Which Electric Vehicle Is Superior: Polestar 2 Or Skoda Enyaq Coupe?
Recently I had to travel to South Wales to attend a conference. It would have taken too long to drive there and back, the train was too expensive and would have taken almost as long, so I flew with Easyjet and then hired a Polestar 2.
How did it compare with my Skoda Enyaq Coupe? Apologies but this is quite a long video, I will add chapters to help you quickly find the key points.

My channel exists purely to help those who have or are thinking about buying the Skoda Enyaq EV. I have been driving electric for 7 years now so I don't really know what it is that worries new owners or people yet to make the switch. So Let me know, what is it you would like me to cover in my next road trip video which i will film next week?

Like many of you I was baffled by the offer of a chance to have the otherwise free OTA updates on the Enyaq carried out (for a fee) at my dealership. So I asked my contacts at Škoda why they were offering this. I thought it would be useful to share their answers here.

Interior lighting- you press lightly the smaller reading lights on driver or passenger side. Holding them then adjusts the brightness. Same in the rear. The other light is only activated when open the doors.
@@michaelfulton5518 they must have been broken because nothing worked except opening the doors
Yeah, I always thought the interior lights were good. For the 360 camera if use again- can click any side of the image and then you see the image of that camera so rear, front, each side. Owned a P2 for 3 years alongside Enyaq. Was superb in the snow (Sweden). Now Enyaq and EX30.
Dual zone climate. If you hold down where the temperature is displayed then you can choose to split it and then displays same as Enyaq on both sides and stays that way.
Cruise control does adapt to speed limits on the 2024 model...(Enyaq)
@@shaunfinning3346 and on all enyaqs my point was the polestar doesn't
How on earth are you getting 4.2mpk at 6 degrees? I get about 2.6-2.8. 80x model
That was just on the short drive from the superchargers to the hotel. On my drive yesterday from Edinburgh to Manchester it was minus 4 and I got 3.4. Don't forget the X will be heavier too

