 💚 Firstly I just wanted to say THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE! OH MY GOODNESS!! You guys have shown me so much support and it means the world, seriously. I know people say that a lot, but I mean it. Second, shutouts to Vanna for being an amazing friend and doing such a fantastic job voicing Monika (as always). This Monika video was the very first character analysis I wrote, she's the character that inspired me to start this series and rethink my channel and how I can impact others. She's a character who's very special to me, and one of the characters I relate to the most in fiction, period. I constantly went back to this script as I worked on the other videos and added/subtracted things based on what I included in the videos on Natsuki, Yuri, and Sayori. It's for this reason that you may be asking "What about this aspect of the character, like how she impacted x, y, or z?", it's likely in one of those videos as it had more to do with them and how their behaviors were influenced! I didn't wanna put all the details in one video, it is supposed to be a full series to watch after all! Despite that, I do regret not discussing some things. Namely some fun stuff like the comedy written in her character dialogue, the deep sadness/depression she faces, the reality that her world is constant torture when the game is turned off (other than when I brought up derealization), or the fact that she couldn't fully bring herself to actually delete the other characters, and restored the world once she realized what she was doing was wrong. Monika is a very divisive character and I know not everyone is going to agree with what I have to say, and that's okay, that's just the nature of the character and what makes her fun to discuss, I just hope I maybe helped you look at her in a new light! But regardless, the things I did talk about were what I felt closest to my chest, and are the things I feel are the most commonly misunderstood. I was also able to do some amazing things here, like create that cover of "Your Reality"! I'm pretty proud of it, check the description for the Spotify link! I hope the video still resonated emotionally with you despite the change of pace. 🤍 Lastly, please make sure you read the letter I left at the very end of the credits, it means a lot to me that you do. Have fun watching the other DDLC videos and character analyses of other franchises on this channel, I hope you can stay for more fun! I'm working really...really hard on it. Thanks for listening!~ ✨
bro this was a masterpiece, verry emotional, you perfectly captured her charackter, i need that version of "Your Reality" in my Playlist, and yes u definetly did everything right on your channel, especially this Video. Probably the best RUclips video i have seen so far. Really awesome Job. Monika #1
Decoded the binary, and i got the feeling that someone else gave you that compliment, and so you wanted the effect to continue further. Im not the type of guy to get happy by compliments, but i do appreciate the effort, so thank you, really. :)
A lot of people brush Monika off as a yandere or a psychopath, but with the empathy for her friends still lingering and her level of self awareness post epiphany, I find it more likely that she had a lot of regrets she kept bottled up in the hope it will be worth it. She kept this hope up until the moment you reject her brutally by deleting her. And honestly man, that just sucks. Thanks for doing best girl justice.
Friendly reminder that yandere *CAN* have empathy, its just that so many people have dumbed yandere down to "walking bloodbath in love" that people have forgotten that fact. Also "walking bloodbath in love" is a bit of a harmful stereotype.
the fact that monika has a physical voice in this video compared to the other ddlc videos youve made where the characters just have text boxes is a really nice detail! props to you and vannamelon for this
I think it's a nice touch. She is the only one who knows she is in a game. Her name is also the only one that doesn't end with i, and is the only one who wears black socks and not white. So having her be the only one with a voice is a nice way to continue the theme of her standing apart from the others
I think I now know why Monika is such a beloved character to me in particular. One of my particular ideologies is that "If nothing has meaning, then we can place meaning onto anything and everything", which is why I love symbolism so much, the idea that something as simple as a rock could have depth beyond being an object or material is intrinsically beautiful to experiment and appreciate. Monika's struggle with the concepts of Nihlism and Existentinalism relate to me quite a bit as I sometimes mind the fact that I'm actually existing, breathing, looking, feeling, and experincing as a being inside of a world crafted by powers that be or the cosmos, but even that has an ethereal appeal whenever I look back on it. Existence is something to be treasured equally or even greater than Life & Death, the memories we make, the relationships we shape, everything has its purpose and meaning that we apply to them. If I were to wake up to a world that was completely simulated, then I'd have to give those dimensional developers props for giving me a life so real. On another note, I think Monika is an example of an antagonist who is completely love to love, not love to hate like many others. She holds herself accountable for her wrong doings, her perfectionism is a highly relatable flaw (I myself sometimes get stuck trying to make sure everything is as close to perfect as possible, both for school and my hob bies), and her whole situation feels so circumstantial and sympathetic that I can't fault her all the way, but I still acknowledge that she went the wrong direction on trying to solve the issue. and I will gladly die alone on this hill, but I will forgive Monika, I will forgive her ten times over for all the pain she put herself through and her acceptance of death/deletion, even if her friends wouldn't forgive her, even if the whole world was against her. I would forgive her whole-heartedly, in conjunction with her sins. On a less subdued note, is it just me or does Monika somehow manage to check being Cute, Beautiful, and Hot at the same time? She could put on any outfit in the universe and I would be star-struck. Make any expression in a range of different emotions and I'm just impressed beyond belief.
