Thanks Kilby! I believe that these are VERY new which is why you may not have seen them elsewhere yet. And the company mentioned a shopping event coming up this week where there *may* be a discount so thought it would be good to get this one up today rather than Friday, in case anyone actually wanted to get their hands on some. 😎 But, how gorgeous were the swatches? I have plans when back, and the *big project* is completed! 😍
@@eviedivadoodles oh the time you will have to smooch colour around when the project is finished! I ordered more toys yesterday, including the Schmincke retro palette with the 8 pans and yellow oxide acrylic ink. Things were on sale at a different online shop. Problem is that it is in British Colombia, so the complete opposite side of the country. It will take longer to get here than if I’d ordered from Jackson’s.
@@KilbyDelaney-jt1kw Oh, I have been eyeing up that retro set for a while! Can't wait to hear your thoughts on it! 😎 Can't beat Jackson's for speedy shipping! 😍
Haha I love watching you play with your art supplies and definitely take notes on all your spontaneous reactions and comments. Thank you so much for sharing!
These totally look like oil bars. If they had a skin on them would have said they were. Big chonky pastels are cool too. They would be so freeing too. What an exciting option, thanks for sharing and showing how they are.
@@eviedivadoodlesif they’re oil paint bars, the airtight containers would have prevented them from forming a skin, especially if they were sealed in a no-oxygen atmosphere. Wikipedia has good quick explanations for ‘oil bar’ ‘oil pastel’, ‘oil paint’, and ‘drying oil’. Essentially, drying oils are natural seed oils and harden on exposure to air. They are used in oil paint. Oil pastels never dry properly, because they’re made with synthetic mineral oils. Thus the exposed surface of an ‘oil bar’ forms a skin. So if you leave your sample sheets somewhere open to the air, and check them weekly, then if they’re made with a drying oil they’ll first go tacky and then completely hard. I’ll be interested to hear if keeping them in those plastic containers will make a difference to how fast they skin over.
You look to be having so much fun! Good on you Evie. I'm never sure if I'm an oily pastely girlie, or not. We were talking about the Pith sketchbooks the other day. I find the nc2's to work fine, unless you wet your page and apply alot of colour on top, it tends to show through and almost weaken the paper. But if you just apply them, then paint the water on, it seems fine to me. They've definitely become a fave sketchbook of mine. x Nell.
Oh, it was great fun Nell! 🤣 And I used to be very anti pastels - the feel of them... which still affects me as can be seen in the video... but it's the colours that swayed me. So much gorgeousness! 😍 Thank you for the Pith update. I have in my Jackson's basket but am also going to be in London next weekend to see my bestie, so I may just pick one up from an art shop instead... good to know the best way to use the NC2s - thanks! xxx
Evie, absolutely agree, total gorgeousness! Pith are 10% off at Jackson's at the mo. The new sizes, Lumia and Cara Cara sound like good sizes. Unfortunately they don't stock them yet in our aus store, oh dear, looks like another A4 size for me 😂 Have you ever tried the Leuchtturm 1917 sketchbooks? I've ordered one to try, but I'll be surprised if I prefer it to my Piths. (Yes I have 5 now) Enjoy your time with your bestie! x Nell.
Ooooh... I think I might *maybe* get to a Cass Art store and pick up a limited edition version Pith... 🤞 Another A4 one sounds like fair game if they don't stock the newer sizes yet... 😆 I've never tried the Leuchtturm - only as a diary several year ago. Would love to hear how your like them when you've tested it out! Xxx
Eve, I love your comparison. I did not know Carandache Neopastels are more pigmented. I love the huge pastels they almost look like oil sticks. Love 💖 Maria
Funny to see you trying out oil pastels - I also recently bought some Sennelier oil pastels! These look massive, though! They are probably great for some large bottom layers as you mentioned. I could also see them being fun on a large canvas/paper for some abstract art. Looking forward to what you will create with them in the future.
@@eviedivadoodles So far I like them a lot, although I'm also considering getting some Mungyos as well because I heard that they are generally opaque. But currently trying to commit myself to using the Sennelier more often before getting more oil pastels. I use up my supplies so slowly anyway that I don't mind using the expensive stuff.
@@eviedivadoodles Yeah, I have that as well. I hate using up the last thing of anything. But I recently learned that art supplies can go bad as well. So it makes more sense to start using stuff up and then replenish my favorite supplies. I will still be super slow at using them up anyway (not a lot of time & too many other hobbies).
Hi Evie I have the 72 oil pastels haiya when I received them from Amazon Australia they were very oily.. it feels like they aren’t good to use in tropical climates.. thank u for sharing these
@@jackielubeck oh fab! I’m going to test them on my canson XL (which I used for the Cezanne attempt) and then I also bought a pad of strathmore paper in august I think, which I’ll try them on too. I reckon something with a bit of ‘tooth’ as these are quite soft, but I’m open to other suggestions. 😍
Hello, you want to look at the pigments in these sticks. I saw an early video with these stating, that they contain a lot of Cadmium (PY35 f.e.), maybe use thin gloves when using these. ruclips.net/video/07pQfvjlQ8M/видео.html