Do you not find the car misting up without the AC on ?
No, not unless there's 3 of us in the car and we've got in with wet coats on
Thanks for another clear review!
Just my thoughts after 48 hours with it, not so much a complete review
Interesting video, I'm glad went for the enyaq. It has its limitations but comfort and quality of build is very good. I watching different videos I am constantly reminded why the 85 enyaq has such a good reputation ( compared to other ev's) My main disappointment is the lack of available information on the car. Power usage battery temperature ect This might be down to me. But I've not been able to find an app that will work with the enyaq.. There is a problem with Google maps not updating roads and bridges closed. Hopefully they will fix this .
Same here! Enyaq owner and exasperated with the app, it's infuriating.
Press the second button to the left of the volume knob to defrost the rear window and door mirrors. In the current software version, only Apple CarPlay is supported. Version 3.3.16 which has just been released, Android Auto is supported. Both only wired. To get back to the app (eg. Google Maps), when using either of the four views at the top of the center display (Camera view, Car functions, App view, User profiles) just press on the view highlighted in orange. You actually do it at 9:44 in the video. Tap on the temperature to disable synchronised temperature. The right-hand steering wheel keypad can be used to control media playback, like volume and prev/next. Preferred charging networks can be configured in Google Maps Switch camera by tapping either of the four camera buttons on the 360 overview. The climate control has an ECO mode, and the updated 2024 models is more efficient, and charges faster.
Interesting comparison of the car and the and the software system. The Polestar 2 was on my shortlist but it didn't meet the expectations that I had for it when I took it for a test drive. Some of the issues with the Android Auto would likely be resolved if you were the owner and able to connect to everything fully and use the app for the car too. I found it interesting the annoyances that you have found: lights, units, etc.
Re the clip for parking slips on the front windscreen I had them on a Volvo 940 many years ago so it is possible that Volvo had them before Skoda. I now have my new Skoda Enyaq and still learning where things are. Laura keeps offering me different services but whatever the other things are she doesn't manage to find my way home despite it being on the SatNav.
@@DavidAtkinson-cd3os interesting. They've been present in Škoda since 1998 but I had no idea others had them too
Google maps did the same to me coming back from Devon. I had to go over to South wales and down the M50. I should of listened to the skoda map that was only going to take me round Bristol.
whats it like in the snow or floods shoud i get the enyaq 2 wheel drive or the 4x4
It's not 4x4, the enyaq like most cars is AWD so 99% of the time it's RWD. Car is fine in snow but it really depends on the tyres as tyres are Wray grip the road not the car.
How many of your settings revert to their respective default each time you turn off the car? And how annoying is that? Do you simply resign and use the defaults or are there settings you change more or less each time you use the car? I understand that there are settings that have to be turned on for each drive by EU regulations (probably similar in the UK?) such as the speed warnings (and what else?), but what about other settings that are not mandatory? I'd like for the car to remember such things as the Eco mode setting and not turn it off if I have to stop and recharge along the way. And to keep the driver alert warning permanently off. Speed warnings are OK as long as they are not overly obtrusive and don't keep getting triggered if you set the cruise control to the permitted speed and the car coasts downhill with little or no regen. Is it still mandatory to accept conditions and click OK each time you start up the car (as I believe it was in an early Enyaq that I drove 1-2 years ago)?
@@user-sc3cy8mi5h all I really change is the heating and that stays his how I set it. The car is made in the EU so it complies with EU regulations and that includes GDPR which is why the person driving has to agree or reject their location and other data being processed.
Thank you for asking. What I would like to know is if there is a measurable difference in consumption between driving in Eco mode and Normal mode. I know Eco mode limits maximum power and speed, but does it also save energy driving ‘normally’?
@@RicoD5 you can do the same thing by being easy on the throttle, easing off the power when the car tells you to and not having the heating up full blast. Eco is just a short cut to doing those things
Found your channel fairly recently and find it quite informative. Due to watching your journey's I have bit the bullet and ordered a Skoda Enyaq. This is a little unnerving for me as I have never owned or driven an electric vehicle but feel the time is right to try one. Maybe this is a rash move but hay ho that's life take a risk and lick your wounds if it don't work out. Thanks for your video's and the work you put into them keep up the good work.
Glad you find them helpful. It's genuinely the best car I've ever had, and my previous car was a Tesla model 3 👌
Hi, as the temperatures drop could you give your tips thoughts on use of climate control and range? Keeping warm but minimising the impact on the battery.
I have to say that I have changed very little in how I plan my longer journeys with my EV in comparison to my previous Diesel car. Having an Enyaq 80IV is a big advantage because of its high range. The car is not the limiting factor on a long drive I have found that it us the humans that are the limiting factor, we need to stop for a toilet/ coffee/ meal break, we always have a plan A & B as far as stopping is concerned & the car will get a charge when we need a break. We have found very few occasions where we have had to stop purely because of the car, it is nearly always us that needs the break not the car.
indeed, we are the weakest link
This is an excellent site and it continues to teach me a lot in preparation for the delivery of our Skoda enyak So thank you very much and long may it continue
The question I have is about reliability. Especially batteries. What can buyers expect. Do batteries have issues like ice cars.
@@daveoconnor5084 the battery has an 8 year warranty, cars typically have 3 years. Draw your own conclusions.
@enyaq_gorm it's good to speak to owners. They can give you real information from their experiences. I'm trying to get this type of information to make an educated decision on my future vehicle. Sites like yours make this easier for someone like me who needs the reassurance from owners of EVs. Thanks for the time and effort you put into making it easier to find this info. Keep up the good work.
@@enyaq_gormWe should point out that is the warranty period not the life expectancy of the batteries
@brianstevenson9967 absolutely, just as cars last longer than 3 years of their warranty
I’ve come here as our next company car is either an Enyaq 80 or Octavia hybrid. As much as I love the Octy I’m very tempted by the Enyaq
Hybrid is the worst of both worlds. I owned 5 octavias, the enyaq is so much better
I drove Octavias for 8 years before getting an Enyaq 60 2.5 years ago. Although I was very satisfied with the Octavia, the drive in my Enyaq is better. Quieter, higher driving position, lots of power and well suited for long distance travel. The main obvious difference is range. With the (diesel) Octavia I could drive 900km easily, but with the Enyaq I stop every 2 hours for charging and stretching my legs. Far less stressful traveling. In day to day life, commuting to work and shopping, I also like the Enyaq. Pre-heating (or chilling) the interior, no driving to warm up the engine and very much fun to drive.
Could you perhaps give some insight into how a week or month in your car life would look *wthout* home charging? I'm hopefully taking delivery of an Enyaq 85 in a couple of weeks and I don't have the possibility of charging at home.
oh that's a huge topic, but for me is dead easy. There are government chargers near my office and I would just plug in there every day. 40p per kWh would be a lot more than the 7p I pay at home though
Please can you explain how enable the heating pump so the battery is warm prior to charging so you don’t have to do it manually
@@kaizermusaji25 OK I will put that on the list too
I like to use the paddles on either side of the steering wheel to slow the car progressively. My concern is that the vehicles behind might run into the back of my car if I don’t apply the brakes to warn them via the brake lights. Please can you show a video of the rear of your car whilst using the three levels of recuperative braking. This might tell me and others if the brake lights come on or not. Many thanks.
The brake lights do come on
The brake lights indeed come on every time deceleration comes above a certain level. No matter if you use the braking paddles, the footbrake or if the ACC slows the car. It’s mandatory. You can check yourself when you drive in the dark and look in your rear view mirror for a reflection of the braking lights.
Thank you. I was concerned about the high beam being on during the day. Thanks for all the videos you do.
I've had my 2021 Enyaq 60 for just coming up on a year, and also a Polestar 2 long-range 2024 as a works car. Got to admit I much prefer the Enyaq. When i first got an EV I was sure B would provide greater range due to regeneration, it took me a while to realise how wrong I was. Could you do a video, or part of a video on the benefits and challenges of both settings?
@@dm8431 now that is a top idea!

