Should YOU buy the 2024 Canyon Endurace?
A friend of mine just purchased the new Canyon Endurace, so I had the chance to try it out.
It's an awesome bike. Super snappy, yet smooth, and very fun to ride. However, I felt it was a bit aggressive to be truly considered an endurace bike.
More details in the video.

Trek Domane SL5 vs Aero Bike: SPEED TEST

CORRECTION: At 4:36 I mention the difference in wattage was 14 watts, but I meant to say 18 watts! I compare the 2023 Trek Domane SL5 against in a speed test against an all out aero race bike, in this case, the 2020 Cervelo S3. The results really surprised me. what size for 170cm (5.7) \ 80-81cm(31.5) inseam?
Canyon would probably tell you XS, but I've found that they tend to run small on their recomomendations. So if I were you, I'd try a size S.
@@hikerbikeromar thank you for answer, torso 58 arms 60 i think, asking because ETT 550 of ennother bike turned out to be too long
how many bikes does my man have.......😳......lets take out the Porsche next time and do a comparison
Thank you very much for this information.. others can give examples, my English is very bad.. I have been looking for information about the bike for a long time because I want to buy it and until now I wasn't sure whether it should be the Sl5 or Sl6 because it's about 600€ more.. so it will be the Sl5, thanks again and a happy new year
Thanks for watching! It’s an amazing bike, you’ll love it
Omar: what type / brand of floor bike stand are you using in this video? Thanks (also owner of a Domane SL5)
Hey man, it’s a Topeak Lineup Stand (www.topeak.com/global/en/product/1670-LINEUP-STAND). It’s really great.
This bike has everything you don't want on your bike. Round seatpost? Easily swapable stem? Different fork?
Trek continues to downgrade the gearing on their FX bikes and now the latest 2025 version of the FX4 is a 10 speed with Cues gearing. This will not go unnoticed with the buying public. Look around for the best deals before buying.
100% agree!
Hi Omar, did you use a different stem? My bike has a less upright stem that yours and I would love to make it higher. Please respond
@@thecyclingpablo yes the bike shipped with the Trek RCS Pro Blendr -7 stem, but I simply swapped it out with the +7 degree version (www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/equipment/cycling-components/bike-stems-accessories/bike-stems/trek-rcs-pro-blendr-stem/p/5274582/?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAmrS7BhBJEiwAei59i5E-T3PiE6BiwHShuMEF8sQb22d0Hgx3nEQQ7Fw0adsxOjDXqXWs_xoC_AkQAvD_BwE)
@@hikerbikeromarthank you. I actually commented prematurely as I found the details in the later portion of your video and have now ordered the +7 stem too. Was it difficult to swap out? I'm thinking just a partial cable rerouting around the cockpit?
Sounds great! Happy to help. No it was not very difficult to swap out. As you mentioned, there is some rerouting of the cables under the stem you have to do, but it’s pretty straightforward. I remember the cables being fairly stiff to work with, so positioning the stem around them took some time and patience, but absolutely do-able.
Omar .. i need your advice .. currently i have a BASSO bike with tiagra groupset.. my friend ordered a new bike and he wants to sell his bike .. It's Domane SL 6 AXS Gen 4 ) in very good condition.. first question: Do you recommend upgrading my bike with this one ..second, what's the affordable price to buy it??🧧🧧🧧🧧
Hey man, good questions. If you can get it for a good price, I think it would be an awesome upgrade. If you are really into cycling, I think you'll enjoy the carbon fiber frame and electronic groupset more than the BASSO, which I assume is probably aluminum? Brand new, the Domane SL 6 AXS Gen 4 is selling on sale for $4k. If your friend were to sell it to you for $3k, I think it would be a good price and I would go for it personally. Feel free to keep me posted!
@hikerbikeromar actually my Basso is a carbon frame except the wheels.. my friend asked for 3500$. may I go for it but for lower than this price .. im thinking for 3200$ taking into consideration its equipped with SRAM RIVAL 12 Speed
@@saadesam8743 Ah it's carbon, ok. What is the main reason for wanting to upgrade? Is it mainly the electronic shifting? Also just curious, what is the exact model name of the BASSO you have?
