"What If?" - 1745 Wargame Campaign, Battle Report 7
I believe Charlie Never forgave himself for not telling his Council that," they could do as they wished but He / I'm continuing on to London " Imo his commander's and willing troops would have had little choice but Perhaps it just never occurred to H R H once the decision had been made at Exeter House Derby .
Great summary of complicated maneuvers.
Bloody Brilliant!! can't wait for the next one! Many Thanks and Merry Christmas to you and your family, Aaron, and also to everyone involved in this excellent 'What If? 2'🎄🎅🥃👍
Excellent
Excellent video, very well presented. The British have been time and time again out maneuvered and the pretender has done a masterful job hiding his true intentions. From a campaign perspective it has been very exciting. Just not the same set piece battles that make for great videos. Yet presentations such as this one are a real joy to watch. It really pulls everything together and puts the sense of urgency to it all. Once again well done
Another great presentation. Loving it ... and I am watching from the other side of the world
Great stuff as usual Aaron. Was a bit disappointed in the presentation of the Dundee excursion though. There was a bit more to the thinking behind the operation than just ganging up on an isolated Jakey battalion.
@@paulkirk7120 of course, but it's hard to cover every nuance of thought when covering so much ground!
He's pure galllus, that yin.”……… that Bonnie Prince is a pretty slick strategist. Just hoping Cumberlands overwhelming numbers don’t eventually unhinge a brilliant Jacobite campaign. A campaign that can only ultimately be won by unseating the Hanoverian usurper…… the Jacobites really need to strike for London as quickly as possible and rouse the populous along the way! Good to see the Hessians out of the way……… no doubt George will call in other allies to assist?
There's ribeye on the roof. Talk about high steaks.
Very enjoyable as usual, Aaron, we'll played by the Jacobites, but will they come un stuck in the North East !
Movement, tactics, waiting to see what develops…
Great report Arran
@@peterweston189 trying to condense a lot of activity into a sensible summary!
Charles Never blamed " his " men - But with the likes of L G Murray insisting on calling the shots - What could be achieved ¿ .
It was a very great Honor to take part in this battle well done to everyone great time and great weekend
what they be a union had date
Lovely reenactment! The horses did quite well with all the noise.
It's looking so nice to see more then two or three dragoons. I know how difficult it is to get reenactors AND horses on events. It's a shame that the buildings in the background are somehow ugly for the picture. Great work. Unfortunately it's so far away. Cheers
@amtmannb.4627 yes getting the larger number of dragoons was a real treat. Their pre-battle drill and skill display was also excellent. And yes, the construction beyond the park is a shame but can't be helped - it should be less intrusive when finished for future events
It was an honour & a privilege to have taken part in this battle! Excellent video!
Absolutely absorbing is the only apt way to describe how you guys are presenting this. As an older war gamer, I love it. So need to get back to Scotland and walk some of this ground. I only saw Culloden, the Great Glen, Stirling and Edinburgh during a 10 day visit in 2019; clearly, I need to get to Fort William.
Can't see a jacobite victory now without foreign intervention
I do not think I'd want to be in that charge. My word it must have been death incarnate
The scots made a massive mistake apart if they can use it as a propaganda coup and recruit in the highland?
How did you make the fort btw?
Oh my. The irregularity of the uploads really are a blessing / curse. When will BOP upload next? Tomorrow? In 20 days? Never?
Wonderful stuff Aaron. Nail biting stuff with a first tactical win for the Council.
Excellent video! and very informative for the campaign! Also which Models are the Macleods Highlanders I cant seem to find them anywhere?
I think the MacLeods are "Flags of War" Jacobite "Highlander with muskets" models, painted in Government uniform
@Prestonpans1745 yep that's right. Maybe the odd sly one with broadsword too 🤔 😉
Great table, who makes the fort buildings? Close run battle the government forces must have dug out their reserve dice!
Much appreciated!
Really enjoying this and congratulations on the quality of your presentation
Oh dear oh dear....
Filing this one under Unforced Errors
A spectacular presentation and wargame...Thankyou for posting!
Well done, and thank you! That presentation was edge-of-your-seat drama of the first order. Per usum, the terrain and miniatures were outstanding, and I wager a few glasses of whiskey were consumed during and after such an excellent game. I can't wait to see what comes next!
Great update! What a nail-biting battle! Keep up the incredible work!
Team Stuarts of Appin all the way! I’m enjoying these battle reports 👍🏻
“Reckless” you say……. I’d say a pointless whittling away of Jacobite resources & effort. Great game and well presented - but strategic mistake. Objective here is to put Charlie boy on the throne of England. All this “distraction” plays into Hanoverian hands. Time is the enemy here. Maybe I’m getting too involved! 😊
Really good stuff , excellent video 😊
A bold move by the Jacobites to clear the North of those forts, perhaps it could lead to more Scots rallying to the cause? If Scotland was free of British troops, would it make a significant difference politically? Could the French land in support in Scotland in preparation for a push south?
why does the garrison not leave the gate open while the cannons are firing and close them as the infantry attacks ? is it because the gates are too heavy to close quickly ? I should mention another fun and intriguing campaign....cheers to you all.
@stephenpodeschi6052 a successful order roll on the tabletop could allow a unit to cover the ground in a single turn, so it would be too much of a risk in a turn-based game. The attackers had petards to try blowing the gate by hand if needed
Surely the defenders would have planned a better withdrawal with internal communications intact......
Nice - I do love a “coup de main”. Usually very difficult to achieve in a wargame. Masterly done. This is an excellent campaign. Again the Jacobite artillery have prove their worth! Wondering about the political background whilst these military actions take place? And all will come to nought unless the Hanoverians are defeated, there is a general Stuart Rising and the capital (London) taken.
Excellent once again! I’m really enjoying each report. Keep up the great work👍🏻
Excellent !
Very good addition to the campaign
Awesome moves from the scots. Cant wait for the next video
Great stuff.
Nice looking vauban fort model you have setup.
Excellent Arran these are very well received 👍 really enjoying these
Great update.
thanks for this.
Brilliant, but who in there right mind would build a fort below a hill 🤔 😮
@smakybumm1914 yes the original barracks was better sited in that sense, but was harder to resupply from the loch. All three Great Glen forts had positioning faults
A star fort overlooked by higher ground is reminiscent of Fort Beausejour. Located to guard the isthmus between Acadia (New Brunswick) and Nova Scotia, in the Seven Year's War it was successfully besieged by the British who deployed a battery on the hill overlooking the fort.
