    I like both, the old MV lanterns are nice in historical city centers and the old sox fixtures are nice on bigger roads.

    In the UK, we call this style of lantern a 'heritage' lantern, as it is designed to look like the original Victorian gas and electric lanterns. We saw them with mercury vapour, fluorescent, SON, SOX, PL, and now LED. LED versions are still being made as if an old heritage lantern comes down, a new heritage lantern must go up!
    The bit on top of yours is a decorative finial. It serves no purpose other than decoration On some lanterns, it unscrews so you can remove the canopy.

      It's very likely yes, but the top doesn't seem to be made out of copper... which the Nood usually does.