@hikerbikeromar very good questions ! My bike is BASSO Laguna 2018 its discontinued model from Basso ..why i need to upgrade ? i don't know..just go for new model bike with disc break..an electronic shifting not a big issue for me .. that's why I'm asking.. its it worthy to upgrade? especially if I can get with very good price.. i will not pay 3500$ for it
@@saadesam8743 I gotcha! Makes sense. If it were me, I'd probably upgrade for the wider tire clearance, the electronic shifting, and the downtube storage. If those things are meaningful to you, then I think it's definitely worth it. Of course, I am assuming the tire clearance on the BASSO is around 25mm or so, but maybe it's more? $3200 I think is still a decent deal yes, but I probably would not pay more than that. Just my opinion though!
You are correct that this bike, which I recently purchased, is a little bit of everything, but that's actually what I was looking for. Having rode a race bike for years (Kestrel Legend w/Ultegra), and having turned 55 years old, I decided that I needed something a little more upright. My bike, which is a lower tier model (CF7 w/Shimano 105 manual) is much more comfortable to ride, has a wider gear ratio than my older bike so climbing is easier, but I still have the 52-11 top end which allows me to attack the long flats. I got it for about $2400 during a sale so this is about 1/3 of the cost of the bike you tested. I'd rather put that savings towards other items I want to upgrade such as a new computer/GPS, storage bags, and the like. The CF7 has mounts for a top tube bag, which I agree with you is much better than the slender internal storage, so score a win for the lower tier model. If you're like me and you're more interested in racking up miles than winning races, but you still want to go fast, this bike is a good choice for you.
Thanks for sharing!
Hey maybe u can help. I want this bike, but im torn between a Medium or Large. I’m 6ft and currently on a Domane 58cm. Would u recommend the medium or large for me? The website says a medium but idk.
I’m 6”1 and their website also recommended medium for me. I went with large and was happy with it. I think a medium would definitely have been way too small. I’m not sure why they seem to recommend smaller sizes. I think you’ll be happier on a large rather than a medium.
Thank you so much. I figured that.
On sale….all out of stock lol
6:35 what if any bike components are not made overseas? I mean, that frame is made in taiwan too. even the more premium 01 ONE frame is made overseas in Taiwan. I personally bought a couple carbon wheelsets from LightCarbon in Xiamen and they are excellent.
Oh absolutely. Most stuff is certainly made overseas and much of it is awesome. The part I was trying to lean into more was just about the generic nature of some of the components. But you’re definitely right that making something overseas does not make it automatically low quality.
Nice review, thanks!
Thank you for watching!
"We Americans have heard that there are..." Lol xD
Great video, and accurate.
Thank you for all the information. It's a big help for me to get ready for a MS150 ride. What size tire are you riding with or recommend?
Thank you for watching! I was riding 28mm, but as of recently, I’d probably even go 30mm since it’s more comfortable and I have not noticed any reduction in speed.
@@hikerbikeromar Much appreciated! I was at a toss between 32 and 30mm. My local shop only has 30mm atm so was settling for those.
@BrentleyPursley Awesome! I really think 30 is perfect.
@@hikerbikeromar Been riding almost a week with the 30mm now. I have to say I've really been enjoying them. Did a 50mile break-in ride and wasn't strained or jarring. Was just a really comfortable ride. Thank you for the advice!

@@JibbaJabber Sounds amazing! Awesome setup, and I love the versatility!
Shoutout to the red Porsche. My guy only ride with style!
I would probably add something to protect the brake discs, and also think a bit about what would happen in case of emergency braking with the car. How can the bikes and wheels be better secured from flying forward?
Awesome video - under appreciated bike, I have the AL version, running 40C Maxxis Reaver, 105 12-speed and bike is super capable
Super cool setup! Love that kind versatility of the Domane.
17:14 OmG. That’s way too upright for me. 😮😅
Hey, which bars do you have on the Domane as they look a bit more like aero bars, and did they mess with how the cables are routed at all? Also, What computer mount do you have on the Domane, and do you have any recommendations for the most integrated Wahoo mount? Something that could just attach to the front of the stem. I just got a Domane SL5 Gen 4 and super excited!
