The idea of realizing that (as a robot) you had a completely separate living creature stuck within you all along, and the only way to free it will likely end your own existence in the process, is such a horrifying yet enticing moral dilemma that I would love to see it explored in more of fiction. Something about the way it immediately introduces existential issues of who you are or have been all along, compounded by the immediate physical threat of allowing the creature to persist within you is really unique. Anyways, great video!
The funny thing about the point of Eggman making his robots compete with each other, that was acknowledged in The Murder Of Sonic The Hedgehog as it's something he does with specialised Badniks that are decidedly more complex in their thinking than your average Motobug, Buzzbomber, Slicer or Bubbles. Anyways, really solid analysis on Gamma, one of the best one shot characters in all of Sonic, and I'm looking forward to future analysis videos on the blue rat and his friends.
Yes!!! I remember playing it and reading that and then saying out loud on stream “woah, they actually acknowledged what I wrote into my Gamma video, I should put that in!” (I forgot to put it in) 💀 Really happy you enjoyed!
Man, I remember playing Adventure 1 as a kid and thinking Gamma's story was dumb and had nothing to do with anything. But replaying it as an adult made me realize how Gamma's story is this eerie, philosophical meditation on the nature of consciousness, freewill, and the cycle of violence from the perspective of a character who is too naive and psychologically immature to process the world around them past service level observations and revelations.
Something I am not a fan of whenever discussions of this story arise is "It's ok, gamma is just the bird" or "You don't understand, gamma is not the bird" and it's like... No, Gamma is BOTH the robot AND bird Without bird, there's no Gamma, and we know the bird influences Gamma in some aspects with the bird flashbacks especially, how else would he know about the origins of the bird inside? I highly doubt Eggman would put that info in their programming. But also, this is Eggman's machine, it follows his orders, he has his own personality that was programmed at first by Eggman, then evolved with those around him. This makes Gamma indeed a different person to the bird, but also intrinsically linked to it as well! Realizing this nuance makes this story way more interesting than just "robot frees bird by suicide" or "bird frees itself from robot cage" and it's honestly upsetting when people boil it down to either of those when it's so much more complex than that!
Dude absolutely wonderful video! It deserves a lot more attention 😊 I can tell that your love for Sonic is very deep. I keep hoping that maybe one day they would do an HD update or something of the Sonic adventure games. I know The director of Sonic adventure and Sonic adventure 2 has said that he's not closed off to the possibility of doing another Sonic adventure game
@@_thejuicebox It would be interesting to get back closer to the original art style. Something I didn't realize is that in certain regards the Dreamcast was superior to character design and certain color/texture appearances and apparently the GameCube port was kind of lazy with cutting out certain details. I just think sometimes these companies underestimate what the consumer wants and they think that it's just a vocal minority and won't sell well. I don't know if you ever played any of the Sonic advance games but I think they could make a lot of money with a Sonic advance triple pack on the switch
Yk Gamma kinda reminds me of a kid raised in the wrong home He didn't know right from wrong he only wanted to make his father proud He only did what Eggman told him to do Gamma seeing Beta being remodeled, the other three E-Series getting removed from the Egg Carrier, and confronting Amy and the bird made Gamma realize what he is doing is wrong and not follow Eggman when he is hovering down from the Egg Carrier Also I like the fact Gamma is off of the Egg Carrier while Beta is seen on the Egg Carrier My theory is that Gamma getting off the Egg Carrier symbolizes his freedom from Eggman while Beta is still on the Egg Carrier because he is still loyal to Eggman
A very good video addressing an aspect of the story I've not seen deep dived yet, also very funnily fitting that I would find it on the day of its 1st birthday.
Yknow, they originally intended for gamma to shoot himself after he freed beta, but thought it too dark for the kids.
That would've been a bit much, yeah.

This video is so criminally underrated. Please do more Sonic character analyses. I can’t get enough of those types of videos.
They are on the way! ✨
Watching this breakdown and hearing the ending theme again really gave me chills..

A Sonic Adventure Remake would be wonderful! (If SEGA does it right)