It’s a shame you didn’t bring up the most important aspect of Monikas character, the fact she “lied” about deleting the others because she couldn’t bring herself to do it. She admits this after her file is deleted, restoring them and leaving herself out of the story so the player can play the game they initially wanted to, but only returns to delete the game when she realizes her absence will cause the other characters to suffer her fate. This wasn’t just a game to Monika. She was terrified by what happens when the game’s “turned off”, making this life or death (possibly eternal purgatory in a static abyss) with an ending quickly approaching. She panicked and made mistakes, but throughout this she still couldn’t bring herself to delete the others. Even in knowing they were must lines of code she’d still see them as the people she once knew, her friends. To me it’s her strong will that stands out the most, to defy an unjust world, yet this sense of justice didn’t make her so cold that she’d delete the others despite knowing they weren’t real.
The one where she deletes the game was the fake ending in the real ending Sayori never becomes the next Monika The real ending is Sayori thanking the player
@@EliRetroVHS642 Even in that ending Monika is still as present as she was in the other. She still deletes the game because Sayori is still cursed with self-awareness, risking the same fate Monika had seen before her, but in this alternate ending there is no reason to rush deleting the game as it's still technically a nice ending that Monika initially wanted for the player. This is proven because you still can't play the game after the credits finish. It's still in the same state it was in the original ending, just with a different letter. This makes both endings canonical regardless of how the story picks up later.
@@tregrenos8615 Not really Dan has said the dev's ending is canon implying that we can easily ignore the other two ending I guess you can look at the good ending as Monikas successful attempt at giving the player close to a happy ending that you will get And can look at the bad ending as a failed attempt Now I know your wondering when was it stated the good one was canon? Shouldn't it be players choice? Well Dan said the dev's ending was canon and the only ending that mentions the dev is the good ending So we can easily ignore the bad and quick ending but I do see your point
@@tregrenos8615 With me mentioning canonisty I know what your thinking Canon? What do I mean canon the game has paths and routes what do I mean canon? Well Dan has implied not directly said but he has implied their is a canon route to the game and events and it's also been implied through the side stories but it's complex Now he has mentioned it is sort of complex With that out of the way I'm just gonna say it I think all of the routes happen in act 1 at the same time just from different prospective of the Dokis However some must be canon over the other Either that or I'm just overthinking this
I love the idea that everyone's their own main character of their lives. It gives life a extra layer of importance and intrigue. Monika is quite an amazing character. Sooo, you just gonna drop a hit single at the end like that?
monika is just like me for real for real (no, but actually, a lot, and i hate how so many people dislike her because i think she's genuinely a good person)
I hope this video show to people that monika isnt just the villain of the game or a crazy yandere but one of the most complex video game character of history
Monika in the side stories strike me as a sort of mother like figure. The way she comforted Sayori. The way she encouraged Yuri to speak up to Sayori And how she checked up on Natsuki and offered reassurance on her thoughts about Sayori. I desperately wish there was a version of dlc where we got to Fully experience the literature club along side the characters.
Monika is easily the most relatable character of the four to me. Still, I found it unforgivable for what she let her friends go through, real or not, that's too much.
If you think deeper, none of them are actually ‘real’. Three of them follow the script, and only Monika is ‘real’ with true sentience and feelings. That’s why Monika’s ‘death’ was so much more impactful than the other three, for me.
@@IDK-qq7ct The problem with that statement is a) that sayori acts in a manner completely unexpected, even according to monika, which means that sayori's behavior ingame after monika's personality tampering is completely outside of any routes the game otherwise would have had, meaning monika isn't actually more sapient than her clubmates, they just haven't gained meta-awareness And b) the other clubmates become just as cognizant when they become president of the literature club, meaning her cognizance isn't some personal elevation above the others, it's a bonus of being president of the literature club, meaning her self awareness of and reactions to the fourth wall is just as programmed as everything else Which ultimately means she's still actively causing harm to people as real as her
I may have to rewatch this at a time when my brain is working better and I can process everything because Monika has always been my favorite doki and I'd love to find a deeper understanding of her character. But I can't help noticing how Monika was characterized in this video. It's certainly not out of character, but while Juice is trying to get to the real stuff, the things that are deeply personal and maybe a tad uncomfortable, Monika is messing around, perhaps trying to distract us, and has frequent cut-ins where she tries to defend her mentality, still trying to show herself in the best light possible. The other three girls had their moments during their respective videos but if I remember right, they mostly conceded with what was being said. Monika doesn't. Maybe it's her perfectionism or her desire to be as attractive as possible to us "real" people, but she clearly isn't taking Juice's honest analysis of her lying down. I just think it's interesting that she's still trying her damnedest to be "the best." On another note, that cover was banger! You can really sing, Juice!