Those are the Enve SES In Route Aero handlebars. They didn't change at all how the cables were routed. I didn't have to do any brake bleeding to get them to fit, but I just ran the cables underneath the bars. You can run the cables through the bars if you want, but that would of course require brake bleeding, and would be more of a hassle. I was using a makeshift computer mount that wasn't really meant for the Domane. I'd just recommend going with the standard Bontrager Pro Blendr Alloy Computer Mount (www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/equipment/bike-accessories/bike-computers-gps/bike-computer-sensors-accessories/bike-computer-mounts/bontrager-pro-blendr-alloy-computer-mount/p/37802/). Of course, you'll need to get the appropriate computer plate and stem mount if you don't already have those. Congrats on the purchase! It's seriously an amazing bike.
Hi. Thanks for a great review:) as I am considering this bike and comparing all the data, I am a bit lost on your take on the race position VS Domane. According to 99spokes the stack/reach ratio is actually higher than the new domane and according to most other reviews the new endurace got a lot of praise because it is raising the stack and lowering the reach according to other models. i also got the impression the new endurace 23/24 have higher ratio vs old. But again, nothing beats the real life experience of actually testing them out which unfortunately is the major downside with Canyons business model. Anyhow, thanks for your review it is valuable
Thanks for watching! Looking at the geometry numbers, the Domane looks slightly more relaxed than the Endurace, but the differences are small. However, like you said, sometimes the numbers don't seem to always give the whole story. Strangely, in my experience, the Domane feels way more relaxed and comfortable than the Endurace even though the numbers don't seem very different on paper. It's strange! The Domane can be customized to be more aggressive too though. I personally prefer the Domane, but both are amazing bikes at the end of the day, and the price of the Endurace being so much cheaper is something to conisder too. Appreciate your comment.
Thank you for your honest review it helps👍
Thanks for watching!
Stupid vid
Found 6 gen4 for 2350... But seatpost being proprietary is a big bummer. Seems like it slips just like other D-shaped proprietary seatposts that other manufacturers use.
What aero handlebar are you using? Trek told me there is none compatible…
I’m using the Enve Aero SES In Route handlebar. Any Aero handlebar should work as long as it’s not a one piece stem/handlebar combo.
I'd like to hear you guys thoughts on Radon R1 or Cube Attain SLX. Both are at the moment under 1500 price point. Planning on buying my first road bike soon 🙂
So many wannabe ciclists, buying and not being. Go freaking training. And quit eating burguers.😅 Having the bike don't make you a ciclist.
They need to get more bikes for you, but they probably don't want to...😂. Great review!!!
haha thank you!
Very good video, thanks! From the perspective of this as a more racy/aero endurance bike, what is the biggest difference between this and the BMC Roadmachine which seem to also have those characteristics as per your previous video? In what scenario would you prefer one over the other?
Great question! I found myself asking the same, and rode the two bikes back to back quite a bit to determine the same thing. I found the Canyon to be more agile and snappy than the BMC. I could whip the Canyon around corners and bring it up to speed a little quicker than the BMC. The BMC I found to be a bit more stable and predictable and a tad slower in it's handling. It was still a very snappy bike, in the sense that it responds quick to input, but the Canyon had a little more of that. That said, I definitely found the BMC to be more comfortable for sure, and even though I felt the Canyon was more responsive, the difference between the two wasn't huge. The BMC seemed to smooth the road out more, and I would undoubtedly prefer the BMC for longer rides especially. I had a buddy of mine try both bikes as well, and their conclusion was the same. Both of us walked away definitely preferring the BMC over the Canyon due to it's comfort, but both are amazing bikes, and I think it all is down to personal preference. Thanks for watching!
@@hikerbikeromar Thank you for the response! Have you had the opportunity to test the new 2024 version of the Roadmachine as well? Based on the marketing my guess is that it is even more comfort focused than the 2023 version - so i wonder if the snappy feeling you describe has been compromised?
@@agy0704 Oh man, that's a great question! I've been wondering the same thing for a while. I did actually get the chance to try the new 2024 BMC with Ultegra di2 the other day, but it was just in a parking lot of a bike shop. I didn't get to really put it through its paces, but from what I could tell, it didn't feel any less snappy than the 2023 version. Like you said, on paper, it seems like it is literally the perfect bike, geometry wise and handling wise. I think it has the potential to even become my new favorite, but I'm really just speculating. If you get the chance to try it more than I did, let me know!
