    Whenever I watch “Songs of Praise” on the BBC here in the UK, I can’t help but think how wonderful it must be to attend a church where worship consists mostly of traditional hymns! Sad to say, the churches where you are most likely to experience such services are far fewer in number than they once were, and not only that, those same churches (typically Methodist / CofE) have introduced practices and teachings that (dare I say it) are very controversial to say the least!

    I don't understand the hate on Prager for this. He's respectfully distinguishing the ascetic principles of christianity from the very pragmatic views in Judaism that regard the day to day life of a couple. Of course there's no place for porn in the christian (ascetic) views, which, btw, are institutionalized in the monastic life. But the life of a couple involves very different things and struggles. His objective there is to find the way to live reasonably well with another person without hurting him/her. What he's saying is that porn in that very specific context can prevent adultery and satisfy urges that would otherwise cause other problems in a couple. He's not making a moral statement about the act of watching a record of two people payed to have sex together, and honestly i get his point

    • @TheBibleisArt
      @TheBibleisArt 11 дней назад

      Of course he’s making a moral point. If you allow an act that implies that it’s morally permissible.

    • @giuliocleme1693
      @giuliocleme1693 11 дней назад

      @@TheBibleisArt I agree that watching porn is something very low and morally bad, even though not as despicable as creating it and exploiting all the people involved. In the life of a couple there are many struggles. Let’s set aside all the others for a moment and focus only on those that come from the physical realities and needs of our bodies (and organs of reproductions). Wouldn’t you also agree with Prager that, in a situation where physical urges are constant and cannot be satisfied with one’s partner, it’s less harmful to turn to something like a video or fantasy rather than engaging in something outside the relationship, like infidelity, with all its consequences? It’s a lesser evil between something that is morally bad and something that is not only morally bad but also brings real-life harm. I don’t see this as moral permission (''watch all the adult content you want, it's not bad''), but rather as recognizing the human frailty in those circumstances and dealing with it in a way that minimizes harm. I don't come from Prager's background and I find myself more aligned with yours, the ascetic ideal remains untouched by this, but it's not achievable for everyone every time. In such cases, harm reduction seems to be the practical option, and more compassionate. Sorry for the papyrus scroll long answers

    Did you ever consider multiple authors? Some Bible scholars do. Your explanation is painful and makes little sense.

    • @TheBibleisArt
      @TheBibleisArt 13 дней назад

      @@stevesherman1669 of course, that’s standard fare in critical scholarship. However, the multiple authors is painful and makes little sense. It is a conjecture based on no hard evidence. We don’t have any indication of that in the text, no manuscript editorial indication, and no ancient attestation. The problem with using “multiple authors” as an explanatory tool is that whenever you encounter something you think is off or unexpected, you slap another author/redactor on. The problem with that is that one of the main tools of the literary craft is the skillful deployment of surprise, the unexpected. Robert Alter in his “Art of Biblical Narrative” gives a great practical example of the problem with this with an analysis of Genesis 37-38. In sum, the critical scholar sees the jump between Joseph to Judah as a sign of a poor editor. When you look with literary eyes you can see the mountain of parallel where each story is a sexual test of each brother. The presupposition you bring to the text pushes you into the interpretation.

      @TheBibleisArt . There is nothing wrong with singing in church as a gathering of celebration and prase which is an ovation to what God through His Son has done for us, and the accomplishment of redemption through His death and ressurection. However, worship is a total different life's expression. Does one pay homage, expression of worth, and submission to the lordship of a king or queen by vocal artistic control or orchestrated expressions? Absolutely not.

It gave Jesus. Who god knew would go through hardships at the hand of men and Satan. Something to hold onto during tough times. Jesus understood there’s life after death. And he believed in god. I imagine while Jesus was suffering and dying he had confidence that wasn’t the true end.

The Holy Spirit possibly confirming this to them and they come after the guy and grab him and he flees leaving his garment in their hands. Jesus's body being wrapped in linen after his crucifixion.