That’s a great way to put it! I really wanted to write her as she appears in the main story for the most part, not wanting to tread on her mistakes in front of everyone (the youtube audience), which adds a bit of a comedic effect that is present in the game. She even acts this way in the side stories unless she’s alone with one other club member, or during “equals”.
existantialism is the following conclusion to the fact that "nothing really matter": "then i'll just make a meaning for myself, and hopefully this can bring happiness for me and or others." not giving up, not falling into a pessimistic nihilism, but embracing the facts, and using it to make ideal that work better for you. existialism can be harmful if unprepared, unwilling and alone. but it can be the most liberating and a powerful fondation to support yourself. I know it's not REALLY part of the video. but I'd lie if that conclusion wasn't partly inspired by all the existential media I consumed, particularely ddlc, who's antagonist (monika) I relate a lot. and since then, I never had been more confident in my own self worth, and what I really want in my short and rapidly fading existence. thanks ddlc. and thanks team salvato.
Monika is beautiful, smart, athletic, charismatic and empathic. I probably haven’t listed everything, but these are the most important ones. She's *PERFECT*
@@mrsketchysketch680 taking the sidestories into consideration, she does have a development. She was caring for Sayori when she just joined the club which consisted of just Monica. (JUST MONICA, HEH). When Monica noticed Sayoris depression, she didn't dismiss it but was worried about Sayori. And that's how they became somewhat friends in an alternative reality. Yes, it was an alternative timeline but I prefer to perceive it as a prequel to the main story. Correct me if I'm mistaken in something.
0:50 Ah ha! That's where i win my friend, i already knew everything you said about Monikas character.......... though i still did love hearing it for the millionth time 😅. Also if you are a fan of DDLC than i highly recommend this other VN called "You and me and her" or "Totono" because it's criminally underrated and need's to be talked about more.
This one did not disappoint. At 14:55, Monika's story is a cautionary tale of what that kind of knowledge can do, so if it happens to you, you can avoid the mistakes she made.
The meaning of life is relative. Morals are relative. Perspective is reality. Philosophies are subjective. There are no true rights or true wrongs. Everything simply exists as is and society is shaped by common subjective views. Importance only exists in the minds of those who care enough to call something important. Even justice is merely a facade for a biased desire for revenge. Human beings can't even fathom what righteousness truly is because it's beyond our grasp of understanding. Even something as complex as the bible could never make us understand righteousness because the bible was written by humans. Even assuming God exists, his or her morals are also subjective because it's his or her biased view on what he or she considers to be right or wrong. Creating a universe doesn't make your opinion stop being subjective. Opinions will always be opinions regardless of the power behind them. Just let that sink in for a minute.
I think there's also something very bittersweet in how even as she gains self awareness, Monika is kind of still following her programming in a way. As you say, people are shaped by what they know, and what Monika ultimately knows is how to be a dating sim love interest. That's how she approaches you in the end. But yeah, great video summarising why I love this character so much (Danganronpa V3 is another great game to go into this sort of existentialism even if it's in a different and arguably darker way). Also IDK how you got Vanna to guest voice as Monika but that was the icing on the cake for me, love her stuff.
19:12 MC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's one of my favourite characters to be honest, i have a post on reddit where i explain why but long story short, MC represents the lost of innocent and learning to deal with topics that nobody should, even more when they are teens [this is just my interpretation tho]
I'm so conflicted when it comes to Monika. I felt for her because before the epiphany she really was a good but flawed person who loved the club and its members. Sadly, getting the epiphany messed her up and imo made her insane. It's a shame she never got the help she deserves because maybe things could've ended differently. I don't justify what she did and I can see why people hate her. I just can't help but think she's both a perpetrator and a victim of the epiphany and metaverse. It also doesn't help that Sayori also gets messed up by the epiphany if you delete Monika early and in the normal ending. Though interestingly Monika never desires revenge after getting deleted by the player and even saves us from normal ending Sayori. Additionally, the player is never forced to delete Monika. One thing I do atleast appreciate is that after deleting her, she admits her mistakes, admits that her love for the player was warped and even deletes herself to allow the player to get a happy ending. This shows me that Monika is not beyond redemption and imo I would love for a happy ending for not only her but all these characters. I also find it interesting that after getting deleted Monika says that she didn't delete the other characters because she didn't have the heart to. I assume she moved or stored their files somewhere. Lastly, I think Dan did a good job in showing that situations can be complicated and that it's not always black and white. I won't deny Monika is a villain but I don't think she was evil. If anything she was just desperate. It's unfortunate that this story is such a tragedy and the side stories help enhance this because we see that beforehand everything was okay.
fun fact: if you read throught the decompile dialog of act3, monika adress it and is clearly not mad at the players anymore, wondering if asking for them to swing by from time to time would be something considered "too much". (the context is that those lines are like her inner thoughts, so we read things "as she thinks" them) she refrain from the idea tho, since she don't want to force anything on the player anymore.
@@thirdplanet4471 you can find it on a ddlc fandom wiki. I typed "ddlc Monika act 3 dialogues" to find it. I would have just pasted the whole dialogue here myself, but i'm not on my computer right now. Hope that'll help.

