0:31 This was very informative and a real solid option compared to adjusting the potentiometer. If I can add anything regarding the instructions, it would be to go into more detail when installing the capacitors in regards to their polarity. Great content regardless. Thanks!
Hi there, what would your troubleshooting tree look like for a gamecube that can't read discs? Would you replace the capacitors before or after replacing the laser?
Haven't touched my GC in a few years (5 or so), and when I bought an HDMI adapter for it I decided to play with it again. I was surprised when I found it could still read game discs, but not my burned DVD-R containing Swiss, which it could read perfectly before. Even playing games, the drive isn't happy and makes snapping noises all the time. I'll give this a go! :)
Are there specific signs that indicate that the caps need to be replaced? I’ve repaired a number of GameCubes now but I’ve never done this. I know the typical problem with the GameCube is the discs don’t read. In all but one instance I’ve always done the pot tweak and it worked. Could it be that the one instance needed the caps replaced?
mine runs on 22 ohms. if i switch the capacitors will it fix all my problems? and run on a regular ohms #? i bought a another gamecube. but JPN gamecube off ebay but was unaware it only runs japanese games. its possible to modify it and chabge regions but thats more money on the tools than possibly 2-3 tools to just switch capacitors on my US gamecube. PLS LMK!! 😭
Can you tell me how to fix a DOL-101 model GameCube. When I turn the GameCube on it spins a disk for maybe 5 seconds & stops spinning then pops up on a tv screen GameCube memory I’ve tried cleaning the laser lens, checked the caps on the motherboard, & reset the potentiometer, but none of those have fixed it. It’s still the exact same thing.
This might be due to a faulty reader altogether, I also had problems like this in the past where I just replace the laser lens after caps have been fully replaced. I wish I had a better answer, but I don't want to say that it is that 100% for sure, but generally that's the issue.
Excuse me. I found your video very informative, but I don't have the means to replace the capacitors on my own(tools wise). If you're willing, I'd like to send in my GameCube. I can pay shipping plus whatever you may charge for the work. Thank you!
You don’t need fancy equipment or heat gun just a soldering iron, look up vids on how to do it heat each side of cap while slowly moving it off, if u somehow break it they sell replacement drive pcbs. if not there are lots of people willing to do this service. Seems like this guy doesn’t offer it
do you happen to fix others gamecubes? i'm truly considering shipping you my gamecube to get the capacitors replaced and i'd pay however much id have to. please lmk!!! i've commented on another video of yours mentioning how i managed to fix the potentiometer but only runs on 22 ohms. will changing the capacitors help the potentiometer run on a reasonable ohms or is that a seperate case in its own?
i'd love to be able to email and reach out to you though as to which item is which on your links. example, im not sure if the IPA is what you used to clean after u took the capacitors off. 😅im unexperienced and going off of your videos solely!
It may be related to other components seeing how low the potentiometer is set. I don’t have a shop of any kind, I only do this as a hobby, but I might consider fixing it as long as the shipping costs are covered, free of charge.
@@totalfix877 i hear ya, sounds good to me. i am on the verge of buying snother gamecube that DOES work so if that doesnt work out, i will keep it touch. thank you!!!
This was great! I Didn't know capacitors could end up making the disc reader stop from reading discs! Remarkable!
Been watching your vids for a couple of days, they're really really helpful. I hope you start getting more attention, awesome channel :)
Glad you like them! 😀
What airflow and temp did you use for your hot air station? I need to do this on a GC when my caps come in.

Thanks for sharing! I will keep that in mind for future videos. Thanks for watching!
Hot air temp for removing caps?

Hello, what size are the security bit screwdrivers? I need to buy them to fix my son’s GameCube and want to make sure I get the right ones. Thanks!

Great video! I've replaced the capacitors on all my gamecubes myself. :]
That's awesome! The work may be time consuming, but it's always better to replace the capacitors after some time anyway. Thanks for watching! 😀
how do you know the capacitors are the issue? why not turn the adjuster on the other side?

dont you just have to rebridge a solder connection on the motherboard to change regions?

Hey big man! Whats the gel/liquid you apply before resoldering the capacitors back on? :)
It’s called flux!
Hello, I have a gamecube that cannot read disks, I think the laser is dying. Is it possible if you can fix it? Thanks for your time !

My apologies, I will make sure to lower it down in future videos.
