- A friend of mine just purchased the new Canyon Endurace, so I had the chance to try it out.
It's an awesome bike. Super snappy, yet smooth, and very fun to ride. However, I felt it was a bit aggressive to be truly considered an endurace bike.
More details in the video.
Hi. Thanks for a great review:) as I am considering this bike and comparing all the data, I am a bit lost on your take on the race position VS Domane. According to 99spokes the stack/reach ratio is actually higher than the new domane and according to most other reviews the new endurace got a lot of praise because it is raising the stack and lowering the reach according to other models. i also got the impression the new endurace 23/24 have higher ratio vs old. But again, nothing beats the real life experience of actually testing them out which unfortunately is the major downside with Canyons business model. Anyhow, thanks for your review it is valuable
Thanks for watching! Looking at the geometry numbers, the Domane looks slightly more relaxed than the Endurace, but the differences are small. However, like you said, sometimes the numbers don't seem to always give the whole story. Strangely, in my experience, the Domane feels way more relaxed and comfortable than the Endurace even though the numbers don't seem very different on paper. It's strange! The Domane can be customized to be more aggressive too though. I personally prefer the Domane, but both are amazing bikes at the end of the day, and the price of the Endurace being so much cheaper is something to conisder too. Appreciate your comment.
This is the greatest bike to ever be put on this earth!!!!!!
🤣🤣🤣
Thank you for your honest review it helps👍
Thanks for watching!
Have you considered reviewing older bikes? I just finished upgrading a Cannondale CAAD10 with modern components (SRAM Force AXS, HED wheels, Conti GP5K tires) and it is easily my favorite bike I have ridden in years, possibly all time. No modern bike I've ridden - including Specialized Aethos, Roubaix, Allez Sprint, C'dale CAAD13 - has the combination of comfort and snappiness that the older CAADs have. In comparison to modern bikes, they are definitely harsher riding (28mm tires alleviate a lot of that), but the flipside to that is near-telepathic handling - the bike responds to your slightest movement and the connection to the road is unreal. This might be considered twitchy to some, but the handling feel is something I feel like more people need to experience, as it is nearly non-existent in modern bikes. I'm in agreement with Durianrider on this - older bikes have a certain pop to them that modern bikes simply do not have. Kind of ironic - since my CAAD9 got stolen, I got a CAAD13, Aethos, and test rode many modern bikes in attempt to replace it. The only thing that really replaced it was it's successor.
Sounds like an awesome CAAD10! I've begun developing a similar opinion to you actually. A couple of the people I ride with have let me try out their older bikes, and I agree that they have a certain magic that many modern bikes don't have. There seems to be more of an authenticity to older bikes that is hard to find in modern bikes (unless I am just getting old?). I haven't really considered reviewing the older bikes though simply because I don't think those videos would get many views. I've had other people advise to do so, so perhaps I will at some point.
@@hikerbikeromar maybe if more people voice their opinion, bike companies will take notice and consider making bikes like they used to. The industry is in trouble anyway - why not see if making better bikes helps? 😀
Awesome review, thanks for sharing
I ordered the Endurace CF 8Di2 in the color coconut on Monday and since Wednesday I can call it my own. I had also considered the Domane, but found the way the seat post was attached strange. I particularly like the plain paint job on Canyon. I'm not super fit and wanted a sporty endurance bike and I don't own any other racing bike, so this intermediate range is just right for me.
It seems as if the reasons that make you doubt it are exactly what I want😅.
But I agree with you, this flap for the remote control belongs in the down tube. I'm glad that my version has screws on the top tube instead. Today is my first opportunity to put this beauty to the test. Wish me luck :)
Awesome color! For sure you'll love it, it's a great bike, and so much of it is just personal preference. Defintely a sporty bike for sure. Indeed wishing you luck on your inaugural ride!
@@hikerbikeromarthank you. Now it is done and it was just a great experience ❤
@Carbonoora so happy to know it!
Interesting . I tried Endurance Ultimate and Aeroad in Koblenz Canyons Showroom last week and the Aeroad is very similar to Ultimate but the Endurance has more comfort and has bigger frame than two others . I tried Endurance in 2Xl and Xl because I am between the sizes and XL is my side but Ultimate Aeroad 2XL fit me better . My old 2017 Endurance is more like the new Ultimate . But these are just my impressions from trying on these bikes.
I have the old Endurace 2018 disc model. I’m considering buying a new bike, but are unsure wether the new Endurace is too relaxed and the new Aeroad maybe more similar my old bike?
