Hi, new subscriber here! I like to use oil pastels for master studies too. They kind of mimic the texture and blendability of oil paints. I haven't done one in quite a while.... These look lovely! And very ambitious.

Your monthly art challenges always inspire me to pick up some different supplies. I played with some inks last night, in fact. And I have plans to do some master studies with the oil pastels as well. I just need to pull myself away from the watercolours for a bit. Thanks for sharing! And good luck getting through this month, my friend.

Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and experience is such a delightful way. I certainly had to subscribe and like. I am a retired gal who loves hiking (solo) so weight is more of a concern now then before and I am also brand new to drawing with graphite, coloured pencils, and water colour. I certainly made a ton of notes of which I will begin to incorporate into my own travel art kits for the car, overnight hikes, and day hikes. Well done.❤

Maybe I missed it... but... why no acrylic markers? I mean, they contain acrylic ink! Daler Rowney even include an empty marker pen with their 6 FW acrylic ink sets! There are other brands, and in theory, you can refill liquitex markers and even most poscas (which unscrew the wrong way! - may need pliers) Have fun!

That sounds like such a fun challenge! I need ideas like that (with the supplies I have) for crazy-work times when I just do not have the time/energy to devote to art. I tend to watch others do art during those times, rather than digging out things and trying to figure out what to create. I love those types of abstract colour pages.

I love these challenges you set for yourself.The last time I played with acrylic ink, I spilled over half a bottle of Prussian Blue and it was everywhere.

I find the stickyness of honey based watercolours to go away with water and its not really been a problem But now paints that wont rewet very well is a problem that annoysvthe hell out of me some are like rock Butveveryone is different

These are terrific and I’m so impressed that you put yourself out there and did an urban sketching group which is some thing I haven’t gotten brave enough to do. I think what I like most is how your sketches evolved as you kinda get more comfortable with the subject. I really appreciate what you use. I’m getting ready to go on a trip and I have packed so much stuff I need to go and reevaluate what I’m taking.

I got a secondhand “zuca” wheeling bag from FB marketplace. It holds heaps of art gear up to a4 size and it’s a seat. I love taking it out on art trips now.

Wow, you got so much done!! Beautiful paintings!! When you were packing all of those sketchbooks, I thought “she’ll never use that many”, but you did!! Glad you had a great time and plan to go back 😊. It looks like you were in a lovely spot with so many options for subjects to paint.

You had such a productive day, congratulations! I liked the diptych soread between the two sketchbooks. It looks very fresh and spontaneous. Drawing and painting outside is hard. You now jnow what you like and what you didn't use. As for seating, check out the Walkstool, made in 🇸🇪. They are light but stable, comfortable and the legs are collapsible. It fits well in a backpack. I ❤ mine and take it to all my sketch walks and hikes. Your green tiny container with the inktense blocks caught my eye. It is so cute! I look forward to your upcoming videos

Hope you had a good time. I meet up with USK groups whenever I travel, and found the filks to be very welcoming and friendly. I dont usually know anyone there...but sketching and discussing sketches and art suppkies at the end of the session is a good way to break the ice. Good set of materials...but my guess is that you overpacked. Time flies when you go urban sketching, so less is more for a session on the go.

I also liked your sketch that you did across the two smaller sketchbooks, I think what I liked was the different values, made it more vibrant. I am glad the day was successful! And I really enjoyed seeing what you did and what supplies you used.

If I can only take one medium, I take a watercolour palette with a waterbrush and a waterproof pen. But it’s fun to mix and match on the spot if you can carry more. You might like Helen Cryer’s “splodge and scribble” method for plein air.

I really love your landscapes! How are you using wet media in that sketchbook? It’s a moleskin, right? Do you prep the paper with watercolor ground?

But you're going to use all these materials/sketchbooks? I definitely will get stuck and overwheelmed if I would carry this huge pack of materials with me. 😢 I think that too much is not necessary to have fun or draw outside but I hope you get awesome!

I think I’d pick either the inktense or neocolor ii if you need to reduce load. I’d leave the water soluble markers and pencils behind, and pick just 2 graphite pencils, 2 line art pens and take the big blue Molotov. I like to take a sketchbook and some loose papers on a clip board rather than 4 sketchbooks. Cool pencil roll. It’s nice to see “me-made” art tools. Sometimes I feel like everyone on RUclips has a Sendak roll. Good luck. It’s good to find a group of like minded people to connect with. Hope you have fun.

I snap all my supplies to make them lighter to pack, I multi day hike weight is an issue, have a 10 tin of neocolor 2s that has a quarter of my 40 set in. Better to use them in bits than leave them at home pristine.

Hope everything went well Evie , the amount of Art materials you’ve packed ready is really good for 5 hours , don’t worry xx . I’ve got 2 sets of the caran d’ache museum aquarelle watercolour pencils , marine & landscape and I really love them , I’ve been wanting them for almost 2 years and I finally have some of them , both sets were bargains as well . Yeah.... ! I just went away fo two weeks and brought one 12 x 12 art creations sketch book and a set of micron pens. I stopped on Day 2 and bought a ton of stuff in a French art supply shop but decided not to open the package once it was packed up!!!! I spent the two weeks on the 12 x 12 with the pens. Illustrated the whole trip. Very funny. It was a test. Usually I take 2 paper blocks, and 3 art supplies... for a "normal" journal. Have fun and curious what you will do with what.

I recently found out that the Molotow markers are refillable!