It's funny that this bike isn't well suited for climbing. Because I see the Visma Lease-a-Bike guys climbing on this thing all the time. They actually don't use their R5's nearly as much as I think they should.
True, although I believe their gearing is fairly different.
Good vid, the only factor is the weight, 19 lbs is heavy.
Awesome review, thanks for sharing
Interesting . I tried Endurance Ultimate and Aeroad in Koblenz Canyons Showroom last week and the Aeroad is very similar to Ultimate but the Endurance has more comfort and has bigger frame than two others . I tried Endurance in 2Xl and Xl because I am between the sizes and XL is my side but Ultimate Aeroad 2XL fit me better . My old 2017 Endurance is more like the new Ultimate . But these are just my impressions from trying on these bikes.
I have the old Endurace 2018 disc model. I’m considering buying a new bike, but are unsure wether the new Endurace is too relaxed and the new Aeroad maybe more similar my old bike?
This bike blows
I ordered the Endurace CF 8Di2 in the color coconut on Monday and since Wednesday I can call it my own. I had also considered the Domane, but found the way the seat post was attached strange. I particularly like the plain paint job on Canyon. I'm not super fit and wanted a sporty endurance bike and I don't own any other racing bike, so this intermediate range is just right for me. It seems as if the reasons that make you doubt it are exactly what I want😅. But I agree with you, this flap for the remote control belongs in the down tube. I'm glad that my version has screws on the top tube instead. Today is my first opportunity to put this beauty to the test. Wish me luck :)
Awesome color! For sure you'll love it, it's a great bike, and so much of it is just personal preference. Defintely a sporty bike for sure. Indeed wishing you luck on your inaugural ride!
@@hikerbikeromarthank you. Now it is done and it was just a great experience ❤
@Carbonoora so happy to know it!
Have you considered reviewing older bikes? I just finished upgrading a Cannondale CAAD10 with modern components (SRAM Force AXS, HED wheels, Conti GP5K tires) and it is easily my favorite bike I have ridden in years, possibly all time. No modern bike I've ridden - including Specialized Aethos, Roubaix, Allez Sprint, C'dale CAAD13 - has the combination of comfort and snappiness that the older CAADs have. In comparison to modern bikes, they are definitely harsher riding (28mm tires alleviate a lot of that), but the flipside to that is near-telepathic handling - the bike responds to your slightest movement and the connection to the road is unreal. This might be considered twitchy to some, but the handling feel is something I feel like more people need to experience, as it is nearly non-existent in modern bikes. I'm in agreement with Durianrider on this - older bikes have a certain pop to them that modern bikes simply do not have. Kind of ironic - since my CAAD9 got stolen, I got a CAAD13, Aethos, and test rode many modern bikes in attempt to replace it. The only thing that really replaced it was it's successor.
Sounds like an awesome CAAD10! I've begun developing a similar opinion to you actually. A couple of the people I ride with have let me try out their older bikes, and I agree that they have a certain magic that many modern bikes don't have. There seems to be more of an authenticity to older bikes that is hard to find in modern bikes (unless I am just getting old?). I haven't really considered reviewing the older bikes though simply because I don't think those videos would get many views. I've had other people advise to do so, so perhaps I will at some point.
@@hikerbikeromar maybe if more people voice their opinion, bike companies will take notice and consider making bikes like they used to. The industry is in trouble anyway - why not see if making better bikes helps? 😀
This is the greatest bike to ever be put on this earth!!!!!!
🤣🤣🤣
Hey buddy! Good to hear from u!!!!! Beautiful bike. Im afraid i would break it. LOVING THE CHECKPOINT!!!! Trek has some explaining to do on their prices, but they do fit like a glove. Hard to explain. Its like i get into the bike instead of getting onto the bike? Anyway, see you on the next one 😊
Hey man! Nice to hear from you. And good to know about the checkpoint! I’m in the market for a gravel bike. Now your comment has me wanting to try the checkpoint for sure :)
@@hikerbikeromar my parameters for any gravel bike includes a T47. It just works. My press fit giant revolt struggles with mechanical shifting. The other 3 with T47 do not?
@universe-juice totally hear you, big fan of T47 as well.
