Mugo Pines Initial styling. I Made A Rookie Mistake.

  • The only Pine of any sort in my collection is due a spring prune and an initial styling. While working on the tree I find out it might be more than one tree, which I can only confirm when I do a repot, this made styling choices a little more challenging.
Now pines are not my strong point and after getting into it I realised I made a rookie mistake while pruning the branches.
Enjoy the video and let me know if you think the tree will recover.

I made a rookie mistake with my Mugo as well, and lost the tree. My mistake was doing the root work and the branch pruning in one session. Since you only messed about with the branches, I will guess your tree will recover nicely. Looking forward to the updates. Cheers Christophe.

Oh no. I'm glad you told me that so I don't make the same mistake. I need to learn as much as I can around these beautiful trees. The tree is doing ok so far so I'm hoping it's not harmed. Thanks for the information Steve 😊

I haven’t used a die back stub on pines. They sap into the wound and seal it up

You should be ok cutting back flush if you didn’t want the branch. Maples need a stump to allow for die back

Oh that's nice to know I'm not going to kill my little tree. I'm new to pines, lots of learning to do. ☺️ Thanks for the information David 👍🏼
