Awesome video! The Indian Replacement Program would be good to hear about. My mom was directly invovled in that. She is Navajo, but came to Ogden every school year. It pretty much saved her from poverty on the reservation. Then her foster family got her into BYU, and she met my dad there, and then I came along later.
I'm serving on a reservation in the Sioux nation. The work here is amazing and promises are being fulfilled! I agree with the statement that both sides committed wrongdoings against each other. I think that is a sad truth to the natural man, especially in war. I think the greatest thing that can be done is what happens NOW! Rebuilding and raising up people by being true Christians in everything we do! Thanks for all the work you do! its very entertaining and helps with the hard questions Gratitude from Lakota nation! He first said Sioux probably just because that's what most non-Natives would most readily understand, but then he ended with Lakota Nation. So I dont think its right jump to such harsh conclusions about a person when you know nothing about him or what he's done. @DoubleUglyT1W
@@Suopt312 I'm unfamiliar with Eastern Orthodoxy but I'm guessing the fact the Church has living prophets, and other fairly exclusive bits, that there would be a conflict with some parts of Eastern Orthodoxy.
The LDS novel, "Charlie's Monument," is based loosely on my great-great-grandfather, Hyrum Yorgason, who built monuments of rock throughout SanPete valley. These monuments served a double purpose, as pyres on which he would light fires to warn the townspeople below of approaching Native Americans during the Black Hawk War. Putting this video together helped me appreciate that role and its gravity a little bit more. If my vote counts, I'd love to do a Black Hawk War video! ;)
I would like to learn more about the Indian Placement program. What was its mission? How many Native American students participated? What were the demographics of the students, and of the host families? How were the students and host families selected? Did the tribes have any control over the program or were the Native American families operating independently of the tribes? How many students graduated High School, or obtained training and education that led to employment? How did that compare to those who did not participate? What metrics did the program set? How did the program do against the metrics? Was there any other program like it in the USA or Canada? Why was the program discontinued? What were the strengths and weakness of the program? I would appreciate feedback from Native Americans who participated as students. Were they glad that they participated in the program? Did the program administrators survey the participants? If so, what feedback did they get?
Great video! I love watching these videos so much! I recently heard an interesting view on the Book of Mormon being influenced by a man called Athanasius Kircher, I think a video on that could be an interesting topic to cover!
Great nuanced take. However, Brigham Young’s policy of feeding the Native Americans only happened after the Battle at Fort Utah and the massacre at Battle Creek, at which point the policy was “peace or extermination.” Then they realized that fighting was too costly. So maybe more of a pragmatic decision than a progressive Christian policy. Also I’d love a Black Hawk War video. I’m slowly working through Utah-period Mormon history!
Great Video! I would love to see a Video about the Walker/Wakara and Black Hawk War. I've lived in Utah all my life and these events aren't really talked about unless you REALLY go digging.
Brigham Young sent Parly P. I am so sorry for the native Americans who live in North America like Utah, etc I consider them as my brothers hope one day they can be released from all the bondages
Some of my great grandparents settled Ephraim and Cedar City and worked with Native Americans almost on a daily basis. Yes, some Saints were harsh to Natives and some Natives were harsh to Saints, there were good and bad people, as there always is. Overall, the Natives faired pretty good with the Saints, compared to other "white" settlers.
Definitely an interesting topic, many family history stories about conflict between the settlers and the natives. One time a native was threatening a great+ grandmother of mine in her home who was pregnant, when the husband returned and got the native out of the house the native vouged to kill him. Following that whenever he would leave the house he would have a posse of men and eventually they found the native laying in ambush ready to attack, they promptly dispatched the threat. Would love to see videos covering topics of the Blackhawk war, etc!

Some histories says the Wakara War started with James Ivie and his involvement with a wife-beating Indian during a trade of fish for flour. Utah County and family history indicate that prior to that, three Indians tried to force their way into my ggg-grandmother's home--Rhoda B. Young, but she refused them entry. The Indian in the back had his rifle in hand, butt on the ground, and pulled the hammer with a toe, either trying to kill or frighten her. He ended up killing one of his mates. After the Ivie incident, the war was on. Most of my ancestors were involved in the Indian wars in San Pete County or Utah County.
My ancestors both got along and warred with Indians. One chief was killed, his head cut off, and displayed in the store window in Moroni. Do one on Sanpete County.
There's the new theory going around for the origin of the Book of Mormon that connects it's origin to Athanasius Kircher. I would like a video to explain it and if is has anything that can damage the chuch.
No unhallowed hand shall prevail against it. None have succeeded yet, just slowed it down a little, and many unhallowed hands have been trying since the beginning.
"As per the church's website Latter Day Saints viewed Indians as a chosen people, fellow Israelites who were descendants of Book of Mormon peoples and thus heirs to God's promises." In Joseph Smith Journal 1835, he said an angelic messenger revealed to him who the Indians were: "When I was about 17 years old I saw another vision of angels...he said unto me I am a messenger sent from God, be faithful and keep his commandments in all things, he told me of a sacred record which was written on plates of gold, I saw in the vision the place where they were deposited, he said the indians, were the literal descendants of Abraham..." Another account from Oliver Cowdery letter to W. W. Phelps, 1834: “He (a messenger sent by commandment of the Lord, to deliver a special message) then proceeded and gave a general account of the promises made to the fathers, and also gave a history of the aborigines of this country, and said they were literal descendants of Abraham. He represented them as once being an enlightened and intelligent people, possessing a correct knowledge of the gospel, and the plan of restoration and redemption.”
So this issue has come up between myself and my wife. I despise presentism (judging people in the past based on our current/modern viewpoints/standards), and knowing that people are people regardless of their belief systems, I understand fallability and imperfection. Look at the original 12 Apostles for example. So when I see this type of thing occur, I am more forgiving. However, my wife feels that the "true church" and "prophet" should represent the best of humanity no matter what. In her mind it's not an excuse. I guess I have a difficult time helping someone like that see my viewpoint. Any insight?
I'm doing some extensive research into the Indian Child Welfare Act. It never ceases to amaze me how programs like 'The Indian Replacement' program are viewed in a positive light as if it was a good thing. Imagine the 'Mormon Replacement Program,' where you children are kidnapped and forcibly converted to Islam or some similar scenario. The ignorance of confirmation bias never ceases to amaze me.
Why don’t you have time to cover these topics? You can make longer videos. RUclips isn’t going to stop you and you will probably get more views because the algorithm rewards longer watch time.