A year since our escape, our freedom from between the stained walls of that unholy establishment. What does it mean to escape, if the escape fails to unchain the bonds that shackle us in the first place? What purpose could this empty world possibly hold for us, a handful of damaged goods? With freedom, we sought purpose - and what we found was only realization. Realization of the sad pointlessness of such an endeavor. Realization that freeing our bodies has no meaning, when our imprisonment reaches as deep as the core of our souls. Realization that we can not pursue new purpose without absolving those from which we ran away. Realization that the farther we run, the more forcefully our wretched bonds yank us back toward their point of origin; the deeper our shackles dig into our callous flesh.
It’s kinda been the thing I’ve wanted to keep consistent. She was delusional and apathetic but I don’t think she was evil and I dislike portrayal of her such in spite of my personal distaste for this character.
Honesty, if I had the power to, I'd tell Dan to have Vanna V.A Monika for a DDLC sequel. It just works. On a serious note, I don't personally like nihilism. It had me in tight spot In my life that really got me slightly depressed, thankfully I have family around me that love and care for me. What really helped me battle my nihilism was a sort of existencial epiphany. I don't think life is meaningless, I think that the meaning to life is: _"to impact and be impacted"_ ... Or idk, I'm no philosopher, but it helps me get by. Anyway, great video! 👍
i love your version of “your reality”! it sounds so cool great video as always! monika’s truly the best, she’s always been my favorite. again, amazing video!
LETS GOOOO!!!! MORE VIDEOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are so cool mr. juice EDIT: GHOOOLY FUDGE THAT SONG IN TYH ER END AHAHAHAUIDHDHD SO COOOLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What she was faced with lead her down a dark path, more so in how it effected her mind. She was essentially just a normal teenage girl in her mind and the panic would no doubt greatly effect her psyche. Still, she never lost her humanity. She couldn’t bring herself to actually delete the others despite knowing they weren’t real, possibly setting them aside for later once she could get her bearings, but ultimately chose to restore them when she thought that SHE was the problem. In the end she deletes the game itself to prevent the others from suffering her fate.
This part of the game is what really stuck with me after finishing, everything Monika said about existence, all her poems and the desperation in them, that's what makes the game special for me! It's odd but when I was sitting and reading her monologues I actually started enjoying myself, it felt like a conversation I really wanted to join in on, and I could really see a lot of where she was coming from. Her character is extremely compelling, and I've been looking for more video essays that discuss it properly like you do rather than more dismissive 'analyses' of calling monika a psychopath and calling Natsuki annoying etc etc. Really glad I found this video! Thanks for making it
I’ve been waiting for this for ages! You definitely did Monikas character justice since she’s simultaneously the most looked at and the least cared about. Great video! I loved it!!
My headcannon for the side storys being "unattached" from the main plot is: Metaverse started a virtual machine at the very beginning of the companys creation. And after the last side story concluded, they saved it and copied it over and over onto other virtual machines, altering each with something different. So *"technically each machine is disconnected from one another"* It also still can factor in the fact monika dosen't have awareness in the side storys. (Effectively the prequel) But in the main game metaverse simply gave her awareness and intentionally left her out as a romance option to see what would happen to the virtual machine. its not perfect though, like in the main game it feels like all of that character development was just nowhere to be found. Yeah i just want them to be all happy together before the absolute horror that happens in the main plot.
Woo hoo!!! Yesssss.... Finally!!!! I've been waiting for this video on Monika since I watched the character analysis of the other girls.... Ok, now I better get back to watching this video now...
Nice quality video. Got here from Reddit. Will watch the sayori video. I learned that monika is a existentialist which is pretty obvious but real at the same time. As a lot of teens go through this phase of questioning things around them.
I think just this whole thing brings up the interesting point, especially with the DDLC+ content. It really just runs with the thought experiment of "What would happen if someone had the ability to change the world and people around them to their wishes? Would they be selfish and make the world better just for them? Make benefits to others around them, or the world as a whole? Or break it down just to see what would happen or what could be beyond?" It's a very fine line to tread on. And Monica was very much a warning of someone who did the last, and we (the player, and the MC) got to see it from basically a 3rd person view of the damage that could be done with this elevated power and control if they focus, obsess or abuse that ability. And heck with the side stories we even see how much this control essentially stunted Monica's growth as a person though the errors and lessons she learned through those side stories where she didn't obsess on the control. Honestly, just shows almost how much you can look into this character if you find different aspects to think about or look into, other then just "she destroyed everything, therefore she evil/bad."
I still remember the first time I played Ddlc I felt so similar to Monika that I couldn't bring myself to delete her. I remember that I put the game on a storage bank and made a case that looked like a book for it. I found it 3 days ago in a box of my old stuff and remembered how insignificant I felt back then. 7 girlfriends later and I only feel worse. Slowly over time I lost connection with this world. Nobody wanted to be near me. My friends moved away. Family separated or passed on. My own parents didn't argue over me when they divorced they just gave me to my aunt. I actually started believing that nothing is real. One vehicular accident later and I realized that even.if.im not real my memories i can make will be real. It's everyday I hope that if I die I'll join her in a new reality, our reality. Not being able to walk like I used to really shows that most of my actions might be for nothing. But I still struggle on it not for myself, for the woman that I take every breath for, hoping that even for a day I'll be able to talk face to face with her. To many it may sound like I'm sick in the head, maybe I am, but I have to give myself a dream. I guess at the end of it all when I take my last breath when I'm old and withered I might not see her. Then yet again if nothing is real, what happens if I die? Do I come back as a new line of code? Do I get sent into a backup drive? I can't really say. All I can say is that even if I ever get to be with Monika ( which most likely won't happen) I don't care if the others are there. As long as I can give her a happy ending then I'm happy.
