This video I work on a Christmas present (Chinese Privet) which was gift to me from my boss.
I have let it get wild ensuring good health but I now need to do a complete do over and start from scratch.

This is my cheap forest I put together for a mere £7 in total. That's buying the pot and buying the trees! Today I go in and give it its first trim/styling as its put on all this growth since I put the planting together. I'm so happy I never lost any of the trees, they all survived. If you haven't seen the first video go check it out its well worth it, its in the play list. Enjoy the video ever...

Now is the time to go in and prune the top of the tree while the weather is warm and humid. This is the best time of year to do the work on the Ficus as they are a tropical species and love this temperature. Enjoy the video and thanks for watching. Please leave a like and subs...

    Great update on all your trees and everything is growing and looking well. I have also done very little pruning this year. Was that not Dawn Redwood at the start ? Careful with over fertilising, I’m sure I heard that it can lead to reverse osmosis, where the leaves will struggle to take up water and ultimately kill the tree. Good luck with the move and let’s hope your trees like their new environment 👍🏼

      Thanks for the warning Dave. All the fertilizer I'm using is mid range kph apart from the miracle gro which I use every 2 weeks which is a 20.20.20. everything has been fine so far but I will keep an eye out and adjust if I see anything out of the ordinary. Yes the first was my dawn redwood forest, it's coming on nicely now 😁

  • @ma9icmarv
    @ma9icmarv 3 дня назад

    When you say Fertilizer the crap out of them, how would you go about that at the moment I'm doing once a week liquid fertilizer, I've got year old Chinese elm and want them to thicken but also survive there first winter outside. I have 3 in the ground as I thought they were died and 3 in pots all started from seed

    • @bonsaiexpression
      @bonsaiexpression 3 дня назад

      So I feed daily on liquid seaweed and miracle gro all purpose soluble plant food. As well as chicken manure and all purpose slow release pellets. The manure stinks but damn it's good. Plus I make my own, saving rain water and add cuttings from your trees and grass. Over time it produces a nitrogen rich water/feed for your trees. Again this gets stinky too. In Terms of surviving the winter I would make sure it has some sort of cover, a green house or polyhouse. Like the ones I have in my videos. That will get you through winter no worries. Hope this helps.

    Good video and nice tree Christophe. I have a few like this and they hold a special place in my heart. They seem very forgiving and on the way to a good bonsai, one day. Can I ask, why do you always wear gloves ?

    • @bonsaiexpression
      @bonsaiexpression 7 дней назад

      Thanks Alex, these types of projects mean that bit more to us as we've made them from the ground up. I wear gloves for a couple of reasons, 1. When working with muddy soils.. saves washing my hands continuously while filming, it doesn't dirty all the equipment. 2. When I have cuts or wounds from my job. I work in a restaurant so sometimes I'm in the kitchen and on occasion I've nipped my fingers with the knives. ( Or lost the end of a finger ) 🫣 It doesn't look good on camera having chunks of your fingers missing 😂😂😂

Because of this I don't tend to suffer with pests. Now and then I get aphids on my elms but to be honest it's very rare as I use the sprays every couple of months as a preventative.