@ legend, thank you!
If anyone that is reading the comments and thinking about an EV do it, it’s not as hard as people say it is. I took my Enyaq VRS down to the south of France for our summer hold and did 2500miles with no problems at all. Just put my destination into the car sat nav and it worked it all out where and when to stop and for how long. Did 800 miles in a day driving down and agin on the home stretch averaged 75mph and 3.3 mpkw
@@michaelkember8102 absolutely. The fears people have aren't something I think about any more and these videos are really just to help new owners get to that same point where they just drive.
I have a Enyaq Sportline Plus with Crystal face and HUD. Had new from September. Just a quick question regarding matrix headlights. Do I put the headlights on full beam (blue light in display) and leave it like that all the while. Any advice would be appreciated.
Yes that will do all the matrix magic!
Yes but you have to activate them every time you turn on. Use them all the time in my VRS
Thank you.
Yes, but on twisty country roads where I live not too brilliant - I find the sensor isn't quite quick enough sometimes and do the job manually. The eye is often a better sensor when it comes to seeing round corners. That said, it's a fancy light show - you should try it in mist / fog to see just how smart it is. Pretty amazing.
I have an ID5 with auto lights just leave it on high beam and I will do it's magic automatically
Very interesting review thanks. How did you get on using the ENODE functionality with ABRP? Would you recommend and are you planning a video on it, if so? Cheers
it just works, hard to know what to do for a video really as you literally just tick a box and then forget it. Yes I would recommend it.
Thanks for the info. Please add to the charging situation, how much the charger company pre-authorised cost and how long it really takes to return any unused cost.
@@3002534 there was no pre authorisation, I used the tesla app and then plug and charge with the My Škoda App so that's was no need to pre authorise a card
Just in the last few revisions it has become a proper app that is much more responsive. Comms with the car tend to be quite slow but that is to be expected where I live!
@@RichardASlack you should have owned a Nissan leaf. The app used text messages to communicate with the car 😱
Seems like you've used about 7.5kwh for the 34 miles trip. Starting with 100% and ending with 88%, therefore using about 12% of the battery capacity, would indicate that your usable capacity is about 63kwh instead of 77kwh; assuming there isn't a case of high degradation, one of the measurements is inaccurate, the mpkwh consumption or the battery % is not linear, would you agree?
@@claudiudumitrascu5687 I think it's the consumption that's more likely to be off.
I am on 7.8.1 also and works great no lag and very responsive
Oh man. I forgot how terrible the road surfaces are back home. (85x L&K).
I think they say laggy, as in it is slow when sending a request to the car or receiving confirmation from it. Are you using MySkoda app or MySk9da Essentials app??
I don’t even use CarPlay anymore as the native apps in the Polestar do everything I want without even thinking about my phone. Integrated google maps with traffic and automatic charging routing is amazing. It’s a lot better than our Enyaq in this respect - although both are good cars for different reasons. The lights button should work, so not sure what happened with yours there. Occasional electronic glitches are usually sorted by an infotainment reset
@@Amcmammoth I used Google maps on the way back but I found it less easy to work out where the chargers were than on either ABRP or the naive enyaq system. I actually ended up in the corner of a grubby petrol station on a 50 kW charger. 😏
I always think about the heatpump buying range rather than saving money. When i bought my iv80 the range it gave you was approximately the same cost/mile as the difference in battery capacity (60/80) cost per mile. I was concerned about range at the time due to all the horror stories of public chargers. I wouldn't be as bothered now but dont regret having the heat pump.
@@Notagain640 my 60 I added a heat pump as I knew how my tesla suffered without one. But the 85 was pre configured and with the bigger battery it makes the car have longer range than my bladder even in winter 😂
Might not be a massive difference, but if it tips you over to having to pay Instavolt prices on longer trips, instead of charging at home, it adds up, surely?
@@MrWobling I use tesla or ionity never instavolt
What would you say is the best mode to drive in. I get nowhere near 3.3mpkwh in this cold weather (ave since June when we got the car is 3.2). Lucky to get 2.3 atm. . Around town, I have the clima off for the most part. Only blast occasionally when steaming appears. Mine is only the 60kw version but that really shouldn't make a difference to the mpkwh?? If anything should be better in a lighter car?
Just seen Ur Ave speed.... Not many stops on your commute then??? Mine is more like 12mph around town... Lots of Traffic &🚦
@@andymcdade7644 yes have a look at my videos from when I had a 60. I use D mode, auto regen, heating on manual with fan at 1. The biggest thing is to not accelerate hard and watch for the eco assist telling you when to lift off the accelerator
