- Another sketchbook tour video for you. I am always happy to share these every day sketchbooks in the hopes that it inspires others to use one too. A sketchbook is not a place for perfectly pristine and perfect art... in my experience anyway. I use my sketchbooks for playing, learning, testing and failing at all things art... Your videos are always inspiring. Not just the art itself but also the feeling of experimentation and lack of fear of making “bad art”. My favorite is when you point to something that you don’t think turned out well, but all I was thinking up to that point was how interesting it is. Another lesson for my brain that art is subjective, we can be our own worst critics sometimes, and theres no bad art if you’re having a good time (ESPECIALLY in a sketchbook).
It’s amusing to me that David grumbles about how you’ve drawn him. I think I’d be tempted to draw him with three eyes or something just to mess with him a bit! I’ve not ventured much into drawing people (yet?), but it’s making me laugh to imagine drawing my husband at my current skill level and him trying to diplomatically ask if that’s really how he looks. 😂

They do fill me with glee😂. I paused on the new mini palette to check out the actual colours--of course it was burnt sienna. I enjoyed the flip through and now I’m looking forward to seeing what new supplies you have. Because that is the second best thing to getting my own new things.

We were in Groningen on the 9th at The Grand Theatre where we gave a presentation. And got completely wet in the rain. Would still like to meet up but until then, I like your work.
Hey Jackie! Sorry to have missed you - I was aware that you’d be in town, but my OH has been dragging me to many of the Euro games this summer, and I didn’t want to commit and then perhaps cancel. Hope the presentation went well?
I really love your landscapes! How are you using wet media in that sketchbook? It’s a moleskin, right? Do you prep the paper with watercolor ground?
Thanks Karyne! It's actually an Art Creations sketchbook from Roral Talent. The paper is an off-white, cream color and as long as it's a small amount of water, works well enough without any prep! Watercolor paint will dry fast on the paper, as it's not cotton, but as I only use these sketchbooks for play, I'm fine with that. 😘