Such an interesting perspective - I'm currently deciding between the Canyon Endurance and the Trek Domane and your review has left me unsure of what to purchase. Having watched your Trek Domane video I was sure that was the bike to get, but now watching this video and you've stated the Canyon is racy and an all-rounder leans me back to the Endurance. I bought the Canyon Grail and found that bike was too slow and not comfortable for rides longer than 40 mins. Is comfort a priority - yes 100%, however personally I personally do not want to lose speed, while also gaining the benefits of a bike that can do off road when needed. Decisions, decisions!
I hear you! It’s getting increasingly tough nowadays to make decisions on these things, because most bikes are fantastic. Between the Domane and the Endurace, I personally would prefer the Domane. It’s a fantastic all rounder too, and can be setup to be a speed machine with the right configuration. I felt the Domane fit more like a glove and felt very organic, whereas the Endurace just in general felt a little less natural. Thanks for watching!
If speed is important to you, think twice about purchasing a Domane depending on the model. I am in my 4th season of riding a Gen 3 Domane SL6 and the lack of responsiveness and the energy I have to expend to keep it up to speed (19-21mph)is my biggest complaint about the bike. I did upgrade to Aeolus Pro 51 wheels which makes a noticeable difference. Now the Gen 4 is lighter than the Gen 3 and might also be quicker. And if you are thinking of going with an SLR model Domane speed will not be an issue for you. The other metric to consider is stack to reach ratio. The lower the ratio the more racey the bike. For example, a 58 Domane has a 1.6 ratio, a 58 Endurace has a 1.57, and Specialized’s race bike the Tarmac has a 1.43. You can find the stack and reach figures by looking at the geometric figures that are included with the specs of the bike. I’m moving on from the Domane and thinking Endurace, Roubaix, or Aethos.
@@johnvandermause9218 Thanks for the info - I'm slowly steering away from the Domane atm. The price is offputting and another review mentioned the bolt through decouplers leads to a creek and needs to be disassembled, regreased and reassembled. I was aiming for the SLR 7 from a reputable bike shop at 41% discount, but that price also has me questioning the value and the Canyon SLX (with bike theft insurance and maintenance) still comes out cheaper. I love to hear which bike you choose in the end.
I would't put a 35 on this bike either. And totally love the Sram red! Great review 👏
Frist comment, keep up the good work. Love your content.
Thank you very much!
Always put through axles straight back into the frame/forks as soon as the wheel is out & there is no need to completely remove quick release axles from the wheels on the MTB, no chance of losing them then & ruining the trip. Good video, time consuming though. You can fit all of that in much quicker with the back seats dropped & still no need to move the passenger seat forward.
WoW! That’s Awesome! I Loved it! 🫶🏻🤩❤️✨
I bought this bike last week. Coming from an Aethos, I just want something stiffer and more "race" oriented. So far, love it. I test rode a SL8 and it didn't wow me. Opted for the force build with the reserve wheels. First ride showed a higher average speed than the Aethos and the same comfort.
How tall are you and what is your inner leg length? Have you considered size 60?
I am 185 cm tall with an 86.5 cm inseam. The 58 works for me but yes in retrospect, I think the 60 would have been better. I am sort of in between sizes, but I would have gone with the 60 if I could do it over again.
nice looking bike, but does that 58 feel like a "dog" of a frame i wonder? that's gotta be kinda heavy no?
Suprisingly, no. I too thought it might feel that way, but on the contrary, it felt extremely snappy, almost like a lightweight climbing bike.
i think they're maybe too heavy for such a premium bike and for the asking price; kind of unfortunate. even when going with the 01 ONE equipped with sram red axs.. how to shave off some weight on this i wonder. a size 54 01 ONE with just assioma pedals and a 2 super light supa caz bottle cages and an outfront mount and a rear light, the stock 2023 01 ONE is just shy of 8kg. about 17.5lbs. hmmm. marketing the roadmachine as a do it all, but probably not ideal for race or climbing; not sure.
Unless you’re a professional racer chasing podiums, weight just doesn’t matter. Even for serious amateurs, it’s been proven over and over and over again that, all other things being equal, comfort and aero have a way bigger impact to make you faster.
no worries about aerodynamic drag or theft ... very resourceful
