What American Primeval gets WRONG about "Mormons"
There's a new mini-series on Netflix that has a lot to say about members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the early Utah period. In this episode, David Snell explores some of the things American Primeval got right about the Latter-day Saints, and what it got very wrong.

Teen brides used to be common in Utah (here's why)
Просмотров 11 тыс.Месяц назад
The Church’s gospel topics essay on plural marriage in early Utah notes that in those days many women married at relatively young ages: “16 or 17 or, infrequently, younger.” Sometimes these teenagers were marrying men 20, 30, 40, or sometimes 50 years older than them. That can be surprising or even upsetting to some people. So, in this video, David provides some stats and looks at the cultural ...

Please consider not editing out all the short pauses at the ends of sentences in your videos, which creates a choppy, jarring effect and makes the narration basically unwatchable. There's a reason why we pause at the ends of sentences, and it's not only the need to take a breath; such pauses also allow the listener a moment to absorb what has just been said.
Will we still have the Masonic symbols in the SLC temple following the remodel?
Chat GPT AI says its own view and its own entity. When you type. Was brigham young evil you get its own results, and if you type about the fort they talk about mormon again, and to this day they have you paying to be in a church? To praise god? While these "leaders" sit on multi millions
So God was really specific concerning the levitical priesthood. Mostly, you HAD to be from the tribe of Levi. What makes the LDS church think it’s only to let anyone “play the Levite” for baptisms? Such a pagan practice.
I love this channel! Glad to have found something with substance to listen to in the LDS podcast jungle.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mountain_Meadows_Massacre weirdo.
I would point out that it doesn’t matter. With no consequences there is no free choice because the choices don’t matter. Children who are raised in homes with no consequences have the worst self esteem and behavior because by removing consequences their agency has become meaningless. Hence the whole need for opposition discussion by Nephi.
People think Satan would have created a world. That's not the case. He would have put us all in bodies and trapped us in outer darkness where we could never progress and would remain perfect. He would have assumed this as glory and counted himself as the creator of all things perfect. There would be no Christ and no furtherance of thought. He would take Heavenly Mother as his wife and never love Her. He would have a plan that ended quickly and lived forever in fear of another assuming control over him as though the only thought worth having was the potential of loss. Our bodies would be our eternal prison and his light would be as an eternal fire that burned us as the darkness would continually freeze us and never let us move or progress in any way. Holding every spirit captive and unable to learn or love or seek peace. Including Heavenly Father and Jesus.
Smell the Kool-aid freaks
Saying the Mountain Meadows Massacre was church sanctioned is like saying that Jefferey Dahmer's murders were church sanctioned. Just because a member of the church does something bad, it does not mean that that action is endorsed by the church.
How will you know the truth you was not there 😂 to say what really happen either and you making Brigham Young look like he was saint 😂😂 and down play the series it is very good 🔥🔥
American Primeval is about as accurate as the Wizard of Oz was to the 1930s.
It’s a cult just like Scientology
Why would a prophet of god need a spray tan tho
It's about time the story of the LDS came to light.
It'd be great if it were accurate.
@@essaywitty You could say the same thing from Trump.
Which parts of the show do you think were accurate?
@@jacobmayberry3566 It's an episode in American history that has been sadly overlooked. The LDS always paints themselves as the victims in US history. It's good that this chapter is being talked about. You did bring some balance to the debate, but the LDS has skewed the balance for so long that it's time to tip the scales the other way. I don't think we really know how devious the Mormon church was and still is, but American Primeval has opened up some paiful memories.
@ The only thing the show got right was that the Mount Meadows Massacre happened. That's about it. Other than that there is no evidence Brigham Young ordered the massacre, the mormons did not massacre an entire US Army regiment, and they did not massacre an entire Tribe of shoshones. Ironically, it was the US army who committed the massacre of shoshones in the Bear River Massacre but the show decided to pin it on the Mormons. Us Mormons depict ourselves as victims in history because we WERE victims. We were driven from our homes multiple times, our women were raped, and we sought for redress at the state and federal level and got no help. You need to do more research if you think we weren't victims. Just because you can cherry pick instances of Mormons doing bad things doesn't mean we weren't victims. The native Americans committed their fair share of atrocities against white americans yet we still see them as victims. I don't see why you can't do the same with us.
Those closer to the time did not believe it was Joseph's words or recorded accurately which is the most likely reason why it was never canonized and isn't taught as doctrine. In 1912 George Albert Smith wrote: “Sometime ago I received an invitation, mailed from the Liahona office, to contribute to a fund for the purpose of mailing copies of King Follet’s[sic] funeral sermon. At the time I was somewhat surprised, because I have thought that the report of that sermon might not be authentic and I have feared that it contained some things that might be contrary to the truth when I knew just what it was, so I did not reply to the letter. Not being very well, I did not feel like taking the matter up, and have learned since that some of the other brethren felt as I did and thought that greater publicity should not be given to that particular sermon.” Mormon apologist Blake Ostler wrote, “The First Presidency demonstrated its opposition to the idea of man’s necessary existence again in 1912 when it removed the King Follett discourse from [B.H.] Roberts’ Documentary History of the Church. Charles B. Penrose, in particular, doubted the authenticity and correctness of the reporting of the sermon." Interesting that this isn't brought up in this video. No one should be teaching King Follet discourse as doctrine as Joseph never had the opportunity to review or approve what was written and no one in Joseph's family ever taught those doctrines.
I loved the show. It shows just how psycho these people were and still are.
The historical consultant to the show said herself that the show is historical fiction and should not be considered historical. Do some basic research.
Brigham Young should look evil. He was a documented pedophile.
Couldn't agree more
Did he say anything the Provo River Massacre a few years after Brigham Young took over? I missed it.
u wasnt even there how tf u know what happened
Thank you for explaining the truth pertaining this series. I knew it there are many things wrong about the story and definitely a man of God like Brigham Young will never did those horrible things.
Thanks!
Brigham Young was a great guy who knew nothing about the massacre and Joseph Smith really did talk to Jesus in New York and gave him the book , yeah right! Your whole religion is based on lies, when were you interested in the truth? This is America, believe what you will, but don’t pass it off as fact.
yawn
All profits are villains sorry I mean prophet lol
Mormons aint christians
Oh hail naw
Indigenous Americans were displaced by mormons
You lie here. Good job, but you still MINIMIZED the truth. The Mormons may not have worn bags, but after several days of fighting, they scrubbed off their fake paint and convinced the immigrants to lay down their arms. After promising protection under a white flag, the Mormons marched the disarmed immigrants away to safety. No, no, wait. That's your version and the Church's first draft. Instead, the cry "Do your duty" was the signal for these local Mormon citizens to butcher 120 Americans by pistol, blade, and rifle butt, including women and children. Shame on you for excluding this!!!
Nobody cares about Mormons they are a cult
You claim nobody cares yet here you are

