Artist Katie Moody in her recent videos mentioned that there is such a thing like art supplies auction in UK, online place where you can buy used art supplies
That squirrel brush you have...wow...to die for!!! Today, that would cost easily maybe 150-200 pounds...and if you ever decide to get out a big sheet of watercolour paper, tape it onto some gater board...YOU ARE ALL SET with the right size brushes...also...you can wet that brush and remove most of the water from the belly...it will come to a very sharp point...and will hold a TON of water...it will bend very easy...but always have a sharp point when wet...indispensable!!!...as well as your hake goat hair brushes...for a flat wash...it is all in the amount of water they hold...To buy that water holding capacity in a siberian sable brush...size 16...you pay way more, due to the length of the hairs, and the amount of them.....I would most definitely HOLD ONTO those brushes, for that "rainy day" when painting a WHOLE SHEET...20"X30" SEEMS TO FLOAT YOUR BOAT. I too avoid my acrylics and acryla gouache...mostly because I don't like to work quickly,...worry about how to clean the brushes...and water disposable...is out the door, down the outhouse hole...basically...not as familiar as watersoluable stuff, and more tricky....flatter/plasticy, less texture...though there is all the " add on's for that...but I am going there one day soon...in 2025...Looking forward to maybe going there with you , on your video...thanks again for a great video...Merry Christmas...janis
Here is what I think about supplies that I don’t use on a regular basis. They don’t go bad and will be there waiting for me when I take a whim to use them. I have a few things that I collected all the colours in and organized them in pretty containers but yet they just sit there. However, i will use them someday. Like maybe today, as we are in the midst of our first winter storm, and I’m not going anywhere 😂.
The thing about brushes is, the money is already spent and if you take good care of the brush, it will be good for years to go. With pencils though, they get shorter and finish if you use them much and then you have to buy another one, even though a lot of brands sell singulars (yey!). Paper is a peculiar thing, if you don't use it because it's expensive, it loses its' bonding thing, not sure about the english, but it will not be the same if you keep it in a drawer and don't use it. People! Use them if you bought them, no matter the cost. Happy holidays to everyone 🤩
I totally understand the idea that if I buy certain art supplies, it will make me paint better. I do that and it doesn’t, not for me anyway. 😂😂 The temptation and hope is strong though lol. A set of Silver watercolour brushes from Amazon were pretty expensive, but I have ended up using them the most, so don’t feel quite so bad about the cost. Merry Christmas to you Evie🎄
I have tried acrylics, bought too many, that are rarely used. I gave most of them to my daughter’s dorm manager who is an art major. I prefer watercolors or gouache. I need to accept that 😂
Oh, I love that you got to put them to such good use donating them! I feel encouraged to get mine out and have another go... I think I just need more hours in each day to do all that I'd like to do! 😆
Use the really expensive brush! They are amazing. I have three Raphael natural hair brushes and a DaVinci travel brush. They are glorious to paint with. The mop brushes will come to the most wonderful point.
Luminance pencils how?! 🥺😅 just kidding, but i couldn't live without mine! This video reminds me that I need to make a real declutter on my workspace 😬 i share embarrassment with you my friend regarding the expensive brushes!!! I feel so stupid just by looking at them 🙈❤ my cat loves the big brushes tho 😂
Ha ha ha, that spooked you right? To be fair Teresa, I did find a few out today for a wander uptown, and then used them to draw D reading his book. So they *are* getting some use now... 😆 And if the car loves them, not money wasted! 😉😘❤️
I understand not wanting to use something for fear of messing it up. I have so many fabrics I haven't cut because I don't want to mess up a project.... some of them are cheaper fabrics, but some are quite expensive. Some of my other art supplies sort of fall in to that too..... expensive cotton paper for instance. (LOL I put your brush collection to shame. In my defense it took me a while to decide what I liked.)
Loved the video, gives me inspiration for next year to challenge myself to use some neglected supplies. As far as the expensive brush goes...think about it as the money has already been spent... life is short...use the brush 😊 🖌️
Hello again! I too have lino, cutting tools, rollers, printing ink.... I've been too scared to use! I used to know how to, but it's been a long time .... if you use yours next year, I'll use mine 😂😅 We're a funny lot us humans aren't we? Take care. Merry Christmas and a happy festive season to you Eve x Nell.
Just an idea and 100% can say no but if you want sometime in 2025 and you’re ready to use gelli plates maybe we can zoom together and I can “teach” you the techniques I’ve learned. I use them for more than just patterned paper
Not to be controversial.. but if the animal is no longer with us, it is not wrong to use what is left. A way of honouring their existence. When I'm no longer here, I'd like to think that parts of me that are useful will be put to use for medical research, education etc... 😬 And I have many synthetic brushes, there just happen to be a couple of non-synthetics in my collection too.
I wish there was a specific app for buying and selling used art supplies…that would be so useful!

@@DariaMotorina sounds perfect…will have to go and research that!
Used art supplies stores are a thing now. They buy and sell. There is even one in my city, but I haven't had a chance to visit as I'm on a no-buy.

One of your rewards for completing your big, secret project must be fearlessly using that glorious brush. 💗💗💗You’ve earned it.

ii appreciate this, sans guilt ... using supplies is a scheduling endeavor ... seeing them sometimes helps...
Scheduling is a good take.. I dragged out my Luminance pencils today and have been drawing away, so that's something. 😆
I have tried acrylics, bought too many, that are rarely used. I gave most of them to my daughter’s dorm manager who is an art major. I prefer watercolors or gouache. I need to accept that 😂

Thanks Leann! After all the encouragement here in the comments, I may get it out tomorrow in a quiet moment and try have some fun with it! 😘

This is such a great point. Thank you! I will get it out and play with it, see how it goes. 😘
So good to see you back on RUclips. Thanks for this lovely video
Thanks Jessica! 😘

Happy holidays to you! Thanks for an inspiring year!
Thank you Jaime! And to you too! ❤️
Good video. I'd say £100 is only wasted if you buy a brush and never use it. It's not a waste if you put the brush to use!
That is SUCH a good point, thank you! ❤️

This sounds like a fabulous plan Angela Marie! Thank you! ❤️
You can donate art supplies to one of your viewers perhaps?
That's what I have to friends who are lino printing.
Good idea.. I could do a 'channel celebration' giveaway when I reach a certain number of subscribers or something. 😎
Small remark; squirrel hair brushes uses hair from the dead animal. Cheaper synthetic brushes are a friendlier way to go.

@eviedivadoodles but it's killed, for the fur