      @@TheBibleisArt Meaning comes from your own _interpretation_ of facts. It's not inherent in the universe. Language is a big factor in forming interpretations of what happens around you. You can partly get rid of this factor by studying how nature work, aka do science. You seem to understand language very well, but from the perspective from within it, you use it very well and know how people can be influenced by it. But it would be beneficial if you try the outsider's view on language. You might see that, in many ways, what you say has little to do with how the universe works.

    • @TheBibleisArt
      @TheBibleisArt Месяц назад

      @@bullhaddha So what you are arguing is one theory of meaning, namely a subjectivist view of meaning. That is, that meaning is a feature of subjects, ie people and not a feature of objects. Now you have asserted it but haven’t offered any arguments/evidence in support of it. My video assumes an objectivist account of meaning. This is the common sense meaning when people ask about the meaning of life. Just like if you give your girlfriend a rose the objective meaning of that rose is to communicate your love so I believe there is objective meaning in the universe given by its Creator. Now this of course is related to features of creation, but it’s more than that because it includes intention, purpose.

    Pretty interesting and fair treatment. I first heard the whole "tension and release" point from a IFB (and KJVO) leader who's now arguing music must follow a "perfect cadence" (which resolves back to the first chord), or it's too "feely", and thus an offense to God. (It's like their old arguments against beats and rhythm weren't enough any more. They're also saying rhythms should be like marching, which many of the old hymns are like, the way they play them, Especially with the perfect cadence, which seems very limiting). But it's true that CCM often becomes shallow, and I was never able to quite put my finger on it. (I also thofht that long pause in "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God' ws how the song was written. It sounds a bit more like an ancient chant that way).

    Your channel is number 1 out of every channel I am subscribed to, and I've used some of what I've learned from you in my sermons where I preach. While I would have agreed with you regarding the content of this video before, even though I find in it much conjecture (unlike any of your other videos), I find it necessary to voice why I am not at all in agreement with this video. I will start broadly, then will narrow into why it all ties into why you are incorrect about "space". You yourself are "smuggling in as a scientific fact" (from 43 seconds in) things that are not proven and have no basis in real science. If you start with, as most others do, 'Modern science tells us...', you start with the wrong premise and will undoubtedly end with some wrong conclusions. Modern science, falsely so called, says the earth is spinning at 1000 mph, and besides that, they tell us we're orbiting the sun at 66,600 mph. Question. Can you feel it? How much faith does it take to believe? They also tell us the earth tilts on its axis, off the horizontal, at 66.6 degrees. They also say the curvature that the earth should have because of its spherical shape is .666 feet per mile squared. This means that over 10 miles, we should notice a 66 foot drop in curvature. (And yet, this has never been demonstrated or proved. Over no body of water have we seen this to be true.) 1 Chronicles 16:30 Is the earth spinning 1000 mph? Is it circling the sun? Psalm 104:5 If I affirm that this means what it says, and says what it means, most people, because they have been programmed and brainwashed to repeat whatever the current curriculum that is being foisted in young children's minds in public schools, run by evolution believing, Bible hating, free mason /Jesuit influenced people, will experience what is called cognitive dissonance. Genesis 1:14-16 The moon, along with the sun, are luminaries. Do you believe the Bible, or do you believe NASA, which says the Bible is not true, that the moon is rock, and reflects light from the sun. These both cannot be true at the same time. Romans 3:4 - Let God be true, but every man a liar. Nowhere in the Bible does it say that the moon is a rock, and the earth is a ball in the infinite darkness of space. When I first started digging into all this, it seemed more than strange that many commentators agree that many verses in the Bible were written as though the authors were people who held to a flat-earth cosmology. Job 38:13-14; Psalm 19:4-6; Isaiah 40:22; Daniel 4:10-11; Genesis 1; etc. Many commentators say that these biblical writers were geocentrists. It is amazing that so many do not know that Israelites and 1st century Christians, as well as Jewish historian Josephus, were geocentrists. Even Martin Luther and John Calvin were geocentrists and opposed heliocentrism after Copernicus started affirming it. This is because the Bible plainly refutes modern science, falsely so called, and promotes a flat, stationary earth, with the sun and moon making a circuit above us. Are these scriptures simply man’s idea of things, in their vast ignorance because science hadn’t progressed to what it is today? Did God inspire words which were scientifically inaccurate? Or are these verses inspired by the Holy Spirit to reflect what God would have us to understand as reality? Joshua prayed to God that the sun and moon would stop, not the earth. They indeed stopped for almost a full day. If the earth was spinning as modern science says, this makes no sense. Psalm 19:4 - tabernacle for sun... what's a tabernacle? A tent. So, a tent was created for the sun. The sun is within that tent/tabernacle, firmament (Genesis 1). Genesis 1 says there is water above the firmament. Look up the hebrew word here - raqiya. Israelites believed there was something firm, a dome, over our earth. Many scriptures will attest to this. This was their cosmology they held to. Simply google: "Israelite cosmology" and notice the several images you will immediately see. Psalm 148:4 There is still water above the firmament. This refutes the canopy theory that says this firmament dissolved when the flood waters broke. The Bible never mentions space, as you spoke of in your video. The Bible talks about water. Space is a concept that goes against physics, as our atmosphere would have equilibrated into it automatically, if there were indeed no barrier in-between them. What also goes against physics, is the concept of a spinning water ball. When contained and at rest, water doesn't have the ability to bend, bulge or curve. It always seeks to be level. We have been indoctrinated from childhood to believe in this anti-biblical concept, without ever questioning it. We have been taught to interpret scripture through modern science. Antarctica is the container on our flat earth. What most people are not told is that the purported spinning, orbiting, and speeding through space has never been proven. In fact, every scientific experiment that has ever been performed to determine the motion of the earth has proven that the earth is stationary. (research George Airy’s failure, and the Michelson-Morley experiment, among various others). Yet, textbooks ignore the scientific proof that contradicts the myth of a spinning and orbiting globe (obviously, because it goes against their narrative and their ulterior motives and agenda). Christian schools have been hoodwinked into teaching heliocentrism (aka evolution), despite the clear teaching in the Bible that the earth is not a sphere and does not move. Globe (with space around) = big bang = evolution Atheism is the result of the present cosmology. No human civilization for the first 5,500 years of human history believed in this theory of heliocentrism. People will believe a big lie sooner than a little one; and if you repeat it frequently enough people will sooner or later believe it.