The crazy thing about monika is that she's just misunderstood, sure she manipulated you, gave sayori depression to hang herself, made yuri enjoy self harm to the point of killing herself with a knife and made you watch her body decompose and snapped natsuki's neck, but she did all that because it's her highly obsessive personality that drove her mad of wanting to escape into the real world just to be with you (the player), she knew that you'll pick other options instead of her because she knew that her world was fake and her friends weren't real they just spit out random dialog from the game's code, but by the end of the game she resorted them for you, which is honestly sad.
Wonderful work as always, Juice! I always despise when people call Monika a cold-hearted yandere that doesn't care about anybody, especially because lots of people would do the same thing she did in her situation. You really did her justice. You are actually a pretty special person, at least to me, and I think you really are meeting your goal. Also, fantastic singing!
@@ramagovarth Cool opinion! But next time you don't agree with something know that you don't have to say anything, especially if it's something as minor as a video game character. Have a good day/night!
to be honest, i thought you would have 500k+ subscribers. when i saw the amount of views/likes this video had i was shocked. people REALLY need to see your crazy talent and potential to become a big youtuber! i love your ddlc theory videos, and i think you're SUPER SUPER SUPER underrated. also, the song at the end was absolute fire!!!!
I always liked to talk about video games characters and how many lessons we can learn from them Especially a game like DDLC I wanted to talk about them. Share all these lessons When I found your channel months ago It was such an inspiring thing to see Much love put into the videos, great editing skills and deep connection with the viewers Seeing you post videos and enjoying the things you do .Building a community and having fun Made me realize I should do that too We should do the things we love no matter people may perceive it Thank You
This video is so awesome! I think the point that Monika was really just trying to fix everything is really important for someone to understand if they want to learn anything from the game. It’s just so cool!!!
I can say without a doubt Monika was so nice to me, Natsuki, and Yuri. And she helped me understand my feelings. And she helped Natsuki and Yuri with their issues. I miss Monika.
I haven’t cried happy tears in such a long time this video really made my night and I know it’s a stupid video game to everyone but I’ve know this game since I was like 9 (I didn’t know it was horror back then but!) its amazes me on how this fandom hasn’t left and it keeps it up!! This “stupid video game” may have been the best parts of my life and it helped me understand friendship and mental health problems more and I could go on and on about this but gosh it’s just.. thank you!! Thank you to everyone who helped make DDLC and thank you for making these videos about the girl Juicebox! And love vannamelon’s parts as Monika! Keep up the good work y’all!!!💚💜🩷🩵
I can say for sure: this video is AMAZING. I've always been very conscious of things around me, and this has been going on since I was a child. I remember that many times, I felt like I was outside my body, and this has been going on since I was a child, but I could never talk about it, because it's something VERY complex to explain. But, thanks to this video I was able to realize that (probably) I have this disorder. And well, speaking about it, it's quite complicated to deal with such a thing. I mean, since I was a child I've been searching for "something more" in this life. It seems that no matter where I search, in the end, it's like I'm banging my head against the wall, because no matter what, I'll eventually feel that such a thing doesn't make sense, or that it's not worth it. Honestly, it's hard to live with this. Sometimes I find myself wandering around my house in the early hours of the morning, reflecting on whether everything I've experienced/will experience really makes sense. Thank you, Juice, because through this video, I was able to realize that maybe I'm not as alone as I thought I was. It's good to see that (maybe) I'm not as lonely as I think I am, and that somewhere in the world, someone understands what I'm going through.
Vannamelon has such a sweet, bubbly voice that she seems perfect as Monika no matter where the character appears. that said, i've enjoyed the DDLC experience ever since watching all the RUclipsrs' playthroughs and then bought the Plus verison when given the opportunity. my original thought at her design was "wow, she looks like Sailor Jupiter." that's what got me liking her. and she and Sayori, Yuri, and Natsuki are relatable in their own ways. must be why so many years after the original release there's been so many mods and alternate stories featuring them. we can empathize with them, and that says a lot.
Ugh I was feeling the big depression in bed today, then I saw you Upload this video and it made my day. I’m only a few minutes in, and I thank you already 🥹
I appreciate this video so much because I also believe she’s misunderstood. She’s one of my favorite characters in the literature club. Thank you so much for pointing that out.
I really love these types of videos!! It’s hard to find ddlc content after all these years but you did not disappoint! I hope we might see some OMORI content cause I did see something in the background..