I would't put a 35 on this bike either. And totally love the Sram red! Great review 👏
Such an interesting perspective - I'm currently deciding between the Canyon Endurance and the Trek Domane and your review has left me unsure of what to purchase. Having watched your Trek Domane video I was sure that was the bike to get, but now watching this video and you've stated the Canyon is racy and an all-rounder leans me back to the Endurance. I bought the Canyon Grail and found that bike was too slow and not comfortable for rides longer than 40 mins. Is comfort a priority - yes 100%, however personally I personally do not want to lose speed, while also gaining the benefits of a bike that can do off road when needed. Decisions, decisions!
I hear you! It’s getting increasingly tough nowadays to make decisions on these things, because most bikes are fantastic.
Between the Domane and the Endurace, I personally would prefer the Domane. It’s a fantastic all rounder too, and can be setup to be a speed machine with the right configuration.
I felt the Domane fit more like a glove and felt very organic, whereas the Endurace just in general felt a little less natural.
Thanks for watching!
If speed is important to you, think twice about purchasing a Domane depending on the model. I am in my 4th season of riding a Gen 3 Domane SL6 and the lack of responsiveness and the energy I have to expend to keep it up to speed (19-21mph)is my biggest complaint about the bike. I did upgrade to Aeolus Pro 51 wheels which makes a noticeable difference. Now the Gen 4 is lighter than the Gen 3 and might also be quicker. And if you are thinking of going with an SLR model Domane speed will not be an issue for you. The other metric to consider is stack to reach ratio. The lower the ratio the more racey the bike. For example, a 58 Domane has a 1.6 ratio, a 58 Endurace has a 1.57, and Specialized’s race bike the Tarmac has a 1.43. You can find the stack and reach figures by looking at the geometric figures that are included with the specs of the bike. I’m moving on from the Domane and thinking Endurace, Roubaix, or Aethos.
@@johnvandermause9218 Thanks for the info - I'm slowly steering away from the Domane atm. The price is offputting and another review mentioned the bolt through decouplers leads to a creek and needs to be disassembled, regreased and reassembled. I was aiming for the SLR 7 from a reputable bike shop at 41% discount, but that price also has me questioning the value and the Canyon SLX (with bike theft insurance and maintenance) still comes out cheaper. I love to hear which bike you choose in the end.
Very good video, thanks! From the perspective of this as a more racy/aero endurance bike, what is the biggest difference between this and the BMC Roadmachine which seem to also have those characteristics as per your previous video? In what scenario would you prefer one over the other?
Great question! I found myself asking the same, and rode the two bikes back to back quite a bit to determine the same thing.
I found the Canyon to be more agile and snappy than the BMC. I could whip the Canyon around corners and bring it up to speed a little quicker than the BMC. The BMC I found to be a bit more stable and predictable and a tad slower in it's handling. It was still a very snappy bike, in the sense that it responds quick to input, but the Canyon had a little more of that.
That said, I definitely found the BMC to be more comfortable for sure, and even though I felt the Canyon was more responsive, the difference between the two wasn't huge. The BMC seemed to smooth the road out more, and I would undoubtedly prefer the BMC for longer rides especially.
I had a buddy of mine try both bikes as well, and their conclusion was the same. Both of us walked away definitely preferring the BMC over the Canyon due to it's comfort, but both are amazing bikes, and I think it all is down to personal preference.
Thanks for watching!
@@hikerbikeromar Thank you for the response! Have you had the opportunity to test the new 2024 version of the Roadmachine as well? Based on the marketing my guess is that it is even more comfort focused than the 2023 version - so i wonder if the snappy feeling you describe has been compromised?
@@agy0704 Oh man, that's a great question! I've been wondering the same thing for a while. I did actually get the chance to try the new 2024 BMC with Ultegra di2 the other day, but it was just in a parking lot of a bike shop. I didn't get to really put it through its paces, but from what I could tell, it didn't feel any less snappy than the 2023 version. Like you said, on paper, it seems like it is literally the perfect bike, geometry wise and handling wise. I think it has the potential to even become my new favorite, but I'm really just speculating. If you get the chance to try it more than I did, let me know!
Hey buddy! Good to hear from u!!!!! Beautiful bike. Im afraid i would break it. LOVING THE CHECKPOINT!!!! Trek has some explaining to do on their prices, but they do fit like a glove. Hard to explain. Its like i get into the bike instead of getting onto the bike? Anyway, see you on the next one 😊
Hey man! Nice to hear from you. And good to know about the checkpoint! I’m in the market for a gravel bike. Now your comment has me wanting to try the checkpoint for sure :)
@@hikerbikeromar my parameters for any gravel bike includes a T47. It just works. My press fit giant revolt struggles with mechanical shifting. The other 3 with T47 do not?
@universe-juice totally hear you, big fan of T47 as well.
Frist comment, keep up the good work. Love your content.
Thank you very much!
They need to get more bikes for you, but they probably don't want to...😂. Great review!!!
haha thank you!
