Hi, long story short i fried my gba one day after sticking a pair of gator tweezer hooked up to the wall socket, just like the ones you are using to power it up,into the cartridge slot (yes, i know pretty dumb of me to do that, but i was just a curious teenager back then). Anyway, if i get a voltmeter where should i start checking and what values should i look for?

mine gets audio, i can select things with the controller, but the video is just static pixellated garbage and i cant tell what is going on. any ideas? i tried cleaning it and its the same

I got one doing the exact same thing, when I put a 3v battery pack on it turned on so it turn out to bee the battery contact

Great video, im not seeing any other comments with my issue though. Hopefully someone can reach out. Im playing a nba street 2 and it freezes everytime i play a match in a certain part. All i have seen online is that the disc may be the issue but the disc is pretty much flawless idk what to do and any feedback would be appreciated.

Okay, I've got sound and input on my recapped Game Gear, but no video, and the contrast wheel doesn't do a bloody thing. Are new fuses likely to fix this? What fuse do I use? (Hey, that rhymed!)

It's always a relief knowing other people have problems fixing this old equipment. My system isn't showing a screen after a recap, either. I'm thinking maybe it's the fuses, or I did the caps wrong, or that I'd be better off just replacing the screen with something more modern (and visible).

I recently tried this and the pads on the board complete disapeared. Is there another place where I can jump it? I can find no schematic for the GC anywhere.

This method of cleaning the antenna in the receiver fixed my issue immediately. But it only lasted for about 10 minutes until it got disconnected....i'll try taking apart the controller and cleaning the antenna in there too next. Thanks for the very informative video, I think this has put me on the right path to troubleshooting the issue.

Make sure you test it a lot with a game with heavy cutscenes like Mario sunshine to ensure the disc reader is powerful enough. At first it seemed like I fixed it until it gave me a disc read error at a cutscene.

i would just keep hard turning it on and off untill it would read and rubbed it hard AF, abusing my gamecube in to working is the only was so as not to spend 150 on a new one

You could have left the old fuse and just soldered the new fuse on the other side. Saving you headache

How did you remove the corrosion on the pins connecting the av port to the board? The 5 pins on the top right?

Mine was reading 190 ohms and I did a recap using a console 5 and it wouldn't read discs until I got it down to 112 ohms. I triedit again a few days later and it wouldn't read the discs until I cleaned the lens with ipa. I"m not sure if the laser is just super dirty. if it stays consistent I may adjust the resistance up to avoid burning the laser out

I was playing and all of a sudden a loud buzzing sound happened and then the video disappeared (white flash like). Tried buying a new AV cable, didn’t work. Still powers on but I guess before cracking it open and going through all this, is it savable? :/

Ugh, this is beyond me. I can see now why they want to charge me the big bucks ($800 m. pesos). This would be well spent money for the game gear, but I have only one game; the same one you have. It goes back on the shelf.

I found my controller and when I plug it in it turns off my GameCube and it’s the only one that does it, trying figure out how to fix it but idk 🤷‍♂️