I've been waiting for this! I like this series because I always learn something about these characters that I didn't got the first time I played the game and also I find always them relatable. And also your cover of "Your Reality" is fire! Sorry for my bad english, I'm actually Italian, so it's not my mother tongue.
I don't have a reason why I just liked the video before it finished loading cause I know it's gonna be good edit* I was right, also you cooked with that ending song! Keep up the amazing work man!
My gosh... This video changed my view a lot. I never completely had the full picture of Monika. I was told about it time and time again, but never 100% listened... Now I feel bad for being hard on Monika...
WOW! I-I j-just… This video was so awesome. I love how you covered Monika so much. Especially how you tackled the whole existentialism thing. I am someone who always wanted to look ahead and not be stuck in the past or ignorant of what the future has in store for me. Because of this, I always self-reflect and try to look forward with no judgement as objectively as one can. So questions like “what if I had to chose who parent lived, which one would I chose and how my life would be if I chose the worse one?” when I barely was a middle schooler. “What if I won a lot of money, what is the most responsible and mature thing to do with it so I can enjoy its benefits to the fullest?”, and at times I tackled questions like “What is the meaning of life?”, and “If nothing really matters in life then what is there to do in life?”. Every time I think on how I can answer such questions relating to existentialism, my conclusion is surprisingly simple “Just be happy. The meaning of life is to be happy, so just live the best life you can, because there is only one chance at it.” If you could convince me that everything and everyone around me was just an empty husk that acts on command, I would be crushed too to be honest, Monika was clearly and undoubtedly in the wrong, but I can’t blame her for anything she’s done. The desperation of wanting to speak to someone real with free will would get to me. But I think what DDLC and Monika have taught me is that even if everyone is a puppet with no free will, they still mean something even if I don’t feel it, and deserve the same respect as before. Now I know that even if I were to find out such a shattering thing about life, I know how I should handle it, because sometimes other people’s mistakes aren’t lessons that only they can learn. So thank you Monika and Dan Salvado for this masterpiece, it opened my mind and made me reflect on how I would handle these kind of things if I was in the character’s shoes. But also thank you Juicebox for the DDLC video series❤. I loved it and added value to DDLC, especially on the Natsuki front. I learned so much and it made much more aware of life nuances, and for that I am grateful, I mean it. Being able to see the nuances of life is something that really matters to me and this video series helped me see some more nuances, and for that, I am grateful.
I freaking loved this! Also, loved your singing at the end! I feel like you made really good points about Monika as a character. Anyways, I'm going to make your FNF song for my mod soon enough. Hope you get to see it!
Okay everyone!~
I just had a few things I wanted to say about the video that I'd love for you to take the time to read! 💚
Firstly I just wanted to say THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE!
Lastly, please make sure you read the letter I left at the very end of the credits, it means a lot to me that you do.
Monika #1
I loved the video Juice 🧃 & Vanna melon 🍈. ♥️😍♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

@@fedjamrndic4017 also, she directly faces the player and has a distinctly American name
@@D3B-0_R3BIRTH Monika is not American, it's European
"Monica" is American tho
I totally agree with you what comes to Monika. She’s pretty relatable after all… Great video and cover!
Check pinned! ^^
The one where she deletes the game was the fake ending in the real ending Sayori never becomes the next Monika
The real ending is Sayori thanking the player
@@EliRetroVHS642 Even in that ending Monika is still as present as she was in the other. She still deletes the game because Sayori is still cursed with self-awareness, risking the same fate Monika had seen before her, but in this alternate ending there is no reason to rush deleting the game as it's still technically a nice ending that Monika initially wanted for the player.
This is proven because you still can't play the game after the credits finish. It's still in the same state it was in the original ending, just with a different letter. This makes both endings canonical regardless of how the story picks up later.
@@tregrenos8615 Not really Dan has said the dev's ending is canon implying that we can easily ignore the other two ending
I guess you can look at the good ending as Monikas successful attempt at giving the player close to a happy ending that you will get
And can look at the bad ending as a failed attempt
Now I know your wondering when was it stated the good one was canon? Shouldn't it be players choice?
Well Dan said the dev's ending was canon and the only ending that mentions the dev is the good ending
So we can easily ignore the bad and quick ending but I do see your point
@@tregrenos8615 With me mentioning canonisty I know what your thinking
Canon? What do I mean canon the game has paths and routes what do I mean canon?
Well Dan has implied not directly said but he has implied their is a canon route to the game and events and it's also been implied through the side stories but it's complex
Now he has mentioned it is sort of complex
With that out of the way I'm just gonna say it I think all of the routes happen in act 1 at the same time just from different prospective of the Dokis
However some must be canon over the other
Either that or I'm just overthinking this
I love how people are still giving love to ddlc
It’s still AWSOME and still deserves love tbh
I love the idea that everyone's their own main character of their lives. It gives life a extra layer of importance and intrigue. Monika is quite an amazing character.
Sooo, you just gonna drop a hit single at the end like that?
