I can't hope that someday these lamps will make a comeback, but at least I hope they make orange LEDs.

indeed HPS are very bright and 70W gives a very strong light, and even more at 150 or 250W, a 70w HPS gives from 5000 lumens to about 7200! Mercury bulbs in no way compare to 80w, some even 125w, HPS are 2 to 2.5 times more efficient than MV ie mercury bulbs! in performance, HPS in some cases matches or even beats LEDs, especially HPS at 250,400,600 and 1000w where philips master son-t apia plus xtra 70=7200 lumens philips master son-t apia plus xtra 100w=11,550 lumens philips master son-t apia plus xtra 150w=18,200 lumens philips master son-t apia plus xtra 250=33,700 lumens, Sylvania shp-ts-shp-t basic plus 400w=57,500 lumens, philips master son-t pia plus 600w=89,800 and hortilux 1000w up to 145,000 lumens at maximum!! Wouldn't it be nice if the lighting companies started making these 2000K LED bulbs for outdoor street/roadway, area/site, and security/floodlighting to replicate sodium vapor? That would be a great idea, especially in an attempt to help protect the night skies and night wildlife friendly, and perhaps could help save the night skies. I honestly think that outdoor lighting should only be 2000, 2500, and 3000K, since they're on the warmer/yellower side of the spectrum and block out the blue-white light that otherwise contributes to light pollution. Now for historic buildings, streetlighting, and sports stadium/field lighting, then I think 3000K would be the way to go, since it would be dark sky friendly, but also provide higher quality color rendering and visual acuity, since they are warm white.

To me its look like the Philips MA90 Lanterns with 90w SOX or a 135W SOX LAMPs the ones I see in this video a different types sodium street lights back in 1994 when I stated collecting street light fixtures and Lanterns over since 30 years!

SOXs don't have good color, it's monochromatic, HPS is better color

I am also wondering if you also have any LED retrofit PL-L lamps that are designed to work with magnetic series choke ballasts since I am well aware of Europe having a good number of external starter preheat PL-L CFL fixtures and have been wondering about LED retrofit lamps that would work on those existing magnetic ballasts. So far, I have seen some of those LED retrofit PL-L lamps with LED starters on a German website before.

In professional use i am not convinced about this alternatives. Not only due to poor manufacturing but also due to age of the fixtures like problems with heat or broken parts, another problem is the installation due to shortage of manpower and low prices this is rushed and mistakes happen. In longer daily use they break down more often than the normal pll and son so I will not use them. The prices of the complete led unit we have commissoned are cheaper and they are more relaible. Why are they used by dutch councils, mainly because it is ridiculous to throw away a fixture with still 5-10 years of lifespan left if you also use the more expensive or a specific designed led fixture it is a economical choice to retrofit. Another possibility is the environment argument, replacement a fixture is replacing more material then used retrofit the lamp. I have some in my hobby collection just to spare on materials like son that, but they work fine for some time now, especially if you are short on ballast for a specific lamp.