    666 The first 6 is the number of man. Identifying the Antichrist to come as a man (Not an alien in case your wondering) The second 6 identifies where the man comes from. The Star of David has 6 sides and represents the Jewish people. The third 6 is this man’s religion will be a Jew and that he follows the Torah referenced as the 6th letter of the Hebrew alphabet meaning completion. That is my opinion. Israel also has 6 letters and I can go on and on. The whole prophecy of the antichrist is for the Jewish people to accept the fake Messiah. They rejected the real Messiah when he walked with them and then he hands them over to the devil for them to worship. They are waiting on a Messiah not like Jesus, but someone who will bring them all back to their land and build the Jewish temple and bring peace and prosperity back and so they can worship God even though they are blinded of who God really is. Before you say Jews were already gathered back to their land. I say yes part of dry bones prophecy is fulfilled however Jews are spread across the world everywhere they are not home. Just look how many Jews in the USA for instance. No they will all go back to their land to worship in the temple. Then the book of Daniel prophecies begin. It’s about to unfold before your eyes.

    Lazarus dies because he was sick. His resurrection eventually brings about the crucifixion. Way too much spiritualising here.

    Excellent study. Reminds me of a passage from the Hagakure: Our bodies are given life from the midst of nothingness. Existing where there is nothing is the meaning of the phrase, "Form is emptiness." That all things are provided for by nothingness is the meaning of the phrase, "Emptiness is form." One should not think that these are two seperate things. - Yamamoto Tsunetomo

    Excellent video. I love the Old hymns. I dont feel much at all with worship songs or praise songs. I'm trying to find a new church and I'm afraid I'm not going to find hymns being sung much and it makes me sad. I love music so much and when songs aren't good and they all sound the same it bothers me.