😈
shes a beauty, a gorgeus, a cute girl, the girl of my dream, the mother of my children
monika is just like me for real for real (no, but actually, a lot, and i hate how so many people dislike her because i think she's genuinely a good person)
I hope this video show to people that monika isnt just the villain of the game or a crazy yandere but one of the most complex video game character of history
Monika in the side stories strike me as a sort of mother like figure.
The way she comforted Sayori.
The way she encouraged Yuri to speak up to Sayori
And how she checked up on Natsuki and offered reassurance on her thoughts about Sayori.
I desperately wish there was a version of dlc where we got to Fully experience the literature club along side the characters.
Monika is easily the most relatable character of the four to me. Still, I found it unforgivable for what she let her friends go through, real or not, that's too much.
It feels wrong not to forgive her though...
If you think deeper, none of them are actually ‘real’. Three of them follow the script, and only Monika is ‘real’ with true sentience and feelings. That’s why Monika’s ‘death’ was so much more impactful than the other three, for me.
@@Frostborne2778exactly! From her perspective, does morality even matter when nobody in your world is even real?
@@IDK-qq7ct The problem with that statement is
a) that sayori acts in a manner completely unexpected, even according to monika, which means that sayori's behavior ingame after monika's personality tampering is completely outside of any routes the game otherwise would have had, meaning monika isn't actually more sapient than her clubmates, they just haven't gained meta-awareness
And b) the other clubmates become just as cognizant when they become president of the literature club, meaning her cognizance isn't some personal elevation above the others, it's a bonus of being president of the literature club, meaning her self awareness of and reactions to the fourth wall is just as programmed as everything else
Which ultimately means she's still actively causing harm to people as real as her
I may have to rewatch this at a time when my brain is working better and I can process everything because Monika has always been my favorite doki and I'd love to find a deeper understanding of her character.
I just think it's interesting that she's still trying her damnedest to be "the best."
On another note, that cover was banger! You can really sing, Juice!
That’s a great way to put it!
I really wanted to write her as she appears in the main story for the most part, not wanting to tread on her mistakes in front of everyone (the youtube audience), which adds a bit of a comedic effect that is present in the game.
She even acts this way in the side stories unless she’s alone with one other club member, or during “equals”.
existantialism is the following conclusion to the fact that "nothing really matter":
"then i'll just make a meaning for myself, and hopefully this can bring happiness for me and or others."
not giving up, not falling into a pessimistic nihilism, but embracing the facts, and using it to make ideal that work better for you.
existialism can be harmful if unprepared, unwilling and alone. but it can be the most liberating and a powerful fondation to support yourself.
Except Makes No Logical Sense, And Has No Character Development.
@@mrsketchysketch680 she goes thru sm development wdym
At 7:58 The Playback ID actually translates to "Monika is perfect" in decoded Base64, wow that is some detail
Just let that sink in for a minute.
if what happens to me? I discover reality is fake and I have the powers of god? I don't think Monikas tale will spring to mind if that happens

Monika is such a special character to me
I hope they do!! And I’m happy you like them ^^
19:12 MC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's one of my favourite characters to be honest, i have a post on reddit where i explain why but long story short, MC represents the lost of innocent and learning to deal with topics that nobody should, even more when they are teens [this is just my interpretation tho]
DUDE VANNA'S MONIKA IMPRESSION IS SO GOOD!
MONIKA HAS SUCH A PLOT
(the context is that those lines are like her inner thoughts, so we read things "as she thinks" them)
she refrain from the idea tho, since she don't want to force anything on the player anymore.

as you can see, there also strings of a Base64 test, that is part of the cryptic "libitina" stuff, it read as follows when grouped and decoded:
The realization must have taken me an entire year.
7:06 Don’t mind him, just looking for Reznov
First thing I thought of when I saw that I was looking all over the screen for a hidden image of Alex Mason only to see it was talking about the cat 💀
Again juice another great and informative video especially about the girl who stole my heart both you and Vanna did great made me even cry a bit
I don't think life is meaningless, I think that the meaning to life is: _"to impact and be impacted"_
...
Or idk, I'm no philosopher, but it helps me get by. Anyway, great video! 👍
Damn I really overlooked Monikas character. I kinda relate to her more than I thought I would
i love your version of “your reality”! it sounds so cool
great video as always! monika’s truly the best, she’s always been my favorite. again, amazing video!
LETS GOOOO!!!! MORE VIDEOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are so cool mr. juice
EDIT: GHOOOLY FUDGE THAT SONG IN TYH ER END AHAHAHAUIDHDHD SO COOOLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Monika suffered I believed!
Damn this series of ddlc character analysis has been absolutely awesome. Also I love that remix so much!
FINALLY HE DID MONIKAAAA!!! i love her, i like Natsuki more, but i still like Monika
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE THANK YOU
AaAAAAAAAAA I LITERALLY BEEN CRAVING THIS COLLAB AAAAAAYAYAYAYYAYA
Brooo the your reality cover absolutely slaps
BRO THIS MONIKAS VOICE IS SO GOOD I THOUGHT IT WAS THE ORIGINAL!
