    Hi Niclas, My favorite tool is my Starrett C604RE 6" Scale. It is with me all day, and yes I even use it to scrape wet glue. Very pretty. 1) I didn't get the point of the screw at the end of the board. 2) Is it stable enough, from rocking front to back? Did you consider wider feet, to help with that?

    • @niclasklinner.woodworker
      @niclasklinner.woodworker Месяц назад

      Thanks! 1 - The screw is there to make sure, that the end piece is not breaking off. 2- It is okay for myself, but it could be more stable, to be honest.

  • @jsmxwll
    @jsmxwll Месяц назад

    3:42 nice solution. i like to borrow the Japanese style of extending well past the leg and cutting an upward bevel sorta like torii gates. it also lets me extend stability to the top without making the legs super wide and without having a sharp corner hanging just under the edge from the through stretcher. it can be difficult if you want the legs wide but the top can only be a certain width. 7:48 the thing about doing it with the traditional chisel technique is you don't need jigs and your chisel is unlikely to get away from you and ruin the work like a router can. it is also good practice for dovetails. only difference is it really helps to put a relief cut in when you do dovetails. 10:09 if you want to stretch your skills, a tusked tennon would be a very good solution there for adding stability and keeping the joint tight even as the wood moves. great build. solves a problem and looks good. i am now a bit inspired. i've been putting off making a collapsible table for working at the couch that i can fit under the couch when not in use. now i have the inking of a design in mind. through stretchers, tusked tennon brace and C shaped base so it can partially slide under the couch while i use it. time to iterate. cheers.

    • @niclasklinner.woodworker
      @niclasklinner.woodworker Месяц назад

      Thanks for your input. I considered tusked tenon joints, but I didn't want to have small wood pieces laying around that could get lost over time. I just wanted as few parts as possible. It's not perfectly designed but it is okay for myself.

    • @jsmxwll
      @jsmxwll Месяц назад

      @@niclasklinner.woodworker for sure. you gotta make what works for you. a tusked tennon is a heck of a lot more work and easier to screw up as well. i've messed up plenty of them in my attempts. usually recoverable, but not always. remaking parts sucks. for storing the tusk, i like to make a second mortise in the legs that i can wedge my tusk into when it's not in use. lately though i've been doing things like cutting out an inlay that fits the tusk and putting a magnet in it and a bit of metal on the tusk to hold it there when it isn't holding the stretcher. i have a 3d printer to make accurate templates for that sorta stuff now so it's a heck of a lot easier to get right.

    • @niclasklinner.woodworker
      @niclasklinner.woodworker Месяц назад

      Yeah, they are a bit more work, but after some practice they aren't that difficult anymore. I had a short video that shows how I make them. Might be still somewhere on my instagram... 🤔 Would love to have a 3d printer, but honestly I didn't even the time yet to set up my little CNC that's sitting on the shelf for over a year now...

    Great maker content. I was wondering in the beginning, no brace, and then, viola, the brace appears. Functionality and ease of use putting it together. I am certain that there are customers for that, though, they might need a pin system for the brace, that would strengthen the whole thing. Also, probably some poly or wax finish for them. Not so much that it needs the pins (brass or steel), yet, …. customers can’t be trusted not to mess up in use. 😮😂 Thanks, enjoyed this.

    Preach on, brother! I started selling little planter boxes (the 3-picket ones that every RUclipsr has a video about). But I was selling a lot of them and that helped me pay for more/better tools. But I ended up feeling trapped by them. I wanted to branch out into different areas of woodworking, but was handcuffed by having to spend all my free time filling orders for the planters. It was a good problem to have, but it didn’t allow for the freedom to create something just to create it. I’ve since stopped making planters and have switched over to making wood sculptures and wall art. If those sell, great; if not, I at least will have spent my time creating something that I like.

      You're right. It sounds tempting to make some money with very simple WW projects, but you ca be very quickly burned out by the amount of work and also be bored out by repeating the same processes over and over again. I guess most of us do woodwork because it's always different.