American Primeval is a work of Fiction made for entertainment and profit. The series does not profess to be a Factual Historical Documentary. Those who take it as such, are Ignorant of for-profit moving making.

Identity politics is a team sport. It cannot be played any other way. Whenever one group playing targets a group who chooses not to play, the unvarnished truth about their own team is then fair game and by the same rules used in the initial assault. Mark L. Smith's team began when one brother tried to kill another by throwing him into a pit of poisonous serpents over dreams and a coat. Who then seeing inconvenient witnesses (Ishmaelites, Arabs descended from Abraham) turned them into convenient paying (20 pieces of silver) accomplices who would instead sell the brother into slavery. Oh the stories to be told on their account! Levan? Liberty? That not even treading dangerous ground nor straying into make-believe!
Funny how Netflix isn't interested in telling stories like Fanny Kelly's autobiography "Narrative of My Captivity Among the Sioux Indians." (available as a free PDF on Google Books) Mind you they were considered some of the best and friendliest!
Joseph Smith is a proven false prophet. What prophet uses magic to dig for treasures and was arrested for perpetrating this fraud on people. What prophet gets his predictions wrong. What prophet “seals” himself to between 30-40 women, that we know of, some as young as 14, some sister combos and mother daughter pairs. Wake up and do some research. Do you think this liar that started the Mormon religion is able to figure out what billions of Christian’s and 2000 years of research somehow missed? Mormons have sadly been lied to by their church and leaders.
Just another white mans greed to steal land by using religion. Don’t feel sorry for them but fully support the Indians to fight for their lands.
The reality of the Primeval show is for profit. If they showed things as they really were in wouldn't sell.
“The lady doth protest too much, me thinks.” - William Shakespeare Condensing 8-10 years of history through a fictional lens into an eight episode, single winter isn’t meant as a documentary. Your apologist reaction and need to correct the story while rushing past the truth and brutality is why the Jeffs and Kingstons still run that god forsaken, child abusing state.
His desire to correct clear inaccuracies in a Netflix documentary is the reason why Jeffs abused kids? Run me through the logic there because I'm not following.
The temple oath ln the covenant included motions of slicing one's own throat and gut. Where is the symbol of God and love in that?
It is not "designed to entertain"- it is designed to deceive an ignorant populace into being hostile towards the Church. They could've invented some fictional religious group with fictional names. Stop giving haters the benefit of the doubt.