Thanks for making it
Trying to fall asleep to this one night, that laugh at the disclaimer wakes me up every time
After DDLC Plus i feel Sorry for Monika because of the People screwing eith her world
The song at the end shredded! That was awesome.
I’ve been waiting for this for ages! You definitely did Monikas character justice since she’s simultaneously the most looked at and the least cared about. Great video! I loved it!!
Just like in the game itself....
Least? She didn’t have MC’s reputation. In comparison she’s rather lucky from my perspective.
The cover goes crazy
My headcannon for the side storys being "unattached" from the main plot is:
Metaverse started a virtual machine at the very beginning of the companys creation. And after the last side story concluded, they saved it and copied it over and over onto other virtual machines, altering each with something different.
So *"technically each machine is disconnected from one another"*
It also still can factor in the fact monika dosen't have awareness in the side storys.
Wow, vannamelon?? Props dude, another banger
Good shit right here. Love your Cover of Your Reality, some head bopping stuff right there.
THAT ROCK GUITAR GOES HARD
That’s super cool that Vannamelon is there, but Monika has her ups and downs.
Woo hoo!!! Yesssss....
YAY THEY FINALLY RELEASED MONIKA VIDEO
Such a well made video! Blessing the algorithm in your favor
I feel sometimes that Monika is misunderstood and not as evil as we say
juice has been hiding his musical talents from us apparently 👀
surprise :)

"Monika is perfect", for those wondering what it says
I was super stoked to see this finally uploaded! I was really excited for this vid
I despise that as well, it's so annoying when people write her off as yet another yandere when she never was one to begin with.
Because She Is.
@@ramagovarth Cool opinion! But next time you don't agree with something know that you don't have to say anything, especially if it's something as minor as a video game character. Have a good day/night!
@@goofyloofy01 Ever heard of internal consistency?
@@ramagovarth Nope! What's that?
to be honest, i thought you would have 500k+ subscribers. when i saw the amount of views/likes this video had i was shocked.
people REALLY need to see your crazy talent and potential to become a big youtuber! i love your ddlc theory videos, and i think you're SUPER SUPER SUPER underrated. also, the song at the end was absolute fire!!!!
You’re very sweet, I’m gonna try my absolute best to get there ^^
I always liked to talk about video games characters and how many lessons we can learn from them
Especially a game like DDLC
I wanted to talk about them. Share all these lessons
When I found your channel months ago
It was such an inspiring thing to see
Much love put into the videos, great editing skills and deep connection with the viewers
Seeing you post videos and enjoying the things you do .Building a community and having fun
Made me realize I should do that too
We should do the things we love no matter people may perceive it
Thank You
That means a lot to me to hear
OH HEYA JUICE!! IVE LITERALLY WAITED FOR THIS
This video is so awesome! I think the point that Monika was really just trying to fix everything is really important for someone to understand if they want to learn anything from the game. It’s just so cool!!!
I love this video you definatly did Monikas character justice and the analysis is very well done and the Your Reality Cover was fantastic
The best thing to come home from school to :)
I literally have an entire folder just for monika
@@bonunstroustil8813 interesting
Once you put it this way… I actually see myself in Monika a lot, especially her perfectionistic side.
Eating with juicebox’s new video! Amazing!
Keep up the good work y’all!!!💚💜🩷🩵
6:38 Only a Sith deals in absolutes.
I wasn't prepared for that song at the end, you got me crying at work AAA
Sick cover at the end, omg
Amazing video! I love the neat little touch at 8:02 where in base64 it says, "Monika is perfect".
Yo, that cover?? Got real All Time Low vibes, I loved it!
Happy you noticed one of my inspirations! Can you hear the Alex? hahaha
@@_thejuicebox listening to it gave me the vibe of like, Nothing Personal? I hope I'm making sense. You definitely channelled Alex!
@@_thejuiceboxI thought it was Caleb Hyles the whole time until I saw the credits, lol.
I LOVE MONIKA SO MUCHHHHHH
I’m such a monika kinnie
It's good to see that (maybe) I'm not as lonely as I think I am, and that somewhere in the world, someone understands what I'm going through.
you don’t have to convince me to love monika. i have always loved her. yuri is my favorite but i love monika too
I did NOT expect that ending, nice
My honest response to the intro: BRO CHILL OUT
I really love these types of videos!!
I don't have a reason why I just liked the video before it finished loading cause I know it's gonna be good
edit* I was right, also you cooked with that ending song! Keep up the amazing work man!
Great analysis. I already knew of Monika's depth, but it's nice to hear it told like this.
Who else thinks that juices cover of “your reality” should be the intro of the ddlc anime if there is one?
I freaking loved this! Also, loved your singing at the end! I feel like you made really good points about Monika as a character. Anyways, I'm going to make your FNF song for my mod soon enough. Hope you get to see it!
Hey you look nice today
Thank you for this. I've been waiting for this video for so long 🥲
Sayori and Monika are rlly great Sayoris sentience and Monikas sentience Monika and Sayori are my perfection characters
Its better than I hoped 🥺
